When You Turned Your Back On Me, We Became Strangers

WYTYBMWBS I Chapter 00

“I’m leaving.”

“……Riley.”

If you loved me for once, I wouldn’t be this miserable.

Even at this moment, as they were facing each other, she was out of breath.

I knew it. The fact that he was in love with someone else and the fact that he thought of her as just a woman who would bear him children to carry on the family name.

Riley thought it would be nice to just have Theo by her side.

Like a fool. Stupidly.

Love.

How much of something precious did she lose when she was caught up in the invisible illusion called love? If he really loved me, this couldn’t have been possible.

Maybe it was the wrong relationship to begin with.

Me, holding his hand, blindfolded and trusting only what I could see to escape, and him, deceiving himself and creating feelings for the sake of family power.

Still, she wanted to believe.

Wouldn’t he change, wouldn’t he come back?

I thought he would hug me with a sweet smile, just like he first whispered to me that he loved me. Even if we can’t go back to the way we used to, we’re still family.

She believed that nothing would ever change.

But her desperate wish was not fulfilled. What had been a fragile glimpse of a relationship ended up being nothing more than a struggle to keep from falling off a rotted string.

I was the only one who broke and crashed to the ground.

Carrying his child in my belly, my only hope and refuge. I could still feel her kicking me in the stomach, and a wave of sadness washed over me.

The feeling of warmth, the warmth of being together, was something no one else could know. Only I could feel it.

Slowly, Riley stroked my stomach, now empty, now nothing.

“I’m sorry, baby. For letting you go without ever seeing the world. Mummy’s sorry.’

She closed her eyes tightly. I tried to imagine my unheard child crying, smiling, holding my hand, but I couldn’t.

“What happened to her was…… unexpected.”

Unexpected…….

Riley couldn’t stop laughing at her own helplessness. Even now, standing in front of Theo, who was making fun of her face, it was hard for her.

“Was she the only one……?”

Theo’s blank expression and emotionless tone dragged Riley down into endless despair.

Yes, I wish she had been my only child, so I wouldn’t have to worry about whether or not the child who had left my arms would hear.

Theo hurriedly tried to make an excuse when he saw Rayleigh’s hard gaze.

“That’s not what I meant.”

“I mean that the woman……. That woman you love, when she pushed me down the stairs…….”

You didn’t see it. The confusion, surprise, and joy on her face.

No matter what I said, Theo wouldn’t listen. What good would it do to come now and tell him the truth?

If he left, it would be over.

Theo narrowed his eyes, still looking at Riley. His patience wasn’t very long.

No, is there such a thing as patience in the first place? By spending every night with his mistress, she’d managed to sneak a child into her belly.

“It was a mistake. She couldn’t have done it on purpose.”

“It was our child, my child, your child! It’s dead……. I still feel like she’s alive in my belly.”

The anger and despair she had been suppressing came over her again.

Wouldn’t it be okay if I just disappeared? I didn’t understand why they wouldn’t let me go.

“Do you really not understand? No, you don’t. On the contrary, you know what he’s thinking.

Theo was still not giving up.

Riley felt a chill run down her spine at the way Theo looked at her. She was tired of curling up on her stomach every night and struggling to fall asleep.

No one in this manor mourned the loss of a child except her.

It was as if they never had a child, as if the child had never existed in the first place.

“Riley, I understand where you’re coming from, but you can’t just divorce me like this.”

“‘We can have another baby’.

He lied without batting an eye.

Theo’s words made Riley’s clenched fists tremble. She didn’t want to be in the same room anymore. This was a relationship that could have ended with me letting go.

He didn’t love her, yet he said he wouldn’t let her go. For her own fame and power, simply because she was the daughter of the powerful Trayla family on the surface.

Theo had Anna live with him, not far from his home.

he came and went every day, making love to her and bringing her before him to introduce his mistress, Riley couldn’t let go of him, so she covered her eyes and deceived herself.

It won’t last long, I’m his legal wife, she can’t threaten my place.

But that vain hope did not come true, not after a month, not after a year. Anna didn’t care much about Riley.

She knew she had the upper hand here.

But when Riley became pregnant with Theo’s child, Anna felt things shift a little.

There were things she couldn’t have: a child with Theo and a place as a duchess.

It wasn’t long before Riley became nauseous and nearly lost her child.

After that day, she realized something was wrong.

“If I keep doing this, I’m putting myself and my child at risk.

The more time she spent watching Anna, the more she felt like she was keeping an eye on her.

She would only eat the food that was prepared in front of her eyes.

She was frustrated, but she had no proof. Theo wouldn’t listen to her, and here she was, a mere pretender, a duchess.

Until Anna pushed me down the stairs, I thought I was the only needed to be careful about food.

When she pulled me to kill the child I was carrying, I realized how stupid I’d been thinking.

If only I’d gotten out of this place sooner if only I’d been able to…….

Riley’s breath caught in her throat as she realized what she had done.

She stepped back from Theo, who was holding her hand, he touched me a little but I felt disgusted.

“I love you, and I want you to be happy with that woman who’s going to give you a child…….”

Her anger leaked out as she gritted her teeth.

The grinding sound showed how much I was holding back my emotions.

“Riley, come on, what the hell is wrong with you?”

“I guess I’m just glad we’re getting out of here.”

Theo chewed on his lip. He couldn’t talk his way out of this.

“Shit, this wasn’t supposed to happen.

The sound of Theo’s head rolling could be heard over the distance. Riley smiled weakly, her eyes narrowing in disdain at Theo.

“You only have me because I’m the daughter of House Trayla, and the woman you love is a lowly noble with nothing.”

“Riley!”

The reason I couldn’t tell home was because I was sure nothing would change. Would it have been better if I had run away?

What made her miserable, holding on to the illusions she wanted to believe?

She didn’t tell her family because she was sure it would make no difference. Honor, the eyes of the world. It wouldn’t do her any good if her father found out.

So she decided to get away from him now. From this emotion that consumed her, from the man who had caused her to lose her own child.

To erase this horrible life here.

“So divorce me, and I’ll leave this place.”

“That’s ridiculous.”

“Does what happened to me here make sense?”

“Riley.”

Theo’s face twisted. To see the change in his expression at the mention of divorce, Riley couldn’t help but let the mockery slip out.

For my sake, and for the sake of my child, who was taken from me because of my stupidity.

“I don’t want to see you again, Theo.”

She reached out and shook off Theo’s grip on her arm and climbed into the ready carriage.

There were no more tears. As she stared out the window, a sign appeared on her neck and tingled.

“Are you sure about this? They’ll know when you use your powers.”

A low, gravelly voice said, and a long-haired man appeared opposite her.

“It’s fine, I knew I wouldn’t be able to hide it forever anyway.”

“…….”

“Just let me be me.”

“Yeah, if that’s what you want.”

Riley’s silver hair turned black at the man’s touch.

Her vision went black, and she felt a dull ache in her heart. She closed her eyes, still, and tears streamed from her eyes.

She didn’t even know why she was crying.
