I Thought It Was a Common Transmigration

Special 8. Flashback (1)

How did it end up like this? Lise leaned against the cold prison stone wall of the imperial palace and tried to make sense of this still unbelievable situation. She lived this life over and over again as Lise Sinclair and then as Lise Ludwig, but she had never once seen the imperial prison. This was how her life had to be. However, the damp air she felt on her cheeks was too creepy to be a dream, and her forearm where the guards had grabbed her still tingled.

‘What did I miss? Why on earth did this happen?’

The tears that flowed down fell onto the dress. But Lise didn’t even know she was crying. She just racked her brain trying desperately to figure out what was wrong.

‘Yes, no matter how you think about it, it was when that damn Edith appeared.’

At the time, her heart was pounding and she was so excited, but when she looked back, she saw that it was the beginning of all misfortune… Lise absentmindedly began to trace the events from ‘that day’.

* * *

The magnificent melody of the pipe organ spread out as if drawing concentric circles. Although it was simplified, Edith, the daughter of Count Rigelhof, walked slowly through the middle of the hall, a formal and dignified ceremony befitting a ducal wedding.

‘It’s finally started.’

Lise, who was watching her wedding by the Duchess’s side, smiled inwardly at the conversion. The 13th Edith finally entered into Lise’s narrative.

‘How will this Edith go wild and make me happy?’

This was already the thirteenth time she was making others’ souls to possess Edith, but these moments were always filled with a mixture of tension and anticipation. And whenever she felt this thrill, she felt that she was alive.

‘The beginning of this Edith is similar to other Ediths.’

In the 13th episode, Edith also quickly accepted the fact that she had possessed a character in a romance novel and began to move in the opposite direction of the original work to avoid the evil deeds that Edith had committed. At dinner a week ago, she not only accepted Lise as a good girl, but also declared that she would not bring the Rigelhoff’s maid to the Ludwig household.

‘But on average, I think it’s a bit bold. There were some kids who realized Edith’s hidden plans and were stuck in Rigelhoff’s house.’

Lise’s heart pounded as she felt that this game would not end as a dull game. The wedding went off without much fuss. Killian openly revealed his dislike for Edith, and the reception ended quickly.

‘She’s holding up pretty well. As expected, this Edith will be fun.’

She responded well to Killian’s rudeness without being embarrassed, and it was amazing to see Edith doing well in her role as bride, never losing her smile throughout the chilly reception. It was the funniest thing to see such a resolute human being struggle and collapse.

“Lise, the reception is quickly coming to an end, so would you please show Edith to her room?”

“Yes, ma’am.”

Lise approached Edith at the Duchess’s request.

“Miss Edith. Now we will move to the bride’s room. I will guide you.”

“Oh, God, thank you, no, ho ho ho, thank you, Miss Lise.”

Lise went to the bridal room with Edith, who almost threw off her mask for a moment, and after changing her dress, she told a story that would scratch her insides.

“Today… I would like to apologize on behalf of Killian for his rude behavior towards Miss Edith. I hope you don’t hate him too much.”

This scene, where she looks more like a bride than the real bride and asks Killian to be with her, was good for understanding Edith’s personality. Edith, who felt uncomfortable with Lise, frowned or gave short answers normally but this Edith, who was determined to impress Lise, was overly sympathetic.

“I completely understand. Killian was forced into a marriage he didn’t want to get married, and he’s probably displeased. But that doesn’t mean I hate Killian. After all, he is the person who became my husband.”

As expected, it seemed like she was trying to break away from the villainous character.

‘Since you’ve read the original, you probably know that this is the dress that Killian bought while thinking of ‘The Bride’, but you can see that he even praises Lise’s dress.’

Seeing Edith answering with a gentle smile, Lise smiled again.

‘I think I’m going to look at you a lot. There is a high probability that you will be swayed the way you swing.’

She thought she was already going to burst out laughing as she imagined her getting excited or wagging her tail at every word she said. But it seems that such thinking was too early. It was expected that Killian, who had been sent into the bride’s room, came out early, but his answer was surprising.

“It’s not like she had any expectations for tonight either. It was a bit unexpected, though.”

“What do you mean? It was clear earlier…”

“She was already dozing off in the bathtub alone?”

“…yes?”

This was her first time with an Edith like this.

‘13th Edith… It’s quite interesting from the beginning, isn’t it?’

Although Lise was a little surprised by that friendly attitude, she quickly regained her composure. The game was on, and Lise had to use the new edit to create situations where he could stand out the most. And that was what Lise did best.

“What’s wrong, Lise?”

“No, that’s… After listening to Killian’s words, I wondered if Edith was angry at me earlier…”

“What?”

Lise raised her eyebrows and bit his lip as if she was troubled. ‘I really didn’t want to tell you.’ was the most appealing facial expression. Then, when Edith said that she had complimented her on the dress, with a twist, Killian quickly became angry, thinking that Edith was mocking Lise.

‘Okay. It’s just fun, nothing difficult. In the end, this is the game I will win.’

Lise laughed a little as she looked at the back of Killian, who failed in his attempt to kiss her and turned around helplessly. And that night, Lise set the first stage exception condition. It was the same conditions as the last 12 Ediths.

[Level 1 exception conditions have been set. Stage 1 Exception Condition: Follows the method in which the original edit failed.]

It was a friendly voice and familiar guidance.

‘Now, do you really think you can pass step 1, new Edith?’

Lise happily waited for another story in which she would be the main character.

* * *

As expected, Edith tried to score points with Lise and other major characters. This was the case when he carefully selected the Duchess and Lise’s dresses but did not match her own, as was her behavior during tea time with Lise, Cliff, and Killian. Although it was commendable that she did not appear sloppy or servile, there were several Ediths who chose this route.

