Trapped in a Cursed Game, But Now with NPCs

TCGNPC | Chapter 5

“Ahhhh…!”

I screamed in a fit of rage.

⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋

Me: But it’s already been 24 hours?!

Me: People die if they go without eating or sleeping for 72 hours!
I’m going to die!

Me: Oh no! This bugged game is killing people now too!

[GM Ari] : People won’t just drop dead like that after 72 hours,
Shari! According to the Guinness Book of World Records, there are even
people who have fasted for over 70 days… (typing. . .)

  Me: Are you kidding me?

⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋

I couldn’t stand it any longer.

The reality of being trapped in this damn game for the rest of my life was enough to shatter the last of my sanity.

⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋

Me: Damn you, you incompetent developers!

Me: This is all because you idiots made a crappy game!

Me: Why do you even upgrade to another version? *$#^$%! ^#$%*!

[GM Ari] : Please calm down, Shari. Unfortunately, this is the only way
for now.
. Just trust and wait…

⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋

  Poof.

The strange white screen disappeared.

At some point, I just turned off the chat window in frustration, leaving behind a string of curses like the players who complained about missing rewards bug.

“Damn it. I shouldn’t have trusted those developers.”

Well, any normal game developer wouldn’t have created such a bug-infested game that required a 308th version upgrade.

I wasted two months waiting for that damn reply.

‘Now, what should I do?’

I glared at the useless bug reporting NPC, biting my lip.

I couldn’t afford to wait another two days as the Game Master suggested.

48 hours in the real world converts to four to five years in the game world.

‘Even if it’s not real time, how am I supposed to endure four years…?!’

The memories from the past two years, although fragmented, were horrible beyond imagination.

The thought of having to grind and live like that again made me shudder unintentionally.

“I can’t stay like this.”

I had to get out before I died.

Luckily, I knew the only remaining option.

Game over.

It was death.

You have failed to save the world and have died. Do you wish to return to your save point?

  RETURN / EXIT

When a character dies, this message appears along with the game exit window.

Sigh, I didn’t want to resort to this method…’

The reason I had gone through the trouble of reporting the bug and waiting for a long time was because of this.

Because when the game is over, all the items and coins accumulated so far are reset.

In other words, it meant that all the coins I had dishonestly accumulated would evaporate into thin air.

But since things had turned out this way because of those incompetent operators, there was no other choice.

‘It’s just in-game coins, not real money. I can gather them again.’

I decided to venture out into the field where monsters roamed and let myself get attacked.

“Kiieeek―!”

A nearby [Lv.4 Wild Boar] charged at me.

Simultaneously, a system message appeared with minor effects: ‘HP -1’

“Ouch.”

A sharp tusk slammed into my waist, but it didn’t cause much pain, just a slight tingling like a paper cut.

I nonchalantly looked down at my waist, which was bleeding from the gash the monster had made.

I could sense it with all my senses, but the game was just a game.

There was no way I would feel more than a certain amount of pain.

  [HP 999]

  [HP 997]

  [HP 996]

The other monsters, perhaps drawn by the smell of blood, joined forces to attack me, but the damage was not significant.

‘Is it because they’re only at a low level?’

However, since this area was near the starting point of the game, most of the monsters had low levels.

It would take a long time to travel to a place with higher-level monsters, as the ‘Teleport Scroll’ sold in the general shop only allowed movement within the territory.

So, I decided to stand still and let them attack me.

From early morning until now, I had been relentlessly attacked by a horde of monsters, and before I knew it, it had become nighttime.

  [HP 99]

Finally, my fully filled HP bar gradually started to decrease.

“I can finally leave now!”

Even though my robe was torn to shreds and my body was covered in wounds from the attacks, I was filled with joy.

That’s when it happened.

Danger! Your health is below 10%! You will be automatically summoned to the NPC’s area.

“Huh? What’s going on?”

Shhhhhh

The overgrown grassy field that was spread out in front of me vanished like a mirage…

And before I knew it, I found myself standing in a familiar alleyway.

You have arrived at [Dover Village].

“Crazy… what the hell is this?!”

This damn NPC character didn’t die.

.

.

.

“For God’s sake… This crazy game!”

