I Don’t Trust My Twin Sister

Lawrence’s eyes staring at Ian showed surprise and relief. Ian’s heart stopped beating as he slowly sat down and looked up at her as if she had been waiting for him. She just thought she was lucky.

“Ha…”

Earlier, the cold raindrops were heavy, but now it was like a cool waterfall that washed away the unpleasant feeling. A pleasant sigh escaped Ian’s lips. By the time his breath had bloomed and disappeared, the arrows that had torn through the air hit the wall of fire again and flared up. He lowered his head slightly, feeling that something had somehow broken. In the dark, steamy forest, visibility was so narrow that people could not be recognized. Because of that, Ihecouldn’t guess how far it was even though he could hear the sound of weapons colliding nearby.

Ian opened and closed his eyes slightly and moved his feet. His red eyes were shining like carnelians, like rubies. It was the eye of a beast that was the color of the blood. He stomped the floor once and ran forward with all his might. At the same time, a tremendous flame soared around, dispelling the steam in an instant. On the long path of fire that embroidered the floor, the darkness lost its power and dispersed in an instant. It was only then that he was able to see with his own eyes the knights and enemies wielding weapons, relying only on their senses in the darkness and steam. Most of the people stopped at the sudden change, but the well-trained knights of the Ajtain family quickly subdued the enemies according to the order of the knight commander. Although the raiders were not very trained or not, they were cut down helplessly. Ian stared at the backs of those who were about to give up the fight and fled, then raised his hand and flicked it lightly. A light explosion was heard along with a ‘click’ sound. Caught up in the flames rising from beneath their feet, the fleeing people screamed and crawled, and soon lost consciousness one by one as the fire was extinguished by the rainwater.

Ian stared at her, then took a quick look around. To some extent, the situation has been sorted out. Those who had been attacking with bows collapsed without being able to inflict any damage on the knights, and those who seemed competent put down their swords and quickly surrendered. After confirming that the man who seemed to be the leader among them was grinding his teeth as if he was very angry, Ian ordered him to be restrained and then turned around. Then, as if they had been waiting for it, the wide open flames quickly faded into smoke, and darkness returned again. However, it was not an ominous darkness like before, but a darkness that signaled that everything was over.

* * *

It was an instant. After Ian appeared, the desperate situation was over in an instant. There were a few injuries, but they were minor and there were no casualties. Rather, more enemies were killed and wounded. Right after the situation was sorted out, Ian’s knights came running. They bowed their heads to Ian with a very apologetic face and came up to me to ask how I was doing and apologize. I shook his hand saying no, but I felt sorry and bitter when I saw Oria Knight Commander insisting that it was her fault until the end.

In no time, the rain clouds had receded and only light drizzle fell. The dead were buried in the ground, and only those captured alive were arrested and identified. Five in total, they looked like knights. The knights brought as escorts, as well as the servants who did not participate in direct combat, were all in a mess. It must have been because he was afraid of the arrows and stuck to the ground.

“What are you thinking about?”

Ian approached me while I sat in the carriage chair. He leaned forward with his elbow resting on the window of the wagon, then slightly bent his back and reached for my head. I only slightly raised my pupils and looked at him. Ian took a small leaf from my head, showed it to me, and tossed it to the floor.

“Just.”

“Just?”

I thought I could hear his clothes slipping, and then his face came closer. His breath came over her. I bit my lip and turned my head away. His voice caught up with me.

“How did you make this mistake, my lady?”

Was he treating me like a child? My lips pouted out.

“I hope it worked out well. No one is really at fault. Besides, it’s not just the loss… Aya!”

I screamed at the sudden pinching of my cheek. What was he doing all of a sudden! I rubbed my tingling cheek and glared at him. Ian erased his mischievous eyes and opened his mouth softly.

“I was worried.”

“That…”

I bit my lip. I had something else to say, but somehow it didn’t come out of my mouth.

Unable to get the words out of my mouth, I turned my head again, sticking out my lips. In terms of reason, it was definitely the word I had to say, and even though it was the first word I had to say, somehow I couldn’t open my mouth, so I just looked at him.

“Ha…”

My body trembled at the sound of a sigh. Like a child waiting to be scolded by his parents after committing a bad deed, his voice flowed out again as he was anxiously watching.

“How is it? Did you get the results you wanted a little bit?”

“…It wasn’t bad. It was a life-and-death risk, but surprisingly, no one sacrificed, and it went well as I thought.”

I smiled lightly and took out a piece of paper from my pocket and handed it to him. It was a letter from Ian with the word ‘life and death’ written on it. He showed a strange knack for receiving letters from my hand and burning them with a fire.

“Ersia didn’t seem to know about this incident. I didn’t tell Ian the exact information nor did I tell Ersia to stop the information leaking out. I just secretly leaked the information that I was going to this place. Actually, I didn’t expect Beralt to act so urgently… Thanks to you, I learned that Ersia isn’t very useful to Beralt either.”

