What Does That Evil Dragon Live For?

WDEDLF-Chapter 79

The next memory was the moment when Lancer asked Rabes to stop an avalanche on a snowy mountain.

It was an enormous avalanche that seemed impossible to handle with human power, but at Lancer’s call, the huge black dragon Rabes appeared in the air and made the collapsing snowball disappear.

Although it was Rabes who performed the magic, all humans could see was Lancer, and the people who lived under the mountain knelt there and bowed to Lancer in gratitude over and over again.

And the thoughts that came to Molly’s mind as she looked at that scene were buried in her memory.

‘If I was a dragon contractor, I could do this much! Why did only Lancer have such luck?’

It was intense jealousy.

Molly, who received guidance from Lancer, had already become quite a powerful witch, and as long as Lancer was not a dragon contractor, she believed that her abilities would be no lower than Lancer’s.

Lancer was her benefactor who saved her life and raised her, but ever since she was with Lancer, Molly has always suffered from jealousy of him.

Lancer didn’t seem to know Molly’s true intentions until the end, but this memory wasn’t surprising to Rabes because Molly was always in a bad mood.

The reason Rabes was confused was because of the third and fourth memories.

“Good night, Sergey…”

Lancer carefully stroked the cheek of Sergey, or a human version of Rabes, who was sleeping on the bed, and then lightly kissed him.

‘What is that perverted old man doing now?’

Molly, who was watching the scene through the crack in the door, was astonished. In her eyes, it looked like a man in his fifties had invited a young man to his bedroom and kissed the sleeping young man’s cheek.

Because of that, Molly’s dislike for Lancer seemed to have deepened, but Molly’s feelings were not important to Rabes.

‘Lancer kissed my cheek? Doesn’t that mean he considers me as his close friend like Elaine?’

Rabes also clearly remembered when that situation occurred.

It was the night he returned from somewhere after spending a lot of magical power at Lancer’s request.

Lancer suggested that Rabes sleep for a little while, and Rabes, who was already feeling a little tired, accepted his suggestion to quickly replenish his magical power.

And like he always did whenever he stayed in Lancer’s room, he transformed into Sergey’s form and slept in Lancer’s bed.

‘It was not long before he betrayed me. Why did Lancer, who had been so close to me, do that…?’

Rabes really couldn’t understand.

And Molly’s last memories were even more incomprehensible.

“We will soon meet with Master Rabes in Calgore Cave.”

“The ‘day’ has finally arrived.”

“Thank you, Lysia. I will never forget this grace.”

Lancer was bowing to the human dragon.

The dragon called ‘Lysia’ was looking at Lancer with an extremely kind expression, but Rabes felt that it was even more dangerous.

There’s no way a dragon would be kind to a human for no reason.

“I will accept it after you succeed. You clearly remember the spell I told you, right?”

“It’s my last wish. How could I forget it?”

“You only get one chance. If Master Rabes notices, it’s over, so be careful not to act awkwardly and recite the spell quickly and accurately.”

“Yes. Alright. then…See you later.”

Lancer smiled somewhat sadly and nodded.

And Molly, who remained where he left, talked to the dragon.

“I never expected that person to have such a wish.”

“Humans are always greedy. It’s not surprising anymore.”

“But is it really okay? If it’s that black dragon, he could kill Lancer once.”

“Shall we make a bet? Rabes can never kill that person. That’s the cute thing about that dragon, he’s so innocent, like a young dragon.”

The tone was light and playful.

That was the end of Molly’s memory, but Rabes knew for sure that Lancer had betrayed him by colluding with a certain dragon.

‘We are so close, but you sealed me? That was your last wish? why? Lancer, why on earth!’

It was bad enough that Lancer had contact with a dragon race other than Rabes, and the fact that he even learned the dragon sealing magic from that dragon and sealed Rabes was something that could not be understood or forgiven.

However, rather than just hating Lancer, the sight of Lancer carefully caressing him while he was sleeping and kissing him affectionately touched her.

He doesn’t know what it must have been like from Molly’s perspective, but for Rabes, it was a strangely heart-fluttering scene that he couldn’t easily forget.

This is because Lancer always shows a calm demeanor when Rabes wakes up.

‘I thought I could understand Lancer a little bit, but it seems like I’m falling into even more mystery.’

Rabes let out a long sigh.

There was something else that bothered him.

‘It was definitely the magic power of the dragon.’

When he passed from Sasha to Abel’s shoulder, Rabes was surprised by two things.

