I Thought It Was a Common Transmigration

CHAPTER 116

“I also have to find Edith. Even if she is a spy, I cannot deny that she is my wife.”

“Killian! Are you saying you will prioritize your personal feelings over your family?”

“If Edith really committed a crime, she should be punished. But if you try to kill her, I’ll kill you!”

Killian’s mood was so ominous that he felt as if he would draw his sword at any moment.

He headed straight toward the knights guarding his mansion.

“I’m going to go check the scene where mother and Lise were kidnapped right now! Leonard! Choose only ten people and prepare them!”

However, Cliff’s anger at almost losing Lise was not easy.

“Father. We will release more people. Let’s find Edith Riegelhoff and bring her before her father!”

At the mention of ‘Edith Riegelhoff’, Killian glared harshly at Cliff. But unfortunately he couldn’t afford to argue about Edith’s name. Killian ignored the welcome dinner prepared for them upon their return from the war and ran straight to Wellesley’s abandoned villa.

“Please come back without getting hurt. I will clearly remember that brag about showing how great you are.”

He kept thinking of Edith, who smiled steadfastly even though she was ignored by Duke Ludwig, and that last smile kept coming to mind. No, in fact, not only at this moment, but throughout the entire territory battle, he endured while remembering that smile, those warm eyes, and the dizzying scent of roses. It reminded him of Edith, who would sweat every night while knitting the loose knit she knitted for him. That was the only genuine smile of the day.

‘Edith! Where are you now!’

If she really was a spy for the Rigelhoff family, he had to find her first.

‘I have to find her first and hide her safely. If I secretly take her to Ryzen and have a child, my father and brother won’t be able to object.’

Although the cold wind hit his cheek harshly, Killian did not slow down in the slightest, and thanks to this, he was able to reach Wellesley in no time.

“There it is!”

The knight who went on a hostage rescue mission with Cliff guided Killian to the villa where the incident occurred. There was still a smell of something rotting around, but Killian paid it no mind and entered the villa. From the blood stains on the floor and walls, he was able to roughly guess what happened there that day.

“The Duchess was at the other end of the room, and Lady Lise was at the other end of the room.”

“Have you searched every nook and cranny?”

“Well, that… At that time, the Duchess was not in good condition and had to return quickly…”

Killian did not listen to the knight’s answer and ordered the knights behind him to search each room. And he himself headed to the warehouse on the first floor where Lise first opened her eyes.

“Turn on more lights!”

It was a place where there wasn’t much light, so he turned on two more lights and lay down on the bare floor of the warehouse.

“Well, master…?”

The other knights were confused as they didn’t know why Killian was doing this, but Killian scanned every corner of the floor with his back.

“Did you say all the mercenaries were wearing hoods?”

“Yes.”

“Shane has blonde hair, and that maid has black hair, right?”

“Yes, it is, but…”

“Then… Who does this reddish-brown hair belong to?”

Killian held a few strands of long brown hair in his hands.

“Edith was here.”

Killian got up and went outside. The knights searched each room, but no one found anything.

“Where did they take Edith?”

Killian imagined this place that day in his head. They said that when Lise opened her eyes, Edith was not there. In that case, Edith would have been taken somewhere earlier than that. And Count Rigelhof and Shane would not have immediately forgiven Edith for betraying the family.

‘In fact, they probably tried to kill her before anyone else in our family.’

Killian looked around carefully, and his eyes fell on a dark passageway in the opposite corner of the warehouse.

“What is that?”

Killian pointed with his hand, but the driver who came with Cliff looked surprised, as if he had never seen it there before.

“Ji, the stairs leading to the basement… I guess?”

“Have you checked the underpass?”

“S-sorry. At that time, we were fighting in this narrow place…”

Killian thought it would be better to check for himself rather than listen to more frustrating answers, so he went straight down to the basement. He was in a place that was said to be underground, but he didn’t go down very deep. He opened the door leading to the basement, and a hallway that was underground but not underground appeared.

“It appears to have been used as servants’ quarters or a wine cellar.”

Ignoring the article’s further explanation that followed, Killian went straight to a room. He went there for one reason. Among the rooms lined up along the hallway, it was the only one with an open door.

“Ah…!”

