I Thought It Was a Common Transmigration

CHAPTER 118

“The carriage to Apentus leaves in five minutes! We’ll be filling up soon, so hurry!”

Since she missed the train to Drivbon, she had to take the train to Apentus. She knew it in her head. But for some reason, her feet didn’t fall off.

‘What should I do? Really what?’

While she stood up, sat down again, and tapped her feet impatiently, someone managed to take the last seat in the carriage bound for Apentus, and when it was full, the carriage departed without further delay. She sighed, staring blankly at the empty space where the carriage bound for Apentus had left.

‘Tomorrow… I’ll be sure to take the carriage to Apentus tomorrow.’

Thinking over her poor resolution, she found a room at an inn close to the carriage station. But the next day she never got on the carriage. She sat down on the same bench as yesterday and tapped her foot on the floor nervously. She missed the carriage bound for Drivan and Apentus, so she got up again and walked around the carriage station. She even developed a fever that evening, so she had to spend another three days suffering from pain.

‘I’m going to get caught like this.’

She became impatient and headed to Machacha Station as soon as her fever went away. This time it was a cold day, as if her whole body was freezing. While she was waiting for a carriage under the roof of a shabby carriage station, sheltering from the snow, she could hear the conversation of people around me.

“Did you see that Duke Ludwig placed a wanted person on the list?”

“Oh, I saw the flyer on my way here earlier too. She’s quite a pretty girl, isn’t she?”

“The bounty is also significant.”

“Wouldn’t the Ludwig Knights invade here soon? I thought they would check to see if they were mixed in with the people going down to the countryside.”

“Hey, even if you die soon, would she still ride a carriage in a place like this when she comes from a noble family? She must have borrowed a carriage from a relative she knew and ran away.”

Here was a noble lady who looked like she was about to die.

‘It’s really the last time.’

The choices and decisions that had been delayed could no longer be postponed. The carriage to Drivan departed in 10 minutes, and the carriage to Apentus departed in 20 minutes.

‘Don’t be stubborn, don’t have regrets… Let’s go to Drieburn.’

With that in mind, she bought three freshly baked potatoes at the convenience store at Machha Station. It would be warm if she held it, and it would be good as a meal replacement since she didn’t eat breakfast. She filled her canteen with water, so this should be enough to get her through to Ramolo, the first stopover. The moment she thought about those calculations and turned to head to the carriage bound for Driburn, her foot stopped short without her even realizing it. The other passengers sitting in silence, all cowering, the driver smoking a cigarette with an indifferent expression on his face, the white breath of the horses scattering every time they purr… When she saw the almost colorless sight of the carriage station, her heart suddenly ached.

‘Lonely…’

She realized it as if she had received a revelation from God. She was lonely. Choi Sona, who was lonely at every moment of her life, had never thought about this before, but it was only after meeting Killian, who taught her how to feel excited, that she felt like she had truly learned about loneliness.

‘Is there a reason to continue living like this…?’

The sigh that escaped like a sob turned into white breath and clouded her vision. No, she didn’t even know if she was crying. Life was now so difficult just struggling not to die. Even after she ran away, she would always fret, conscious of the fact that she did not meet the level 3 exception conditions, and in the meantime, she would never forget Killian.

‘Maybe I can meet someone else and start a life. We might be able to get along like a decent couple. But that… Is this the life I want?’

She was reminded of a child who cried because he was so jealous of her, asking her why she was throwing it away when she had the opportunity to live. The child who lay next to her in the leukemia ward and whose eyes eventually closed while she was receiving a bone marrow transplant. But now, even thinking about that child, he didn’t feel much of an obligation to live. Like an old lamp that has burned out to the last drop of oil, she was so exhausted.

‘Maybe my mission in this world is to be beheaded by Killian. Only then will the narrative be complete.’

If there was anything that her presence had a positive impact on, it was that Killian seemed to have moved away from his blind love for Lise.

‘When I die, Killian will be able to love others with peace of mind.’

She sat back down on the bench, holding a warm potato wrapped in a paper bag in her arms. And she quietly watched as the carriage bound for Drivan and the carriage bound for Apentus left. Looking at the empty space left by the carriage, she no longer felt so anxious or sad. It was when the potatoes in her arms had almost completely cooled that the knights wearing the Ludwig family insignia arrived at the carriage station.

“There will be a brief inspection! We just need to check your face, so don’t be embarrassed or afraid and follow the knights’ instructions!”

While people were confused about the sudden security check, she put the paper bag containing the cooled potatoes in her bag and adjusted her clothes. Her face was still bruised from how hard she had been hit by Sophia, and she was a little worried that Killian would look at her with disgust.

‘Me too. Worrying about nothing when you’re dying…’

It was said that the late wind was scary, but the first love that fell in love only after death was threatening to drain the liver and gallbladder. No, did she already take it out? She laughed and slowly took off the shawl and scarf that were covering her head and face. And she waited for the knights to approach me.

“Uh… uh…?”

The knight who had glanced at her face out of courtesy turned his body around, then turned his head again and made a strange sound.

“Uh… excuse me…”

“You’re late.”

“Yes?”

The knight that said they had come to catch her seemed more perplexed.

“Why, what’s going on?”

A person who seemed to be the knight commander asked the knight standing in front of her.

“Oh, no, that’s… I guess… I think I found it…”

“What?”

She slowly turned her head to look at the knight commander, and the knight commander also let out a ‘gasp!’ in surprise.

“I waited. Let’s go now.”

