Moreover, even when activated, only Huang Quan and a few special people could see those souls!
Seeing the souls, Chong Yu wanted to move, but Huang Quan stopped him.
“They’re very powerful!” Chong Yu became anxious when Huang Quan blocked him.
Huang Quan’s eyes were cold as she looked at the ghostly figures. “I said I would keep you safe.”
Chong Yu was stunned and couldn’t find the words to respond.
Huang Quan shielded Chong Yu behind her, her eyes turning pitch black in an instant. Looking at the ferocious ghosts rushing towards them, she smirked with a bloodthirsty grin. “I want to see who dares to harm him!”
At her words, all the ferocious souls abruptly halted, their faces filled with fear, and they began to retreat!
The Great Priest was bewildered, while Chong Yu was shocked, as if they were in different worlds.
Huang Quan gazed at the hovering souls in the sky. “If you aren’t afraid of being completely obliterated, you can make a move right now.”
“But I assure you, the moment you make a move, I will annihilate you, making you disappear forever.”
“Who are you?”
“We are ordered to stop him. Why are you interfering?”
Huang Quan sneered. “You take orders from someone; I don’t have to listen to them. Why shouldn’t I interfere?”
A soul shouted angrily, “Do you know who is behind us?”
“I don’t. Why don’t you tell me?” Huang Quan looked at the souls, her tone mocking.
The souls glared at Huang Quan, infuriated but not daring to approach her, let alone fight her. They could only argue, “You mortals better not interfere with our business. The one behind us is someone you cannot afford to offend!”
Mortals?
Huang Quan smirked. “You look down on mortals so much, then let this mortal send you on your way.”
“Oh, wait.” Huang Quan chuckled, “You’ve already been sent on a journey once before. That path wasn’t a dead end, but this time, I’ll send you on a true dead-end path.”
As she finished speaking, Huang Quan lightly tapped the ground with her toe. In the next moment, a blood-red formation appeared beneath her feet!
Once the formation emerged, its eerie red glow instantly enveloped the entire area, pressing down on the souls in midair and forcing them into the formation.
“This formation is called the Soul Devourer.” Huang Quan looked at the souls being forced into the formation, smiling as she asked, “Do you know what ‘Soul Devourer’ means?”
The souls understood the meaning immediately, and they became visibly weaker from fear.
“You will be consumed by this formation and disappear forever.”
As Huang Quan’s words fell, the Soul Devourer formation began to shine even more intensely, and the souls within the formation felt an immensely strong suction force!
In almost an instant, the souls became terrified.
The formation was devouring them, truly devouring them!
Huang Quan stood in the center of the formation, watching their struggles, her pitch-black eyes devoid of any warmth.
The Soul Devourer formation made the souls visible to ordinary people, leaving the Great Priest utterly bewildered by the situation.
Chong Yu, on the other hand, grabbed Huang Quan’s hand urgently and said, “No, you can’t let them disappear. They… they are part of the tower’s setup. If something happens to them, something will happen to A’Mian too!”
Upon hearing this, Huang Quan sighed internally.
She had no choice but to stop for now.
Not for Rong Mian, but for her brother.
The Soul Devourer formation stopped, but the souls within it didn’t immediately flee. Each one lay in a disheveled heap within the formation, too weak to even stand, let alone escape right away.
Huang Quan looked at them and said, “Get out.”
With those two words, some of the souls began to get up and leave.
One by one, the souls in the Soul Devourer formation struggled to their feet and fled, not daring to utter a single word.
Huang Quan didn’t watch them escape. She raised her hand and dismissed the Soul Devourer formation.
As soon as the formation disappeared, the souls vanished from the Great Priest’s sight. However, having seen them, the Great Priest couldn’t pretend he hadn’t. He was utterly bewildered.
“Huang Quan, they…”
Huang Quan turned to him and said, “Great Priest, if you can’t accept it, don’t think about it or ask too many questions.”
“But…”
“This only happens here,” Huang Quan said. “Rest assured, you won’t see them once we leave this place.”
The Great Priest listened and quietly looked at Huang Quan. Ultimately, he said nothing more.
This kind of thing couldn’t be easily explained, especially to someone who usually couldn’t see such things.
Huang Quan looked at Chong Yu and said, “Let’s go. There won’t be any more souls attacking you this time.”
Chong Yu replied, “Th-thank you.”
Those souls were indeed set by the tower. They must not have been strong before their deaths; otherwise, a soulless Chong Yu wouldn’t have stood a chance against them, let alone escaped from them.
Even so, Chong Yu had suffered a lot at the hands of those souls over the years.
For the first time, he could enter the city without being cautious, without fighting those souls along the way, without getting hurt!
After thanking her, they quickly headed toward the city.
No one spoke along the way.
Chong Yu had difficulty speaking, Huang Quan had nothing to say, and the Great Priest was too shocked by the earlier scene to utter a word.
Thus, in silence, they returned to the front of the tower.
In front of the tower where the crowd had gathered, there was a barrier. Inside the barrier, Fuxin sat nearby, facing the disciples of the Buddhist sect and some others. The Buddhist disciples must have said something because the others had expressions of deep resentment and furrowed brows.
Fuxin continued to look ahead. When he saw Huang Quan and the others return, he raised his head slightly and said to the crowd, “The discussion on Buddhist teachings is over.” With that, Fuxin stood up and removed the barrier.
Hearing that the discussion was over, the crowd visibly relaxed.
“Is this the reason for your departure?” Fuxin walked up to Huang Quan, glanced at Chong Yu, and asked with a smile.
“Yes.” Huang Quan knew that Fuxin was not easily deceived, so she didn’t lie and simply responded with a nod.
“Great Priest, who is this?” someone asked. “Where did you bring this person from?”
Seeing Huang Quan and the others return with someone, the crowd turned their attention to them, each person scrutinizing Chong Yu with a probing gaze.
Huang Quan’s gaze turned cold as she swept over them. “This is my brother. Why are you asking so many questions? Are you planning to do something to him?”
Brother?
The crowd was initially stunned but then quickly understood.
Huang Quan had a brother named Nangong Mian, who was now the Great Priest’s disciple. The Great Priest had indeed brought him on this expedition to the ruins. When they hadn’t seen him before, they thought something had happened to him. But it seemed he just hadn’t been with them.
Wait!
Something still seemed off to someone. They looked suspiciously at Chong Yu standing behind Huang Quan and asked, “Miss Nangong, is he really your brother?”