Killian, whose back was shining into the open room, made a sound without realizing it. Someone was trapped there. There was a heavy wooden chair in the middle of the cold stone room, and behind it was a bundle of untied rope. On the shabby wooden table was a lamp with a burnt wick, giving off a burnt smell, and a black horsewhip was lying around haphazardly in front of it. But what caught Killian’s attention more than anything else was the blood stains on the floor and the corsage of the headdress he had once bought her.

“Edith…”

Edith was here. And she got out of here alone. In this cold weather, how far could an injured woman in a ball gown and satin shoes travel?

“We have to find her… I must find her…”

Killian held the corsage tightly and clenched his chattering molars. Here he must not allow himself to be embarrassed and shaken. He had to move immediately for Edith, who was shivering somewhere.

“Leonard.”

“Yes!”

Killian entrusted the task to Leonard, the only knight who knew that Edith had been assaulted by Sophia.

“Go straight to the mercenary guild and buy searchers. Scour the capital. They probably haven’t left the capital yet.”

“Yes!”

“I’m going to start scanning around here.”

Leonard paused at those words and spoke cautiously.

“Master, why don’t you go back to the mansion and relieve your worries first? You haven’t been able to rest for too long.”

But Killian shook his head.

“If it were you, would you be able to rest after losing your wife?”

Then he immediately turned around and went upstairs.

“Follow Leonard, two of you, head to the capital and search around here for the rest!”

The knights who were looking at Killian curiously noticed something when they saw the corsage in Killian’s hand and the heavy aura of Leonard following it. Above all, Killian’s eyes were more desperate than ever.

“Yes! All right!”

The knights who were investigating the villa all ran outside and mounted their horses. Killian looked resentfully at the sky, where light snow had begun to fall, then gritted his teeth and climbed onto the horse.

* * *

While walking north from Wellesley, she was lucky enough to meet a kind-hearted baron and his wife.

“No matter how you look at it, you look like a noble lady. Why are you walking alone?”

“Oh my god! The face…!”

Fortunately, they didn’t know who she was and didn’t run away when they saw her miserable appearance. She thought it was a heaven-sent opportunity and clung to them.

“Help! I was kidnapped by robbers and barely escaped!”

It’s not even a lie. And the baron and his wife also believed her.

“I heard there are a lot of kidnappings for ransom these days! Come on, come on, get in the carriage!”

She gladly accepted their favor. Baron Ruben and his wife, who had just come from the countryside to meet relatives in the capital, were good people, as if they had never done anything bad in their lives. She looked suspicious at first glance, but they not only put her in a carriage but also gave her water. Thanks to this, she was able to avoid fainting from exhaustion.

“Which family are you the daughter of? I’ll take you home!”

“The favor is truly appreciated. But there is something I need to resolve first. Please forgive me for not being able to explain in detail as it is an important matter for the family.”

She wiped my face with the handkerchief the Baroness gave her while playing the role of a young lady with a lot of stories. The dried blood did not come off easily, so it took a long time to wipe it off with a wet handkerchief.

‘Thank god. Even if we somehow managed to reach the capital, we would have been immediately arrested by the Public Security Agency in the same way we did before.’

Shepromised the Baron and his wife that she would repay this favor someday, and left their worries behind and headed towards Darsus Street, where the bank was located. It would have been nice if she could cover her face, but she didn’t have any money in her pocket. Fortunately, the bank gatekeeper did not stop her.

“I came to get the money.”

It must have looked very strange for a woman to appear with huge bruises on her face, looking for money as soon as she sat down. The bank teller, forgetting her welcoming smile, looked at her with her mouth wide open and whispered lowly:

“Would you like me to contact you?”

“No! Can’t you see my face now? I left the house after fighting with my husband, so why am I going in there?”

“Ah…!”

At that one word, the employee quickly nodded her head as if she understood everything and handed over the documents for withdrawal. Since they were looking for a large amount of money, there were a lot of documents to fill out. She quickly filled out the documents while glancing toward the bank’s main entrance, afraid that someone would come in looking for her at any moment. If she hadn’t had experience helping Renan with his work, she would have been at a loss for a long time.

“Are you going to get the full amount?”

“I see. It would be nice if they gave me bills to make it easier to carry. Please hand out the large and small denomination bills as I wrote in the documents.”

