Ming Zhao fixed his gaze on Nangong Mian and said, “Amian, you understand this better than I do.”
Nangong Mian tried to respond, but his voice failed him.
Ming Zhao sighed and continued, “Your sister had no spiritual roots, and she was physically weak, incapable of practicing martial arts. Yet, after falling into the water, she gained immense strength and even developed medical skills. Isn’t that peculiar? In most cases, if both parents have spiritual roots, their children should inherit them. It’s rare for parents with spiritual roots to have children without them.”
Nangong Mian didn’t provide a direct response to Ming Zhao’s inquiry. Instead, he brought up another point, saying, ” In most cases, if both parents have spiritual roots, their children should inherit them. It’s rare for parents with spiritual roots to have children without them.
“My father and mother have spiritual roots, my elder brother and second brother have spiritual roots, I have spiritual roots, but Huang Quan doesn’t. If we’re discussing oddities, isn’t this one too?”
He continued, “Regarding Quanquan’s health, my elder brother, second brother, and I were all born healthy with no complications. When my mother was pregnant with Quanquan, she already had experience from giving birth to three children. She should have known better about what to avoid during pregnancy. Yet, Quanquan was born weak, and despite consulting numerous doctors, the reason remained elusive. Isn’t that strange?”
Nangong Mian raised his gaze to meet Ming Zhao’s eyes. “Teacher, I understand that many of you find Quanquan’s transformation to be unusual, but in my view, there’s nothing odd about it. Regardless of any changes, she is still Huangquan, my sister, and the young lady of the Nangong family. That’s all that matters.”
Ming Zhao understood that Nangong Mian was fiercely protective of his sister, and once again, he found himself speechless in the face of such loyalty.
Nangong Mian’s immediate concern shifted to the consequences of Quanquan killing the Prime Minister. “Did the royal family react to Quanquan’s actions? I’m not worried about anything else right now, but I’m concerned about Qin Yang.”
Ming Zhao explained, “The Dean spoke to His Majesty about sending your sister to participate in the Tianqi Empire competition. I don’t know what the Dean said, but he made it clear to His Majesty that the matter would not be pursued further. The royal family has chosen not to intervene, and you can breathe a sigh of relief.”
“Nangong Mian, you don’t need to worry about this,” Ming Zhao assured him. “The fact that the dean was able to intervene and advise His Majesty not to pursue the case means the dean has made a firm decision to protect your sister. As long as the dean takes action, we’ve resolved to handle whatever challenges Qin Yang may bring here. You know that our dean isn’t one to be trifled with, so there’s no need to worry.”
Nangong Mian expressed his gratitude, saying, “Thank you. I’ll see the dean tomorrow.”
“Of course,” Ming Zhao replied. “I haven’t given the dean all the details about your ordeal yet, so I’ll do that now. Since you’re fine, return to your quarters and rest. I’ll continue to investigate the poisoning and do my best to find the responsible party.”
Nangong Mian expressed his gratitude once more, and Ming Zhao added, “You’re my student, and you were almost killed. As your teacher, it’s my duty to make every effort to find the culprit. You don’t need to thank me.” With these parting words, he left the room.
Not long after Ming Zhao’s departure, Huang Quan returned.
Seeing her just coming back, Nangong Mian greeted her with a smile, “Were you waiting outside?”
“Yeah,” Huang Quan replied, moving closer. “I need to return to your quarters to prepare the porridge. I don’t feel comfortable with you being here alone.”
Nangong Mian smiled and got up to head for the door. “Then I’ll go back.”
Seeing this, Huang Quan followed, smiling as well.
As they walked back, Nangong Mian began to speak about Qin Yang, but before he could elaborate, Huang Quan reassured him, saying, “Don’t worry about him, third brother. He can’t do anything to me.”
Nangong Mian pondered this, thinking of her unique spiritual power, and a sense of relief washed over him. “Really?”
Huang Quan nodded confidently. “Absolutely.”
“If that’s the case, then I won’t worry,” Nangong Mian said warmly. “Quanquan, I’m truly delighted to see you becoming stronger.”
