The Peaceful Life of a Maid Who Hides Her Power and Enjoys It

<Episode 177>

“What?”

“And torture him to find out his purpose for hiding in the castle. If the lady who was always afraid of such things succeeds in this task today, the lord will be very pleased.”

Are you telling me to torture this person right now?

Thump. Thump. My heart raced. I felt Dian’s body reject it strongly. This was the reason why he fainted for two hours.

“No.”

Until now, I’ve experienced firsthand how fragile Dian’s mind and soul are.

Wouldn’t it be impossible for him to agree to destroy a life with his own hands when he found even making poison to be agonizing?

“I… can’t do it. I still don’t have the confidence to go that far…”

As I took a step back, the man let out a loud sigh.

“Pull yourself together, lady! Is fainting once not enough?”

I held my chest and took a slow breath.

Calm down, Dian. There’s nothing to fear. I’m here. I can protect you…

“Do you intend to lose such a precious opportunity? The Lord has been holding you in very high regard lately. Do you truly think he doesn’t know that you climb the tower every night, and that you greatly admonished lord Locke?”

“…”

“You’re finally showing determination to put crawling trash in their place! Now that you’ve finally come to your senses, you should do something even greater, shouldn’t you? Cut off the heads of those who dare to rebel against Serenier and hang their necks in the front of the castle gates to demoralize the scum. Let the little rats know the fear of Rogue and Serenier!”

As I continued to remain silent, the man gestured with his eyes to the old man standing behind me with a fierce expression.

“Since the lady seems hesitant, you help her.”

“Yes.”

The polite old man bowed his head and slowly pushed me into the iron bars. Then, he firmly grabbed my hand and opened the lid of a glass bottle.

“After you give him this medicine, we will remove one tooth at a time. I am the best expert in this field, so follow my lead, lady.”

“….Let go.”

“This poison is a paralyzing potion. Even a small sip will cause paralysis, so for those who resist, give them a good blow to the head first… Agh!”

The pulsation of the artery felt in my grasp accelerated. I warned the old man, gripping his throat with a strong force.

“I told you to let go. Didn’t you hear me?”

“C-cough!”

Torture? Yeah, there’s nothing I can’t do if I have to.

But what about Dian?

If I willingly tortured this guy, it would be Dian’s turn next. For a lifetime, he might become trapped in Serenier, manufacturing poison and torturing people. I couldn’t allow such a future.

As I swung my arm, the old man’s body was thrown to the ground.

“I’m getting out of here. Whether you tell father about today’s business or not, it’s up to you….”

“Ah, ah…!”

At that moment, a chilling laughter erupted behind me.

“That’s it, miss…!”

A man who inhaled violently was approaching me with ecstasy-soaked eyes.

“Indeed, my eyes didn’t deceive me. That… unwavering and resolute gaze! That look of disdain towards the weak! I did think that your mindset had completely changed since you collapsed, and my judgment was correct. Well, whether you coldly reject those who dare to touch your body without fear is up to you!”

What was up with this pervert?

The perverted bastard, trembling with excitement, closed his eyes and pointed to the fallen servant with a twisted expression on his face.

“I have a plethora of torture techniques to share with you, miss. Now, please take the medicine! From today onwards, you will rise as a new star in Serenye….”

Thud.

The power-laden kick made the perverted bastard’s complexion turn pale.

“A star… is…”

Covering his central area with trembling hands, he weakly collapsed, his brows furrowed.

Haah… you bastards.”

I let out a long sigh, pressing my index finger firmly against my brow.

‘It ended up happening in the end.’

And you can’t take back what’s already been done. Pushing the two trash aside with my foot, I gestured to the cornered servant accused of being a spy.

“Hey, do you happen to know the maid with black hair?”

“….”

I passed by the highly-wary servant and picked up a dagger from the array of torture tools lined up against the wall.

“If you want to live, follow me. Or just die here.”

With that, I swung the dagger, cutting off the perverted bastard’s finger and placing it in my pocket before going up from the basement.

Was this the right choice?

I don’t know.

But the Serenier I witnessed with my own eyes was a group of filth-like people that treated Dian like livestock, whipped him, used his precious companion as a hostage, trampled on his dreams, urged him to indirect murder, and were even forcing him to engage in torture.

If Dian resented the choice I made today, I couldn’t help it.

Aside from that, I didn’t want to leave my lifesaver behind in this disgusting household. That was my final judgment.

Back in the bedroom, I pulled White out from under the bed and released all the locks and ropes that were restraining her.

“White!”

The servant, who was casually following behind, checked the face of the maid assassin and rushed over. The two hugged each other tightly and confirmed their safety.

“Oh my goodness, how did you end up here? Why is your face like that? How did someone whose only redeeming quality is their face end up like this… Did you also get beat up by Dian Serenier? You got caught like me!”

“Seeing you’re talking nonsense, it really is you. Phew, I couldn’t even imagine it. I never thought you would be trapped in a place like this…”

While the two talked, I stuffed my bag and finally cradled Ash’s cage in my arms.

Ash woke up from sleep and tilted his head, saying, “Chirp?”

“Dian Serenier, what’s your purpose?”

A cold, metallic object touched my chin.

The servant, who approached close behind, was threatening me, trying to intimidate me, but I only found it immensely annoying at the moment.

“Hey.”

“Why are you keeping White and me… for what purpose?”

“Don’t fool around. If you don’t want to die.”

Perhaps due to heightened sensitivity, my words didn’t come out as polite. Was it just an illusion that my personality had become twice as dirty since coming here?

“What?”

“Wait! Wait, wait. Don’t touch Dian Serenye. You shouldn’t touch him.”

