Chapter 30
“W-Wait, what are you…?”
Even as Aselin stammered in shock and confusion—
“Didn’t I ask you to help me before?” Claude’s lips curved slightly, his face calm as ever.
At that moment, Aselin felt like she was being melted under his intense gaze, as if his eyes were counting every strand of her hair.
…Why is he looking at me like that? Wait, is he seriously about to kiss me?!
[“It would really twist his insides if your groom saw his bride being touched by another man on the wedding day, wouldn’t it? Just say the word, and I’ll make sure he never dares come near you again.”]
Claude’s words from a few days ago echoed painfully in her head.
He’d been especially moody that day, so she had nodded absentmindedly just to appease him… Who knew he’d actually take it seriously?
While she was busy regretting that moment, Claude’s burning gaze fell on her lips.
His half-lidded eyes were practically promising trouble.
Aselin froze like a tree struck by lightning.
Her eyes darted around wildly before she blurted out, “Your Highness, I-I’m sorry, but I didn’t mean what I said before!”
“You didn’t mean it?”
“N-No, I just… I only said that to make you feel better that day. I’m sorry.”
As she lowered her eyes and tried to look sincerely apologetic, Claude leaned in, his lips nearing her ear.
“In that case, I should punish you for lying to me.”
What was that?
The way he said “punish” was oddly sweet—his voice was so smooth, her eardrums practically melted.
And why was he staring at her lips like he wanted to eat her whole?
Wait… is that the punishment he means…?
The thought made her face burn hot.
Even in her confusion, she couldn’t help but think: Why did he have to be that good-looking?
Claude’s face, now so close, looked almost unreal—his perfectly groomed black hair, those deep crimson eyes, every strand and lash delicately placed like a painting.
His large, warm hands, and that sculpted face as if a master had carved it by hand—
And this whole situation, sudden and dream-like, just added to the surreal feeling.
People murmuring around them, Alex glaring in disbelief—
They all faded into the background behind the glow of Prince Claude.
Then, his lips got really close.
His warm, fresh breath brushed against her skin.
“Hah… You really shouldn’t be doing this…” Aselin whispered, eyes tightly shut.
Refusing the prince’s punishment might cost her her head—or worse.
To be honest, was not it somewhat appropriate to be disciplined by a man with this much good looks?
So with all kinds of thoughts running through her head, she closed her eyes and braced herself—
—only to suddenly feel her body lifted into the air.
Startled, she opened her eyes wide.
Claude had scooped her up and was now confidently walking down the aisle.
“Y-Your Highness, where are you taking me?”
Clutching his chest out of shock from the height, she asked, and he glanced down at her.
His crimson eyes sparkled beneath his long, fluttering lashes.
“To our bedchamber. To deliver your punishment.”
“Punishment?! Y-You mean in the bedroom?!”
Her face turned red all the way to her ears.
“Aselin, what exactly do you think I meant by ‘punishment’?”
“I-I just… I thought Your Highness was…”
“You even shut your eyes like you were expecting something.”
Claude chuckled, eyes gleaming mischievously like a cat playing with a mouse.
“No, it wasn’t like that! But still, people are watching… Can you please put me down now?”
“Nope.”
“Why not?”
“Can’t you see that maniac coming after us like a zombie?”
Aselin turned her head and saw Alex charging toward them, face red with rage.
“I need to finish your revenge properly,” Claude said with a smirk.
Though she wasn’t sure what he was thinking, it felt a little reassuring to have someone on her side.
Suddenly—flash!
Cameras started going off like fireworks as reporters swarmed around them.
“This is breaking news!”
The blinding flashes made it hard for Aselin to keep her eyes open.
Being surrounded by so many people made her feel like an animal in a zoo.
And honestly, it was a little embarrassing to still be carried in Claude’s arms like this when she wasn’t even hurt.
She looked down at the muscular arms wrapped around her waist and legs and spoke hesitantly.
“Your Highness, could you please put me down now? That ‘zombie’ seems to have stopped chasing us.”
“I already told you, I’m taking you for punishment. Can’t let the criminal escape.”
“…I’m not running. And if this photo ends up in the papers, it might hurt your reputation too.”
“That’s not a concern. I called the reporters myself.”
“What?!”
She stared at him in disbelief as Claude gave her a sly smile.
