I Thought It Was a Common Transmigration

CHAPTER 125

“You wouldn’t do anything like this, would you?”

“You treat me like I’m not human, worse than an animal.”

“Well, I’m glad that’s not the case. How on earth did this happen…!”

“Don’t try to know the whole story. You should cherish your life.”

“Oh, yeah…”

The doctor, slightly surprised, sat up straight and looked at Edith’s body.

“Fortunately, her bones don’t seem to be damaged. From now on, please use warm compresses often and apply the ointment I prepared and sent to you in the morning and evening.”

“Is that all? Shouldn’t I give her some medicine or something?”

“We will decide whether to take the medicine after we examine her after she wakes up. And since it seems like she hasn’t been resting or eating properly, she needs to take absolute rest for the time being.”

“I understand.”

Although he was told twice more that it only looked serious on the outside and that the bruise itself was not a big problem, Killian asked the doctor to wait at the mansion.

He sighed, but after a while, Duke Ludwig called Killian and Cliff to check on what happened inside the prison. Killian gritted his teeth and stood up.

“Please take good care of Edith while I am away, Anna.”

“Don’t worry, just go. If you need my testimony, I can talk for hours, so please call me.”

“Thanks.”

Killian headed to the Duke’s office, feeling a sense of camaraderie with the maid, whom he had no interest in until now. When he entered the office, the Duke was wiping his blood-splattered hands with a wet towel. It seemed that all of Rigelhof’s servants and knights had been executed.

“Sit down.”

Cliff arrived as soon as Killian sat down. Sensing the cold mood of his two sons, the Duke sighed deeply and sat down.

“Who should I ask…”

When the Duke muttered as if he was in trouble, Killian spoke without even looking at his brother.

“Do you have anything to say about what happened earlier?”

“…”

“I will tell you, father. I’m a little excited, so I might use some harsh words, but you can correct that later.”

“I get it.”

For the first time, the Duke gave Killian, rather than Cliff, the right to speak. And that day, in the Duke’s office, the story about the truth they did not know continued for a long time.

* * *

It was warm. She no longer felt the cold and chilly feeling that chilled her to the core and that she felt sick of even though she only experienced it briefly.

‘Me… I lived…’

She slowly opened her eyes, rubbing the soft surface of the bedding beneath her palms. As her blurry vision became clearer, she felt stiff for a moment at the unfamiliar surroundings, even though she felt like she had seen them somewhere before, but she immediately realized that this was Killian’s room.

‘Where is Killian?’

She raised her body, which felt like it was creaking at the slightest movement, and looked around. But no one was there, including Killian.

‘I’m scared…’

Suddenly, she got goosebumps as she wondered if she might be dead. She whined and got off the bed. It was cold because she had nothing to put on, but she wanted to find someone other than herself.

“Killian…”

She called out to Killian in an uncertain voice and opened the door connecting the bedroom and the living room. The eyes of the three people sitting at the table in the living room turned towards her at the same time. It was a man who appeared to be a council member with Killian and Anna.

“Edith!”

Killian, who was startled, jumped up and walked towards her. But he flailed around with his arms and hands, unable to hold her or touch her.

“Why did it happen? Your body hasn’t fully recovered yet.”

In the end, Killian very carefully wrapped his arms around her shoulders and said in a low voice, examining her complexion. Only then did she feel the anxiety rising inside her eased.

“I’m scared because there’s no one there. I… I thought I was dead.”

At those words, Killian froze like a paused video and just stared at her.

“I’m sorry. Someone should have been guarding at your side…”

“No. I was just half asleep and had some strange thoughts.”

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry for leaving you so scared and alone.”

Killian gave her a small hug. It seemed like he was being extremely careful for fear of pressing too hard somewhere on her body. She was wondering why he was so affectionate, and then she realized that he was especially unable to touch her forearm.

‘You must have seen that I was hurt.’

It must have been quite shocking. When she first changed her clothes, the bruises were so intense that she was shocked because they were so unfamiliar to her, even though it was her own body. Looking at the dark purple bruises spreading across her forearms and thighs, she was a little worried that they would return to their flesh color again.

“First, lie down again. Because I will be by your side.”

Killian soothed her in a voice so kind that it made her stomach tingle, and after telling Anna, who stayed behind, to take note of the rest of the story, he led her back to the bedroom.

“Killian, what day is today? How long have I been sleeping?”

“Do not worry. You’ve only slept for about three days.”

“Is that ‘barely’?”

“You woke up occasionally. You don’t seem to remember.”

“Uh? Is it so?”

As Killian said, she had no memory of waking up in the middle of the night.

“You ate soup once and drank water a few times. You even went to the bathroom once.”

“I don’t remember anything at all.”

“It seemed like it. Because you looked like you were half asleep.”

She nodded absentmindedly.

“I am… Is it okay for me to lie here?”

“What does that mean?”

“I feel like you just got me out of jail. I was wondering if His Excellency the Duke was angry…”

She asked because she was really worried, but Killian’s expression seemed to be holding back his anger.

“You no longer have to worry about my father or older brother. Rather, those people will have to pay attention to you.”

