ITETP Chapter 133

* * *

“You’re out of your mind.” Dana harshly shook off Raios’s hand. “Just because you’re known to be fond of women, don’t assume I’m the same.”

Raios furrowed his brows in response. “Me, fond of women?”

“Yes.”

“That’s laughable. As if you’re any different?”

“…”

What nonsense. Annoyed, Dana glared at him, and Raios laughed irritably.

“It’s you, Danae Windsor, who’s fond of men. Not a day goes by without a man by your side, right?”

“…”

“Your secretary you’ve raised, or your handsome-faced cousin. You’ve always shuffled them around. Isn’t that so?”

Dana narrowed her eyes. Was he talking about Lethe and Rumie? To insult Rumie in such a manner…

“It’s surprising to hear you speak of Brother Rumie in such a way.”

To lump Rumie together in such a mocking tone.

“Weren’t you two close? I understand you went abroad together for your studies.”

“Of course, we’re close. Rumie served as a bridge in my relationship with Allice.” Raios clicked his tongue as if it was a pity. “You were so blindly following Rumie. Your foolishness was pitiable.”

“…” Dana kept her mouth shut.

At the very least, Raios, who had deceived her more actively than anyone else, had no right to speak that. But she chose not to argue anymore. The more she conversed with him, the more his words she heard, the colder her head became. To waste even the energy to respond to such a person felt pointless.

“What’s this?” Raios suddenly poked her cheek with his finger. “Bitten by a bug?”

Dana slapped his hand away fiercely. Yet, instead of withdrawing, Raios grabbed her chin and lifted it.

“Behave yourself, Danae Windsor.” His grip tightened. “You’re soon to be my wife. How would it look with such blemishes?”

Dana didn’t even bother to look at him, let alone respond. His annoyance seemed to grow at her indifference.

“Danae Windsor.” Raios stared at her dismissively, then spat out, “We should hasten our marriage.” He quickly added, “We’ll start preparing as soon as we return to the capital.”

What? Her gaze involuntarily met him. As their eyes locked, Raios smirked deeply.

“With the former emperor returning to the capital, it might be best to proceed now.” He scrunched his brows as if the thought was tiresome. “The wedding will be modest since we’re hurrying, but there’s no need for it to be lavish, right? It’s merely a formal marriage anyway, so let’s get it over with as quickly as possible.”

This b*stard. Dana glared at him. But she kept her lips sealed till the end. As she continued her silence, Raios’s expression twisted even more.

“Perhaps we should take our honeymoon to the southern continent.”

“Isn’t that enough nonsense? Let go of me now.” Finally, she responded. Yet, Raios persisted in his insults.

“Allice was curious about the southern continent. It might not be a bad idea to go there now.”

“…”

Ah, Allice will be joining us on our honeymoon. Is that okay?”

Raios successfully infuriated her.

“Disgusting.”

Dana stared at him accusingly. Oddly enough, Raios wore a mockingly magnanimous smile.

“What’s disgusting?”

“Your Highness’s character. I was foolish to have loved someone like you.”

“Talking about character is laughable, Danae Windsor. You fell for me at first sight just because of my face.”

“Yes, which is why I said I was a blind fool. Judging someone based on their appearance alone is indeed a foolish act.” After her cold retort, she grabbed and pushed his wrist away. Thankfully, Raios did not hold on any longer.

“A piece of advice for you.” Instead, he threw a chilling remark over his shoulder as he turned to leave. “You’d do well not to get too close to my father.”

Dana ignored him and walked away. With each step, her head felt colder, as if encased in ice.

Hurry up and get the marriage over with? Go on a honeymoon with Allice? No, before that, you’ll be standing trial at the holy trial. Her pride surged. She was eager to shatter that confidently unwavering face of his.

Dana fervently hoped. I wish we would arrive at the capital soon. Once back in the capital, she prayed that the emperor had prepared the holy trial. And that Carl Windsor’s downfall was imminent. She hoped again and again.

Days passed, and finally, the long journey came to an end. When they finally arrived at the capital, the atmosphere was not just bleak but ominously grim.

[The Tragedy of Daiana!]

The day’s events had been revealed.

[A sudden tidal wave swept over Saint Grave Island.]

The truth was significantly distorted.

[All passengers visiting the island are reported missing after being swept away by the tidal wave…]

[Meanwhile, miraculously survived Danae Windsor and Rumie Windsor are spending a time of silent mourning for the deceased…]

“This is how we’ll handle this situation.” Viego Windsor handed her a newspaper, saying, “So make sure your story aligns with this.”

To be greeted with this upon her return was unexpected.

Dana silently regarded Viego. Having not seen him for quite some time, he appeared colder than when she last saw him. His green eyes, devoid of any warmth, felt chillingly cold.

As expected. It was the response Dana had anticipated. Viego had covered up and manipulated the truth. Just as he had with the Kaltusa territory, so he did this time. Although she had suspected it… Not even returning the corpses to the families. Dana hadn’t expected him to respond so coldly.

There was no tidal wave. The bodies of the passengers, though mutilated, remained on the island, torn apart by giants and skeletons, scattered across the island as she had seen.

Of course, this incident would trouble the Windsor family if the truth was revealed. No matter that the barbarians were blamed for the incident, the Windsors couldn’t escape responsibility either. Viego had made the best decision to avoid the impact. As the head of the family, he was terrifyingly competent; as a human, he was terrifyingly ruthless.

Dana, sitting in the shadow, looked at Viego. She resolved never to make an enemy of such a man and spoke very cautiously. “Brother, I saw a priestess named Danael on that island. And she looked exactly like—”

Viego cut her off abruptly. “I don’t have time to discuss this now, so submit a report.”

“…” Dana shut her mouth.

If there was no time for conversation, why had he summoned her? I was heading to the imperial palace.

The pope was currently in the capital, along with three cardinals. Officially, it was to offer condolences for the Daiana ship tragedy. But it was the emperor who called them.

Dana was certain. Emperor Yustio had kept his promise. He had successfully arranged for the pope and the three cardinals needed to open the holy trial.

Dana had intended to meet the emperor to schedule the trial session, but upon hearing Viego urgently summoned her, she was redirected to his office. Yet now, to not even have time for a discussion, then why…

“You must have heard that a new member joined the Windsor family.”

“Yes.” Dana nodded. “Who is this person?”

No answer came.

In the ensuing silence, Viego tapped the end of his fountain pen against the documents and slowly said, “This individual is having trouble adjusting to the mansion.”

“Is that so?”

“Yes. So, you’ll need to stay close and help him adjust for the time being.”

Help him adjust? Could it be a child?

“Alright.”

Dana readily agreed. It was a fortunate development. If she had been assigned to a distant business trip until the holy trial was convened, it would have been inconvenient.

“I’ll do it. If you could introduce me to him…”

That’s when it happened. Bang! The door flew open with a noise loud enough to tear it off its hinges. And then, a man’s voice rang out.

“What is it?”

The voice struck her like a thunderbolt. Dana, startled, instinctively clutched at her clothing.

“What the hell?”

What the hell?

“Why are you summoning people back and forth?”

That voice was clearly that person’s voice. But that’s impossible. It must be someone with a similar voice. With that thought, Dana slowly turned her head. And the next moment, she shivered with shock.

There stood a man with fiery eyes. The man laughed violently, sneering. “And what’s that b*tch doing here?”

It was the man she had killed.
