The Witch Is Too Busy to Hide Her Identity 6

TWTBHI

Chapter 6

When Gremory regained consciousness, she found herself wearing the same maid uniform as Bellita.

All the bandages that had been wrapped around her body were completely removed. She had applied some force while treating her leg, which had miraculously healed the rest of her wounds as well.

Cession Edel crossed his arms and examined Gremory’s condition.

“Hmm. How did you recover so quickly? Was it because of the meat you were fed, coming from the northern snow tribes?”

“I think so! Can I have Mori work with me in the laundry room?” Bellita beamed, holding Gremory’s left arm. The moment Gremory was demoted from “Lady Mori” to just “Mori,” she felt oddly upset.

Moreover, Bellita had been kind to her all this time simply to make her work.

“What was I even expecting?” Gremory thought.

“Hmm. The laundry room isn’t bad, but it would be good for Mori to personally check around and make her choice. For now, follow the head maid today and observe the atmosphere.”

The middle-aged head maid appeared with a smile. Gremory pouted her lower lip and followed the head maid.

“Do I really have to do housework? Me? Gremory?”

She would rather be sent to the battlefield to kill all the enemies or spread a plague at the imperial prince’s house.

Housework? Even in the demon realm, where she had held high positions, she never had to do laundry, cleaning, or serve snacks.

“Damn, I have no choice.”

Gremory closed her eyes in resignation. Her goal was to live quietly, like dust, in this household. Maid status was like being part of the house or even just an object. If she became a maid, she could avoid the eyes of other witches. Plus, how hard could human housework be?

…However, Gremory quickly changed her mind.

“Goodness, Mori. ‘Laundry’ means wetting the clothes and rubbing soap on them. Wait, why are you trying to eat the soap?”

“I thought you’d be good at hard work being from the northern snow tribes, but you’re like a princess! Oh my, the frying pan is hot! Don’t touch it! …Please don’t tell me you’re asking what a frying pan is, are you?”

“Don’t tell me you don’t know what a broom is…?”

Human tasks were more complicated and difficult than expected. They looked simple but drained her energy. She wanted to use magic to solve it, but there was no magic for household chores. In the ruined demon realm, all the menial tasks were left to slaves.

The head maid’s face grew darker. She realized that there was no task she could give to Mori.

“What should I do with this child…?”

Gremory limped along carelessly. The head maid sighed deeply and muttered, “What a terrible princess.”

Passing by, Cession Edel laughed and approached.

“Looks like Mori grew up completely like a princess.”

“…”

“In that case, you would be better suited to being a chambermaid than a maid. How about becoming my chambermaid?”

“?”

The head maid, who had been listening from the side, suddenly jumped up.

“Are you sure about this? If she becomes a chambermaid, she will have to learn everything from Lady Isolen, and you know Isolen’s personality, right?”

“I know. I think Mori will get along very well with her.”

“I think it will be the complete opposite.”

“Let’s give it a few days. If it doesn’t work out, we can always find another department.”

“I… I don’t know. Do as you wish, Your Highness.”

The head maid left, looking displeased.

Who’s Isolen? Gremory asked Cession Edel with her gaze. Cession Edel smiled gently.

“Isolen is my only personal chambermaid. She’s from the Count Sien’s family. Honestly, one chambermaid is enough for me, but if you two work together, there will be more freedom, and both you and Isolen can enjoy a noble lifestyle to some extent.”

“…”

“First, let’s change your clothes. As a chambermaid, you should wear something a bit more refined.”

Later on:

With Bellita’s help, Gremory changed into a dress. While Bellita was helping her, Gremory scribbled in her notebook.

“What’s the difference between a maid and a chambermaid? Why am I wearing a dress?”

“Well, in terms of rank, a chambermaid is much higher than a maid! Chambermaids are usually of noble birth and wear dresses to maintain their noble dignity. Becoming a chambermaid is an honor. Congratulations on becoming a lady again, Lady Mori!”

“But why a yellow dress? Don’t you have anything black?”

“Black is only for mourning. Now, put the notebook down and just stay still.”

After changing, Gremory stood in front of the mirror, disgusted. She walked out of the dressing room and headed toward Cession Edel’s office.

Before opening the door, Gremory paused. She could hear a conversation from inside.

Cession Edel’s voice and that of a woman she hadn’t heard before alternated. It sounded like Isolen’s voice.

“Am I really that lacking? That you need to hire a new chambermaid?”

“Why are you acting like this? I didn’t say I’d replace you with a new chambermaid.”

“Didn’t you say before, Your Highness? A chambermaid is enough.”

“Yes, but I wanted to give you some extra freedom. You’ve been working so hard alone.”

“I don’t need extra freedom. I just want to be by Your Highness’s side. Alone.”

So, Gremory had unknowingly become Isolen’s rival.

She snorted and burst through the door. Isolen’s green eyes widened in surprise as they locked onto Gremory. Her eyes were red, as though she had been on the verge of tears.

And that Isolen…

She had black hair.

Clearly, she had been hunted as a witch, saved by Cession Edel, and had fallen for him, deciding to become his chambermaid.

“I won’t teach that woman anything,” Gremory thought.

Isolen, with an odd temper, brushed past Gremory’s shoulder and stormed out of the office.

Cession Edel rubbed his face, looking exhausted.

“Ugh… I didn’t expect her to react like this. Mori, I’m sorry. I thought you two would get along, since you both have bad tempers, but I was wrong.”

“…”

“When I first brought Isolen in, she was just like you. Anyway… huh? Mori? Where are you going?”

Gremory left the office and chased after Isolen. Feeling Gremory’s presence, Isolen walked faster, but then suddenly stopped and shouted over her shoulder.

“Don’t think you can easily covet the position I worked so hard for. No matter what you say, I won’t accept you as a colleague. Just stay in the lounge and sulk.”

Gremory nodded. That’s exactly what I want, you temperamental black-haired woman. You do all the work. I’ll just relax in the lounge.

Seeing Gremory’s sudden compliance, Isolen seemed taken aback.

“…You really will just stay in the lounge?”

Gremory took out her notebook and wrote down:

“You do all the work. The lounge is mine.”

“…”

Isolen’s expression twisted. She felt like she was losing out, especially since the work of a chambermaid was honestly quite demanding. She had always wished there was another chambermaid, but she hadn’t expected someone like Mori to show up.

“No changing your mind later. You wanted this.”

As Gremory stretched and prepared to leave, Isolen grabbed her shoulder.

“Wait.”

“?”

“I’ll teach you how to organize leftover documents. Just stay in the lounge and do that.”

Shaking her head, Gremory left with a swaying step.

The lounge, supposedly where the chambermaids lived, was spacious and luxurious. It had a fresh atmosphere with a white background and green accents. But soon, it would turn dark, gloomy, and red.

As she was clearing away the silver candlesticks, Isolen appeared, looking displeased, with a pile of documents in her hands.

“Don’t touch my things. This is a shared space, so don’t change the décor. Put the candlesticks down and sit here.”

The two chambermaids sat at the table. Isolen placed the complicated documents in front of Gremory and began explaining. For Gremory, who wasn’t accustomed to human affairs, the contents of the documents felt like a code.

Isolen didn’t care whether Gremory understood or not. She just talked and got up.

“You should be able to handle something this simple, right?”

Gremory crossed her legs, propped her chin on her hand, and pouted her lips. It was a clear sign she wasn’t going to do it. Isolen smirked.

“Do you know what happens to useless black-haired women in this mansion?”

“?”

“They get tossed out with dye and sent outside.”

“!”