A bewildered response came back, but fortunately, the quick-witted maid assassin gave the servant a look that said, ‘Does this madman want to die?’ I passed by the two of them and said,

“I have to go up to the tower. If you want to save the monster, you both follow me.”

There was no time for explanations. I dressed thicker than ever and moved towards the tower.

Perhaps due to being in a state of tension, I was able to climb the stairs faster than usual, despite carrying a heavier load.

Huff. Huff.”

Finally, we arrived. While I was catching my breath and clutching my dizzy head, the two spies who had silently followed me rushed towards the iron bars.

Clang!

“Captain! Are you okay, Captain? Are you alive? Huh?”

“Wait. Stop, White!”

The servant, who quickly blocked the maid assassin clinging to the iron bars like a cicada, asked me cautiously.

“Now, reveal your true purpose, Dian Serenier! Why did you bring us here…!”

A punch.

“What is the reason… Ugh!”

“Ack.”

The servant, who flew unimpressively and hit the iron bars, fell to the ground with a thud. I was already out of breath, so why did they keep provoking me? It was hard to understand.

“I told you to stop fooling around. Why do you keep pushing me to become more unpleasant?”

Chirp.”

“Ash says you must focus on taking good care of your friends. Got it?”

The maid assassin nodded with embarrassment.

“Ah, yeah….”

Gosh, my wrist and shoulder were already sore from just usings my fists a few times.

I opened the iron bar door and stood in front of Rue.

He had rare, surprised eyes. His usual long, light breaths were now rising to the ceiling in short intervals. Confirming that Rue was relatively unharmed, I let out a sigh of relief.

‘Haah.’

Indeed, there was no one like Rue when it came to maintaining mental stability. Watching him being imprisoned and tortured, my head grew cold, and all anger and excitement in me faded away like dust.

Rue never gets excited like others, nor does he ask in a pressing tone to understand my intentions. He simply stares at me silently. This insignificant waiting slowly calmed my anxiety.

Yeah, Rue was always Rue, whether it was 150 years ago or later.

“Let’s make a promise, Rue.”

“…How do you know that name?”

“I’ll set you free from this tower.”

Rue widened his eyes.

“But in return, take Dian… Take me out of this castle.”

Dian was young.

Unlike me, who would either die or return to the original world once I save his dying soul – Dian, who was young and weak, needed a guardian. An adult who would hide him, protect him from these filthy savages.

After a long silence, Rue pursed his lips with a suspicious look on his face.

“What can someone like you do?”

“Can you promise me that or not?”

Rue didn’t hesitate to answer the second question .

“Upon the sea I longed for.”

I approached Rue, holding out the finger I had cut off. I raised my hand over the stone embedded behind his neck and squeezed it tightly, like wringing out a cloth.

And then, a drop of blood that had been clinging to the tip of the leather fell.

Kiiiiing.

With a resonance, the magic tool melted away.

After leaving no trace on Rue’s skin, the blue stone seemed to disappear into his flesh. If it wasn’t an illusion, it felt like a strong pulse could be heard.

Flexing his long fingers one by one, Rue clenched his fist and twisted his shoulder. Kwa-jijik. The iron chains that had been hanging on the wall weakly fell off. It was a power that I could never have imagined from someone who was imprisoned and helpless all this time.

His liberated body rose from the ground, swallowing the moonlight that was falling through the window. Rue’s body, bathed in light, was delicate and beautiful. With his eyes closed, he seemed to savor each breath, inhaling and exhaling.

Sigh…

It was a breath that rose from deep within his lungs.

He slowly turned his head slowly like he was an illusion. The muscles on his back, which had been crouching with each grand gesture, stretched out like a gorge that welcomed a giant. Following the lead of his master, every drop of blood and flesh that composed him stretched and yawned without haste.

Was Rue always this big?

As if laughing at my doubts, the golden eyes, filled with vibrant vitality, looked at me.

“…Did you ask me to take you out of this castle?”

A large hand suddenly pulled my chin. It was a gentle touch, contrasting with the rough action, so alien and soft.

Lowering his head to meet my gaze, he whispered with a fierce smile.

“As promised, I’ll keep you by my side until you die, pepper-green eyes.”

THIS IS WHY

THIS IS WHY RUE AND DIAN CECHT WERE FRIENDS

Omg this is making me cry why am I crying over a character that has been dead since the beginning my Dian noooo

Btw, the direct translation of Rue’s nickname for Daisy is light-green eyes but that’s kind of a mouthful and judging by the tone, I went with pepper-green to keep the essence

Hey there, this is the translator, Ami. Hope you're enjoying your reading. You can support me buying me a ko-fi here

  1. vytas0210 says:

    Thank you for the chapter!
Pepper-green does sound smoother. For once, Daisy’s fist-talk came then you expected it.

  2. Lilith says:

It’s literally: In every lifetime I will know you, I will find you, and I will love you.
    Just THEM 😭😭😭

Also, I’m wondering, if Rue was so drawn to Daisy in Queens Island because even if he didn’t remember her face nor her time as Dian Chet (he’s got no memories). It was her pepper green eyes that drew him in yet again. A possibility, because she hadn’t consumed the heart yet, and he said it himself, that he was simply drawn to her.

It’s always been my belief that a translation isn’t all about converting the speech word by word. The intention, tone and context are often times more important than the literal meaning, so if it enhances the story? Have fun with it.

    1. Ami says:

That’s so cute oml I didn’t think of that. Rue was drawn to Daisy from the beginning, it’s both heartbreaking and lovely to think part of it was her eyes. he’d seen those eyes before. they were truly meant to be together aa idk what else to say, the lone girl on Queen Island searching for her brother and the demi-god who just happened to be on that island for another purpose. a fate-like coincidence that altered their lives forever T-T