Once again, I found myself in a familiar alley. Standing in front of the Apothecary, I screamed and punched the air in frustration as the passing AIs gave me strange looks.

After investing two days of my precious in-game time, I was attacked by a group of monsters and brought to the brink of death three times.

But I didn’t die.

Not only did I not die, but my torn robe and decreased HP returned to their original state as if it were all a lie.

Although I had worked as a game operator for quite a long time, I had no idea that NPC characters couldn’t die from monster attacks.

It was only natural since there was no need for them to die.

“Ha…”

Sigh.

I tore apart an ‘Teleport Scroll’ while taking a deep breath.

In an instant, the familiar alley disappeared, and I found myself in a different location.

I returned to the field full of monsters.

However, I wasn’t foolish enough to try again after failing three times.

Whoosh

As I watched the wind blow fiercely beneath the cliff, I quietly muttered.

“There’s no other choice now.”

If I jumped from a high place and died, my HP would be depleted instantly below 10%, and I wouldn’t be automatically summoned anymore.

It would have been better if I had tried this method from the beginning.

Unfortunately, there were hardly any tall buildings around here, so I hadn’t thought of it back then.

‘Maybe I’m just an idiot.’

Admitting it calmly, I looked down and took a deep breath.

Although I knew better than anyone that it’s just a game world, I felt a chill run down my spine as I looked down the black cliff.

“It’s okay! Even if I die, it won’t hurt…!”

Shouting like that, I threw myself off the cliff with all my might.

And then…

Boing!

“Ugh!”

As if there was an invisible wall beyond the cliff, I collided with something and was bounced back up onto the cliff.

“Ugh! Ow! Ack!”

After tumbling several times, I crashed miserably onto the ground, staring blankly at the sky.

The same clear, blue game sky greeted me.

“Ha, ha…”

I laughed in disbelief.

It was easy to understand why I couldn’t fall off the cliff and was bounced back up.

It was probably because of the restrictions of terrain limitations…

“Please…”

At this point, it felt like the entire universe… No, the entire damned game world was preventing me from escaping.

Why? It didn’t even hurt that much, but my eyes were getting teary.

Sniffling with frustration, I couldn’t hold it in any longer and blurted out a curse.

“Fucking…!”

That was the moment.

⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋

[GM Jinu] : Haha, you can’t fall because there’s no more map there.

[GM Jinu] : You should have gone to a mountain with a map.

⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋

Suddenly, a chat window appeared before me.

Although I was bewildered by the sudden phenomenon, I instantly thought that he was suggesting quite a good idea.

“…Oh, should I?”

⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋

  [GM Jinu] : LOL.

[GM Jinu] : Even if you do that, you can’t die anyway
because you’re an NPC. It’s useless.

⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋

As if it had heard my words, a new chat message appeared.

“…What?”

Unable to comprehend the unfolding situation, I sat up with a dumbfounded expression.

Then, chat messages started appearing one after another.

⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋⚋

[GM Sera] : Is this the place where someone is trapped without
being able to end the game? I, the Lord, have come to help.

[GM Ari] : Hello, Shari! Because it’s an emergency, we’ve gathered
the entire production team, and in a rush, we’ve integrated all
the regional server chats and created a chat window just for you!

    Thank you for the chapter.

Lol, all of the Devs have come together to laugh at this guy who’s probably going to die due to the game.

Honestly, I’m unsure how the developers are so incompetent that they can’t ban someone but at the same time integrated all the server chats in game. They can actively change things in-game but can’t disconnect a player. If this isn’t the work of somekind of divine being, I am starting to suspect that our NPC’s body is dead or disconnected and they are now some kind of cyberghost.

And now all the devs are trying to prevent him from hitting the ground in case it actually kills what remains.

Poor Shari. She’s doomed. I wonder if these new GMs will include any that she recognizes. If not, then I’m sure we’re not in Kansas anymore. But–the genre is tagged as romance and the tone doesn’t fit the kind of tragedy where she’d have to choose between staying in a game with an AI or going back to Earth–unless her love interest is a player. Judging by the summary, her love interest is the Protagonist, the Lord of Nightmares, who players are supposed to help beat the game. Unless he’s not her partner…OwO that’d be fun.