She tried to smile and got up. However, perhaps because she had been sitting in the cold for a long time, her legs became stiff and she stumbled. Fortunately, the knight in front of her held her up, but he grabbed her whipped forearm so hard that Ishehad no choice but to scream in pain.

“Aww! Oh, it hurts!”

The knights let go of their hands in surprise, and she held on to the pillar next to her while the field let out a breath. She managed to stand on her own, but her legs kept shaking and she couldn’t walk properly.

“I’m sorry for being a wanted criminal, but can you help me out a little? Because my legs don’t move well…”

According to the principle, she would have to walk to the Duke’s residence tied with a rope. The knight commander seemed to be thinking about something and called another knight.

“You two support her on both sides.”

“That… Are you going to return like this?”

“I guess we can just let him walk alone from near the mansion.”

She expressed her gratitude for the knight commander’s decision.

‘Now, I’m going to meet Killian!’

Even though she was on her way to die, she somehow smiled.

* * *

It was a stroke of great luck that Killian encountered a man snooping around Wellesley’s villa.

“I was snooping around this deserted place as if I knew it well! Like I’m looking for something!”

“If you know this place well, there’s a good chance it was one of the mercenaries who escaped!”

When the knights who caught the man shouted as if to warn him, the man fell flat on the floor and trembled. However, Killian felt like he was grasping at a straw, knelt down in front of the man, grabbed his hand, and asked:

“By any chance, do you know the woman with brown hair who was held here? Her reddish-brown hair, how tall she is, and her brown eyes… She won’t blame you if you tell her anything about her whereabouts.”

At those words, the man seemed embarrassed and couldn’t make eye contact, fidgeting and barely opening his mouth.

“Are you going out to catch her?”

“I’m desperately looking for her. We must find her!”

“Well, that woman… They said she was the captain’s sister, but she had nothing to do with them! She was a good person!”

Hearing the words of a man who knew Edith and even respected her, Killian felt like a dawn had come.

“Yes, that’s right! She is not guilty of anything! Did you ever see that woman? Please tell me something! I am her husband!”

Then the man continued talking as if he was greatly relieved.

“Yes, actually… I am a mercenary with orders to lock her in the basement. But when I heard about her situation, I couldn’t help but feel sympathy. But I couldn’t really help much… All I did was loosen the ropes that bound her.”

Only then did Killian understand how Edith was able to untie the rope and escape by herself.

“Then she thanked me and gave me and my colleague the last ruby necklace she had. She then told me to run away quickly and that Duke knights would come soon. If I hadn’t run away then, my colleagues and I would have died as well.”

“You were one of the first mercenaries who ran away without receiving any money.”

“Yes. After that, I found out who the captain who bought us was and who the people we kidnapped were, but no matter how much I listened, I couldn’t seem to hear anything about that woman, so I came here in a hurry.”

Killian held the man’s hand tighter and said thank you several times. He had a mercenary hired by Shane help Edith, who he could not help at all. What a valuable help it was for Edith. He even gave a very important clue.

  1. I’m in a dilemma. On one hand, hearing Edith’s thoughts make me sad and I want her to leave. On the other, I’m eager to see the 3rd requirement being met. Meanwhile, killian is going half mad in anxiety

  2. Mari says:

  3. Reyaemina says:

  4. Odette says:

Thank you so much for the frequent updates! I’m loving this novel and check in every day for your translations!

  5. Mechy says:

  6. ZomBee says:

I’m wondering if the third requirement is something like Killian choosing Edith over his family?? I want to see that!!!

  7. h.d.k says:

    Terimakasih,
Aku tak sabar menunggu Killian bertemu dengan Edith kembali,
Tolong pertemukan mereka kembali agar mereka hidup bahagia🥲

  8. Yubaba says:

    😭😭😭😭😭
I guess she need her time to realize her true feeling. It wasn’t about surviving, it was growing old with love otherwise she chooses death 😭😭😭😭😭

  9. Astarria says:

I guess the 3rd requirement is her coming back to “accept fate/punishment” instead of running away. I part want her to leave and be done with these people, but part want her to be with Killian who actually trusts and loves her. But if she goes back I want her to give Cliff and the Duke a good beating . Guilt trip to the max, no forgiveness or comfort.

  10. hrllscrt says:

I am so proud of Edith. Not running away and determined in her own feelings is not wrong. So what if Killian wants to kill her? It’s not a bad ending if you are that in love with him. From the beginning, their meeting was not meant to be a cordial nor diplomatic one and she has maneuvered well so far. If I wad Edith, I would go back and fight. Not because I love Killian, but because I can’t stand people spreading lies about me anymore bad and it already is. Even better, make the Ludwigs see how pathetic they are despite being so-called wise and powerful. F their whole clan for having idiots like the duke and his firstborn. And for the duchess to be so helplessly confused. Never been a fan of the situation where someone is being adored for no apparent reason at all.

  11. Zeel says:

    No words, just tears

  12. TinaSparkles says:

So, I never wrote here but here I am. I’ve been reading the novel mostly at work since I’m an intern and there isn’t much to do so far, and today I couldn’t hold back tears.

I really didn’t think they’d come at a time like this. It really took me by surprise. I think it was because Killian finally found great clues of where she might be. I think that, just like Killian, I was so glad. So glad that someone defended her. So glad that he now has gotten closer to finding her.

I relate to Edith quite a fair bit. Having to keep your mouth shut despite going trough so much. I really hope she has a happy ending.

I’ll know, however, rest. Because I devoured the last 20 chapters just this morning on the way to work. I need to digest everything.

  13. TinaSparkles says:

Btw I went to the bathroom so my eyes could bust into tears lmao
