Phantom Skeleton Painting

Chapter 58.1 Dream

Would you see someone you don’t know in your dream? Lin Banxia thought for a while and replied: “There might be, right?”

Song Qingluo said: “Then can you remember their name and appearance?”

Lin Banxia was stunned. He actually dreamed quite often, but most of the content in his dreams was related to reality. For example, when he was under great pressure, he would always dream about taking exams. As for what Song Qingluo said about unknown people appearing in dreams, it may have happened before, but their faces could hardly be seen, not to mention remembering their names… So, Lin Banxia shook his head: “I can’t remember.”

Song Qingluo said, “Oh.”

Lin Banxia hesitated and said: “Do you know the person who died last night?”

Song Qingluo said: “I shouldn’t know him.”

This answer was very strange. It was either he knew him, or he didn’t, so what did he mean by saying that he should not know him? The confusion in Lin Banxia’s expression was too obvious. Song Qingluo explained calmly: “I have no real connection with this person. No, to be precise, I don’t know this person at all.”

Lin Banxia: “Huh?”

Song Qingluo said: “But we met in a dream, and I can even call him by his name.”

Lin Banxia was dumbfounded. He felt that Song Qingluo was not the kind of person who joked casually, which meant that what he said was true: “Wait, could it be that even Qin Xu…”

“Yes.” Song Qingluo confirmed Lin Banxia’s doubts, “I have dreamed about him.”

Lin Banxia didn’t know what to say. This thing was too ridiculous. While he was thinking, Song Qingluo said: “You just told me that it was because the student asked for help that you knocked down the door. Right?”

Lin Banxia said: “Yes.”

“I have to tell you something.” Song Qingluo said.

Lin Banxia said: “What?”

“The time of his death was in the afternoon.” Song Qingluo slowly told him an impossible fact, “So it was impossible for you to hear someone calling for help at that time…unless…”

Lin Banxia said dryly: “Unless the dead can talk.”

“Yes.” Song Qingluo said, “Unless the dead can talk.”

This was an extremely absurd conclusion, but this was not the first time Lin Banxia has encountered it.

The day before, he had watched Qin Xu fall to his death, but that night, Qin Xu himself handed the phone to him.

Lin Banxia swallowed and felt that the matter seemed to be beyond the scope of his imagination. No matter how he thought about it, he seemed unable to explain it using scientific principles. When other possibilities were eliminated, there was only one answer left – there was really a ghost.

Song Qingluo’s words interrupted Lin Banxia’s train of thought. He said, “It’s time to go to class. You should go back first.”

Lin Banxia suddenly realized that it was almost two o’clock in the afternoon, and the time he spent with Song Qingluo seemed to pass very quickly. Unknowingly, more than an hour had passed without him noticing.

“Let’s have dinner together tonight.” Song Qingluo said, “I’ll wait for you here.”

Lin Banxia hesitated and said: “But…”

Song Qingluo interrupted him: “Six-thirty, see you there, don’t make me go look for you in the classroom.”

Lin Banxia: “…”

“Go.” Song Qingluo waved his hand.

Lin Banxia turned around and walked away. He was still in a daze when he returned to the classroom. He turned his head and looked out the window. There was a clear sky outside, the same weather as yesterday. The rain in spring should be continuous and gentle, but the heavy rain in the past two days was swift and decisive, sweeping away two lives with lightning speed.

The harsh class bell rang, and Lin Banxia saw the teacher walking to the podium, picking up the textbook and planning to explain the next lesson.

He lowered his head and saw his homework. The picture in front of him suddenly distorted. However, when he focused again, the image from earlier seemed to be just an illusion.

Dinner time was also spent with Song Qingluo. There was not much conversation between the two. Lin Banxia actually felt that he had an inexplicable tacit understanding with this male classmate whom he had only met a few times. After dinner, he came out of the office. When he passed the stairs on the fifth floor, he heard low sobs and whispered curses coming from upstairs.

Lin Banxia remembered that there was a balcony upstairs, which was usually locked. Lin Banxia wondered if something had happened to one of his classmates, so he climbed up the stairs for a while, but when he was halfway there, he realized something was wrong. No, why does this voice become more familiar the more I hear it? It seems to be Li Su’s.

Why is Li Su on the roof?? Lin Banxia slowed down hesitantly, stopped at the corner, and quietly approached. Unexpectedly, he actually saw Li Su.

The person with Li Su was Li Ye, who went home with Li Su yesterday. Li Su was forced into a corner. Li Ye’s tall figure almost covered him, and Lin Banxia could only see his side profile and slightly trembling shoulders. It seemed that Li Ye was bullying Li Su. Li Su was sobbing softly. Lin Banxia was shocked when he saw this scene. Is this the reason why Li Su didn’t like Li Ye? This younger brother actually bullied his brother at school behind his parents’ back?! However, Li SU couldn’t be blamed. After all, Li Ye was so much taller than him. If they really wanted to fight, Li Su would be no match for Li Ye.