One was that Abel’s body was in fact nothing more than a scarecrow, and the other was that the magic power that controlled the body gave off the scent of a dragon.

‘But why was the dragon’s magic power like that? Are there any hybrids among the dragon race?’

TL: a hybrid is the offspring resulting from combining the qualities of two organisms of different varieties, subspecies, and species through sexual reproduction.

The reason why he could not immediately recognize that the magical power he felt from Abel was dragon magical power was because the wavelength of that magical energy was very unique.

Dragon magic usually feels clear and intense, but the dragon magic in Abel feels like a mixture of various powers.

But Rabes couldn’t deny that it was dragon magic.

‘Could it be a dragon dispatched from Middle Earth?’

It was quite possible. The dragon would be in an uproar, let alone Rabes breaking the seal and turning back time.

‘But that doesn’t mean he knows that Elaine is my contractor…’

It was the dragon stone they were looking for, not Elaine’s connection to Rabes.

Elaine seemed to have been distracted by the letter written by her mother and ignored it, but Sasha and Abel were blatantly trying to find the dragon magic stone that Elaine’s mother had inherited.

‘I didn’t know why they were looking for the dragon magic stone, but if they found out that the dragon magic stone was in Elaine’s body, they wouldn’t hesitate to cut Elaine’s body in half.’

‘Anyway, I need to protect Elaine.’

Rabes was flapping his tail nervously and trying to figure out how to protect Elaine.

* * *

After organizing his thoughts and composing himself, Rabes told Elaine ‘part’ of what he had figured out the previous day the next day.

“What? The Marquise of Hebron is also a witch?”

[The fact that those humans have magical powers is none of our concern. Rather, the problem is that they are very interested in you.]

“What do you mean, interested in me?”

[Didn’t you notice anything weird yesterday?]

“Well, it was all a bit of a surprise, because the Marquise knew my mother and me, and she even showed me a letter my mother had written”

[The letter…wasn’t it somehow strange? all four of them, there was mention of the jewel that your mother had.]

“Ah! Now that I think about it, it seems like that.”

Rabes clicked his tongue.

[They asked you if you knew about the jewel, and when you said you didn’t, they got up and left like they were done with you. You still don’t know why they called you?]

“Are you saying they called me to find that jewelry, that it belonged to my grandfather? But it was me who asked to see the Marquise first…”

[I’m sure he’s been meaning to call you, but you asked first.]

“But I really don’t know. I’ve been harassed by my uncle for years about that.…”

She thought she had finally escaped that obsessive search, so she couldn’t help but sigh.

Then Elaine asked with an anxious face.

“Mother’s letter…Could it have been fake too?”

[The purpose seems so obvious that it’s a bit hard to believe it’s real, isn’t it? And you’ve never heard anything about that woman from your mother?]

“Yes. Not at all.”

[If she was close enough to your mother to entrust her with your mother’s only treasure, there’s no way your mother wouldn’t have told you. She must have been a powerful person you could rely on to avoid your uncle.]

This was something Elaine had already had doubts about. When she heard that it was her mother’s letter, she couldn’t think much about it at the time, but now that she thought about it again, she definitely found it strange.

she was appalled that they would use her mother’s tragedy to deceive her.

“What on earth is that treasure that neither my uncle nor the Marquise of Hebron are so anxious to find?”

[….well, I guess it’s a valuable item. Anyway, it has nothing to do with you. Right?]

“That’s right. No matter how much they ask me questions, I don’t know anything.”

[So don’t worry too much.]

Rabes reassured Elaine in a light tone, but inside he was feeling complicated.

‘I don’t care about the others, but the dragon who controls the prince is the problem. If Elaine goes out of the temple without me, I don’t know what that dragon will do.’

If Rabes was by her side, he could even hide the magic flowing from Elaine’s body, but it was impossible for Elaine alone.

Elaine, who does not even know that she has a dragon’s magic core in her body, has no way of hiding the smell of magic power flowing from her body.

‘I was planning to get out of here once I’d checked the urns in the temple, but now that I know that the dragon has appeared, there is no place safer than here.’

Rabes hadn’t expected to be so grateful for the temple’s divine power barrier, which he had found annoying, but at least it would hide the magical power flowing from Elaine’s body.

‘However, it was impossible to keep Elaine here forever, so I have to find a safe place and take Elaine as soon as possible.’

  1. Nova says:

It would’ve been better if Rabes vaguely warned her about Abel, but I guess Elaine knowing that the letters were fake will help her be wary of the Sasha and Abel.