Because she used an assumed name when opening the safe, the bank teller didn’t seem to notice that she was from the Ludwig family. They would never imagine that the person who appeared with such a messed up face was the Ludwig family daughter-in-law. After subtracting the safe deposit fee, she received the remainder in bills, divided it in half, and put it in both pockets.

  1. I never thought I’d ever pity killian but here we are. Oh I hope they find each other soon and not drag it till 4 to 5 chapters. Is it just me or this chapter seem short? Anyways, thank you again RJR

    1. Erdin says:

      Cannt wait erdin and lilia

  2. EC says:

This was worth the wait!!! I’m not happy of Edith’s or Killian’s situation but the progress of the story was really good!

At this point, I’m really okay if the story ends here with Killian finding Edith before she got away but I’ll be more than happy if the story continues with Edith getting away to live somewhere far and peaceful and have another set of events to have more time for the other characters like the duchess, duke, etc. to further break from the author’s control.

My anticipation for the next chapters are now killing me!!! Thank you for your hard work RjR!!!

    1. Lady Godiva says:

You will definitely get your wish granted. 40 chapters more.

  3. Solan says:

I hope Edith find a good place and be safe until that lizard gets punishment for being the evil she is

  4. Tsik says:

And here I am again, I couldn’t sleep again just by thinking what might happen in the next chapter. Exciting! But I hope Edith and Killian would find happiness soon coz their suffering really is frustating. Thanks RJR for everything exciting chapters!

  5. Eru says:

Thank you so much for the translation!! The way I rushed here when I remembered there’d be an update today djdjsksjs

Man I can imagine how bad each of them feels :(( Killian being fucked over by Cliff not bothering to look for his wife and him not knowing if Edith is alive, and Edith girlbossing while feeling betrayed ;; As much as I want to see them find each other soon, I kinda want to see Edith pull off her initial plan and live peacefully away from both families (and making the Ludwig’s feel guilt bc fuck them 😭 I expected mother-in-law would at least insist on looking for Edith after she tried so hard for them while they were being kidnapped). May they leave for Ryzen soon and leave the jerk families behind!!

  6. Mimmo says:

RJR, thank you for the amazing translation and all the work you’ve done for this story!

I KNEW KILLIAN WOULDN’T DISAPPOINT ME GO FIND YOUR WIFE!!!!

Edith is so resourceful! In little time she already carried out her plan without fail. I’m hoping this is the event that will fulfill the third condition and she will finally be able to tell the truth!!!

And I know the duke and Cliff are being mind controlled by K, but I still want then to shut the fuck up and stop with their stupidity. At the same time, I want to know who are they when they’re not mere puppets.

It’s time the “author” is exposed. And Lizard to fall out of favour with the Rudwig. Give the people what they want!

  7. saya_tee13 says:

I was so on adge when I was reading this chapter… I was so worried for Edith and Killian my heart couldn’t stop pounding)

  8. Natalie says:

The fact that Killian was still going to love and save her even if she was a spy speaks so much to his true character and how much he cares for Edith and sees who she really is. The true Killian (not under author’s control) is the best most sincere ml I have read in a novel/manhwa in a long time ♡♡♡

    1. Bubbly_BingeReaderRN says:

I truly agree with you. Even his plan to hide Edith and have a child with her shows he really is smitten with her… ❤️❤️❤️

  9. Sophtt says:

Killian really went for it… My mans down so bad for Edith he’d want her even if she was indeed a spy for the rigelhoffs. Gogo Killian!
I can barely wait for the next chapter

  10. Astarria says:

I love Kilian for giving her the benefit of the doubt and obviously loving her. But was I the only one angry that his first thought was “if she did it I have to hide her, have a baby and then my family will have to accept her?” It kind of ruined the “trust” he claimed he had, at least to me it does.

  11. Yuhmuda says:

I think Edith is already pregnant

    1. Belle-chan says:

      me 2

      obrigada pela tradução RJR

  12. Zeel says:

Ah the peace I’m feeling just reading the first lines. Killian really threatened to kill his family if they try to kill Edith. YEEEEESSSSSS

  13. Zeel says:

Yes my girl. FLEE for a while. Killian honey, I know you’re in a lot of pain. But just suffer a little more to do justice to all the pain Edith suffered for a while year.