‘I guess she thought that if she avoided the evil deeds that Edith did in the original and stayed good, she could avoid death.’

Unfortunately, this wasn’t that simple of a game.

‘The flow of the original work’ is the most powerful force that drives this world. Therefore, until Edith met all of her three-level exception conditions, the story was supposed to proceed according to her original story no matter what she did.

In particular, this edit was taking the opposite path, as if someone had decided not to follow the original Edith at all.

‘If I continue like this, I will die without even meeting the stage 1 exception conditions?’

However, Edith was not as gentle as expected. It was on the night of tea time that she realized she wasn’t just quick-witted. That night, when she found Killian looking outside on the moonlit balcony, Lise was relaxed. It was clear that Killian was saddened by his situation of being pushed out by Cliff, and Lise thought that all she could do was comfort him and increase his affection for her.

“Killian? What are you doing there?”

“Ah, Lise…”

“What’s going on?”

Lise asked anxiously, expecting Killian to look at her affectionately. However, the entity occupying his mind was not Lise.

“It’s not worth your concern.”

“If… Is this about Edith?”

She asked, “No way,” but Killian didn’t deny it. Killian, who had said that Edith was annoying and disliked her, was upset when he heard that Edith did not talk about him at all.

‘It’s already such a change! How on earth did you create such probability?’

Lise admired Edith. The most powerful force supporting this world was the ‘flow of the original’, but as long as the original was not damaged, she was able to use probability to create a situation that was advantageous to her. She didn’t know if Edith knew about it or not, but it didn’t seem like it would drag on the original anyway.

‘Good. I need to treat you properly.’

When Lise talked about calling the dressing room, she cleverly branded Edith as an evil woman. Of course, she presented herself as weak-hearted and kind.

“There are many different ways to heal people. I guess she’s someone’s daughter.”

As planned, it seemed like Killian had come to hate Edith again. However, Lise did not know exactly about the changes occurring inside Killian. It was because she underestimated the fact that Edith, whether she liked it or not, had taken root in Killian’s heart.

* * *

“Is this the start of a serious incident?”

The morning she left to help the Duchess with her work, Lise looked in the mirror and muttered to herself. Today was the day Edith got her hands on the ‘fake document’. And from this incident, Edith’s full-fledged ‘evil woman narrative’ begins.

‘What kind of reaction will there be to this Edith?’

Lise went to the Duchess’ office with great anticipation and observed Edith.

“Starting today, all we have to do is sort the documents there by type and write down the items, quantities, and prices we need to purchase in a neatly organized manner.”

When the Duchess casually handed the document in question to Edith, Edith, who was looking through the documents, smiled with pride.

  1. Finally, lizard got to be in the most natural habitat suited for her. 😁

  2. Rose says:

Why is the author controlling Lise so weird? Like I understand she has some complex of being the center of attention, but like damn 😭 does she really have nothing better to do with her time besides messing with Edith like making money, having a hobby, seeing if she wants to fall in love with someone else whose not affected by the “original” storyline. Like if I were the author, I would love to see what I could do and the limitations of this world, see more than just the same faces and get bored, like she did 😐. Like seriously, her obsession is only Edith, like she is the only that she cares about 😭✋ cliff could not compare which serves him right for being so creepy. I’m kinda glad the whole family got what was coming to them, well mostly the author 🤭 because the jail cell looking too good now! I hope in the next chapter we get to see everyone turn their back on Lise, especially Cliff because it will finally show the author that despite the character she created that was so lovable, the minute she possessed her, it became quite ugly in everyone’s eyes, even the obsessed male lead’s 🤭.

    1. Quaade says:

K is an analogy for J. K. Rowling based the fundamental nature of her work, her controlling nature, how she thinks people should be loyal and thankful to her because, that’s why, and her self-destructive obsession where she chased everyone who loved her away.

  3. Mphazi Nambao says:

Thank goodness, some juicy details. No offence but I find the part where they start having kids boring.

  4. Mari says:

Muy yegua la Lise. Que bueno que todo vuelve.

Thank you for your work RJR!

  5. Mimmo says:

Awwwww I hope we get to see Edith and Killian raising their kid in the future!

And this chapter already started in a marvelous way: Lise (K) on prison facing the consequences of her (stupid) actions!!

Seeing the story from Lizard’s perspective will be so fun!! Actually I always wanted to know what that loser was thinking everytime her plans failed kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

Thank you so much for your work RJR!!!!!!!!

    1. Bubbly_BingeReaderRN says:

I wasn’t curious about Lise’s side of story. But now that I’ve read your comment, I got curious also. 🤣

    2. Belle-chan says:

I really didn’t want to see things from Lizard’s distorted perspective. But now that you’ve shown this point of view, it might be interesting.

  6. Yubaba says:

I was waiting for lise ending, i was bored with ryzen dukum:)))))

  7. Zeel says:

So far seeing nothing new. It feels like a series of filler chapters. Not interested at all to see all this through the lense of a complete sociopath. But very satisfied that she’s inside the imperial prison.

  8. Kari says:

C’est intéressant, mais je préfère lire Edith et Killian élever leurs enfants c’est plus intéressant que de suivre Lizard.

  9. Astarria says:

Oh! Did they throw her in jail?! The imperial prison at that! Wonder why she’s there. But you know what…. I’m not surprised, with her real attitude maybe Catherine finally got offended and threw her in there. But I like this backstory about the whole thinking process of Lizs throughout this story

    1. TheCandy says:

Oh, I didn’t even think that Catherine might have thrown her in prison! The last time the imperial family was mentioned with Lise it involved the Crown Prince and the Emperor, so it’d be a nice twist if the Princess was actually the one who got her imprisoned.