“What happened?”

Killian looked into her eyes for a long time, then he let out a long sigh and told her what had happened.

* * *

When Edith was imprisoned in the dungeon and the execution of the Rigelhof family began, the first person to kneel was Count Rigelhof.

“Do you have any last words?”

Duke Ludwig asked with his last act of mercy. However, Count Rigelhof, who was already consumed by anger, fear, and madness, glared at Duke Ludwig with bloodshot eyes and grinned.

“If I die, please kill my daughter Edith too. It would be a shame for her to survive alone while we all die.”

It was Killian who answered.

“That’s funny. She is not your daughter, she is my wife.”

“Puhaha! When did you feel so attached to that child that you are now acting like this?”

“I don’t know why you are now looking for the daughter you abandoned.”

“But when did I say I abandoned her?”

“If you don’t remember abandoning her, that means you never considered her your daughter in the first place.”

At those words, Count Rigelhof’s expression became strangely stiff. Killian felt even worse when he realized that he had only stabbed him once and that was close to the answer.

“Traitors will never be spared. That is the iron law of the Rigelhof family!”

As Count Rigelhof shouted, Duke Ludwig, who was listening next to him, looked at him crookedly and said as if he was bored.

“That’s Rigelhof’s situation.”

“You don’t even know how to respect other families’ traditions…!”

“That last sentence was too long. Execute the sentence.”

Then the knight who was out as the executioner raised a sharp ax.

“Aaaah! Honey!”

“Father!”

The screams of the Rigelhof family echoed loudly throughout the execution site. The moment the ax cut through the freezing cold air, the two eyes that were glaring at Duke Ludwig went blank and hot blood sprayed into the air. The end of a human being who allowed envy and jealousy to consume his life was miserable. After Count Rigelhof was executed, the rest of his family were executed one after another. In particular, Cliff cut off Shane’s head himself and ‘slowly’.

Even as the execution room was filled with the terrible screams of death, Killian’s attention was focused on Edith, who was shivering in the basement.

‘You can take Edith to the mansion! Is father still suspicious of Edith? You don’t believe me?’

Even though he said that Edith was locked in the basement of Wellesley’s villa and almost died, he could not understand the Duke’s decision to keep Edith in the dungeon. As time passed and he became more anxious, it was Sophia’s turn to assault Edith.

“That girl…!”

Killian lit up his eyes and took a step forward. But at that time, a soldier guarding the entrance to the execution site ran and informed the Duke.

“Excuse me! Sir Renan Filch says he has something to tell you after seeing you!”

“Renan? Has he woken up?”

“I think as soon as he woke up he ran this way.”

It was Renan who lost consciousness after being hit on the head by a mercenary’s club while trying to stop a kidnapping incident. It must have been a very important message for him, who usually didn’t panic or act impatient, to come running as soon as he woke up.

“Bring him.”

And Renan, who entered the execution site at the Duke’s command, looked at the few remaining criminals with a bandage on his head and an urgent look on his face.

“Renan, what’s going on?”

“Where is Miss Edith?”

“Edith? Why are you looking for Edith?”

“I heard that the young lady was captured and brought to the execution site.”

“So?”

“The young lady is innocent! No way, she was already executed…?”

After making a loud noise, Renan stumbled and touched his temple as if his head hurt again. Killian supported him.

“Renan! Do you know something?”

Killian was so glad and desperate to see someone claiming Edith’s innocence. Renan saw that Killian was still calm and had a hunch that Edith was not dead yet.

  2. Nani says:

uhgg the duke better start thinking with his own head for once also what’s with the duchess why hasn’t she said anything at this point I’m disappointed in her too. After the boat ride fiasco some extras started to like Edith but apparently not enough so far the only people loyal to her are Anna, Renan and Leonard again please leave this foolish family and go live in your state with people that love you. Killian’s doing the most, props to you for acting like a proper husband for once only good things will follow I hope

    1. Nayane says:

I think that the author just wanted to portray Edith suffering and the Duchess (not defending her) but she was probably recovering nd sort of thorn because she assumed on site that Edith was a traitor when they were being kidnapped I guess that is why

  3. Solan says:

Thank you so much far new chapter

  4. Sophtt says:

Edith has so few people by her side. My heart ached when Killian apologized to her. My poor baby suffered so much. I only wish now that Lizard and the dumbass brother all pay for what they did to her

    1. Bubbly_BingeReaderRN says:

Few but really loyal and kind to her

  5. Mimmo says:

Please everyone, remember that Lizard had control over the main characters. It’s not the rudwich’s “real” actions because they’re being blinded by something else.
With the third stage condition I’m excited to finally see who they truly are. But I won’t forgive them 😊
And how was the talk with the Duke??? He better grovel at Edith’s feet for everything he made her suffer!

Thank you so much for your work RJR!!!

  6. Astarria says:

  10. kirakira01 says:

    yesssssssss more witnesses!!!!!

  11. Quaade says:

Context: when doing executions this way nobility has the “honour” of having their heads cut off with a sword. Only commoners get the axe. That they’re executed by axe is a huge “fuck you” as it means they’re no longer seen as nobility.