I let out a sigh. I recalled the things I had planned a while ago. On the day that I was notified early that my grandfather would be absent, I decided that it was necessary to find out the extent of the relationship between Ersia and Beralt. It would have been enough to take time to figure it out slowly, but in the conversation we had after attaching Benson to Ercia, I thought I should speed it up a bit. Rumors were spilled. That Lawrence Asjtain would be heading to her resting place in three days to celebrate her parents’ death. In fact she was dubious. I had a vague idea that Beralt might bite the information and take an offensive stance. If he jumped at me, I could use it to counterattack, or he would just pass by quietly. But sure enough, the surprise attack took place and quickly turned into mayhem.

I warned Benson ahead of time to prepare for the worst, and sent Ian a call for help. Ian had to think about not arriving on time, so he mobilized a lot of knights and brought a few artifacts that could be used in case of emergency. Because he really didn’t want to die. It’s fortunate that things went the way I thought, but it was a situation that wouldn’t have been strange if anyone had died. Still, there was only one reason for taking such a gamble: to prepare the foundation to expel Beralt. If Beralt was pointed out as the culprit behind this incident, everyone would send a scolding towards him. If you go that way, everything would be perfect.

First of all, it was a half-successful gamble as the enemies were captured without victims. When I turned my eyes, I saw people who looked tired. I’m a little sorry, but I need their help. I opened my mouth with difficulty.

“Ian, would I have been a bit hasty? It would have been okay if I had taken a slow look at the situation.”

Ian’s sigh fell again. He bit his lip and lowered his head. I pretended to be as shameless as possible, but I knew I was wrong. It was wrong to gamble with people’s lives. I knew that Ian would be angry, but somehow the sound of his sighs brought me to tears.

“People are having a hard time because of me. But I have no intention of apologizing.”

“Lawrence.”

Ian’s eyes were infinitely warm as he gently cut me off and knelt down on his knees to make me cry. He put his hand up and rubbed my cheek again. His warm hands somehow made my heart ache.

“You were thinking of carrying it alone again.”

“…that.”

“I feel like I’m bruising, but I’m not. I’m asking you, Lawrence.”

He caught my gaze, wandering aimlessly like a lost child.

“I’m asking if you’re hurt, that’s all…”

His voice and kindness heal me. Little by little, little by little, the wounds Laurencia suffered from being abandoned by her family. The doll in the broken music box spins round and round even though the song is no longer playing. If someone doesn’t stop or hold it, it will go around the same place until the end of its lifespan, and it will soon be broken. The doll in the music box that was spinning around thinking that someone would take care of it, not knowing that it was broken or broken, that was me. I didn’t take care of myself, so I probably didn’t even know it was broken. When you think about it, it was a very natural story.

Ever since I was young, I lived with the burden of carrying on the family under the pretext of being the next head of household. At a young age, he was bound by his younger brother and family, and had to be confined without having the slightest idea of freedom. At every moment, those who were aiming for themselves and those who wanted to devour the family were overflowing everywhere. It was also common for members of families they believed to be allies to turn their backs on them. It was clear that if I didn’t wake up, I would eventually collapse. In a situation where I was exhausted and had no place to lean on mentally, I was eventually betrayed by Beralt, my fiancé and trust, and my only family, Ersia. It must have collapsed there once. In that situation, I came back to the past, took a moment to rest, and started moving right away before I even looked back at myself. I moved once again because I had to escape a terrible future.

I struggled, ran away, and sought an alternative. Also, I gambled with his life on the answer like this like crazy. He bowed his head. He pressed his lips down gently.

The coming-of-age ceremony, which remained a lifelong regret, passed safely, and the accident of grandfather’s death could be prevented if a little care was taken. The business was also accelerating compared to the past, and the funds had grown sufficiently. There were no rumors that had anything to do with Beralt. There was no direct damage he did to me, and there was no case where Ersia particularly scratched my temper. But I was alone and anxious and in a hurry. I was running amok. I couldn’t stand the situation where I drew the line alone and couldn’t be satisfied. As if I had become a horse driving a wagon without a coachman, I was running recklessly down a dangerous road. I thought no one was riding, but no. A lot of people were riding behind him. Not only the many people who depend on the family, but also this man who is worried about me. It was putting them all at risk. And I was able to stop only when I brought myself to the point where I couldn’t appease myself.

“Are you calming down a bit?”

Contrary to the falling rain, I raised my eyes and looked at Ian. His red eyes were exploding. He was like the cozy fire in a warm fireplace that put me to sleep. This man was like a warm wind that put me to sleep after running forward for more than 10 years. I thought it was a throbbing chest pain.

Unhealed wounds that remain from the past, when they were hurt. The wound throbbed every time I saw Ian, so I thought I shouldn’t get closer to him. When Ersia coveted him, it felt like his chest was stuffy and clogged, but I concluded that it was because I hated the way he tried to take away what was mine.