Although Lin Banxia thought he was not very good at fighting, fortunately he still had a good brain, so he thought about it, ran downstairs, and shouted at the top of his lungs: “The teacher is coming.”

The two people above heard Lin Banxia’s shouting. Lin Banxia thought Li Su would thank him. Who knew that he didn’t hear Li Su’s thank you? Instead, Li Su roared loudly: “Which bastard is shouting over there?”

Lin Banxia: “…”

Then there was a series of panicked voices. Although Lin Banxia didn’t know what he had done wrong, he could hear the surging anger from Li Su’s suppressed tone, so he quickly turned around and ran away, quickly returning to the classroom, sitting upright in his seat and pretending that nothing happened.

After a while, he saw Li Su returning to the classroom with a gloomy face and cursing. Lin Banxia understood this very well, after all, he had just been beaten.

“Damn.” When Li Su passed by Lin Banxia’s seat, he glanced at Lin Banxia suspiciously and said, “Lin Banxia, where were you just now?”

Lin Banxia said as if nothing had happened: “I’ve been reading in my seat. What’s wrong?”

Li Su said: “I seemed to have heard your voice just now.” He came close to Lin Banxia, trying to see something in Lin Banxia’s eyes, but no matter how he looked, the person in front of him looked innocent. “Did you see anything?”

Lin Banxia said sincerely: “No, what on earth are you talking about?”

Li Su: “Really not?”

Lin Banxia: “No.”

Li Su: “Okay.” He believed it.

Seeing Li Su leaving, Lin Banxia quietly wiped the sweat from his hands on his pants. He thought to himself that Li Su was the same. He was beaten yet he still wanted to save face and was afraid of being seen by others. With Li Ye’s height, there were probably only a few students in the entire school who could beat him. Sigh… It seemed that the students who were dawdling these days were not having a hard time either…

After the evening self-study finished, in order to prevent himself from being harassed by Li Su again, Lin Banxia hurried back to the dormitory, read for a while, and then went to bed.

He lay on the bed, but in his mind, he remembered the questions Song Qingluo asked him during the day and fell asleep in a daze. It was unknown if it was because he thought about it by day and dreamed about it at night, but he really had a strange dream.

The dream was that Lin Banxia was in a strange, empty room. There was only a bed and a cabinet in the room, and besides that, there was nothing else. As he lay on the bed, he heard someone knocking on the door and calling his name. He was forced to get up from the bed and wanted to open the door for the man. When he walked to the living room, he saw the scenery outside the window. Although it was daytime, the sky was covered with clouds, and the whole world was bathed in the shadows created by the clouds. Looking up, it seemed like the end of the world. The person who called his name at the door was still banging the door hard. Lin Banxia saw the outside through the peephole.

It was an unknown person. He kept slapping the door panel and screaming: “Get out of here, get out of here, Lin Banxia, come back quickly.”

Lin Banxia was startled and heard another sound. He turned his head and saw that the clouds in the sky outside were getting thicker and thicker. It was as if the sky was about to be covered with darkness. In front of the window, a person appeared with his back to him. Lin Banxia immediately recognized his back. It was Song Qingluo.

Song Qingluo turned around and glanced at Lin Banxia, stretched out his fingers to make a silent gesture to Lin Banxia, and then fell straight back. Lin Banxia’s eyes were splitting when he saw this scene. He wanted to rush over to stop him, but it was too late. He just watched helplessly as Song Qingluo fell from in front of him…

“No!!!” Lin Banxia screamed in horror. He didn’t know why he was so scared, but it felt like his brain exploded. He almost rolled and crawled to the window. He leaned out, trying to catch Song Qingluo. However, when he leaned out and looked out the window, he discovered that there was a rolling sea of clouds below the window. The sea of clouds was churning like a tidal wave. From the position that Song Qingluo jumped, he saw rows of densely packed buildings underneath the sea of clouds, which looked inexplicably familiar.

“Song Qingluo, Song Qingluo…” Lin Banxia called his name hoarsely.

Despair swept through Lin Banxia. In a daze, he vaguely realized that he was dreaming, but how could he wake up? How could he wake up from this nightmare? At that moment, Lin Banxia actually saw the clouds separating, and Song Qingluo, who should have fallen, reappeared. He stood in the sea of clouds, his figure as light as a soft feather, facing Lin Banxia he waved and called softly: “Banxia, come here.”

Before Lin Banxia could react, he felt someone push him from behind. His vision went dark, and he fell.
