Chapter 251: You’ll Take Us All Down

Jing Chen pressed his lips together, not responding further.

He couldn’t argue with that.

Seeing that Jing Chen hadn’t put the Dragon Chant Zither away after hearing him out, Feng Jiuyuan knew Jing Chen was determined to go. He felt a headache coming on.

When he lectured him, it was all reasoned out, saying it was for his own good. Wasn’t what Feng Jiuyuan just said for his good too? Why wouldn’t he listen?

“Jing Chen, stay here,” the High Priest ordered, then turned to Nangong Qingle. “Summon vines, as many as you can, and weave them into a shield to block those arrows!”

Nangong Qingle nodded and immediately began forming seals, summoning vines.

Thick vines, as thick as a baby’s arm, emerged from the ground and quickly spread out in all directions.

When the arrows hit the vines, they stuck in place instead of piercing through as they had with the barrier.

Seeing that the vines could block the arrows, the other people with wood-element spiritual roots also summoned vines, using them to block the arrows.

However, summoning the vines consumed spiritual energy, and with so many arrows, it was impossible for the vines to block all of them. Although everyone was still struggling, they were less panicked than before.

Jing Chen, holding the Dragon Chant Zither, pushed off with his toes, leaping onto a vine, and continued upward, clearly intending to charge out.

“Find a place to put me down,” Jing Chen suggested. “With you holding me this close, when I play the Dragon Chant Zither, you’ll definitely be severely injured.”

“A severe injury is better than you recklessly dying here!” Feng Jiuyuan snapped, his voice strained. “Do it, quickly!”

Sensing something wrong in Feng Jiuyuan’s tone, Jing Chen looked up, trying to see his face, but could only catch a glimpse of his jaw.

“Jing Chen, if you don’t move now, I swear I’ll drop you right here!” Feng Jiuyuan threatened.

Jing Chen pursed his lips, said no more, and positioned the zither, channeling his spiritual power before fiercely strumming the strings.

As the zither’s sound reverberated, Feng Jiuyuan felt a surge of blood in his chest and couldn’t suppress it—he coughed up a mouthful of blood.

“Feng Jiuyuan…” Jing Chen’s voice trembled with worry, his fingers slightly shaking as he strummed the strings.

“Keep going!” Feng Jiuyuan gritted his teeth. “Once isn’t enough. Do it again!”

One more time, and the remaining enemies could be dealt with by Huang Quan and Fohsin.

Jing Chen responded, “Alright!”

Without hesitation, he strummed the zither again, and the sound spread instantly.

The soldiers atop the high walls, hearing the zither’s melody for the second time, collapsed one by one.

“Jing Chen, you…” Feng Jiuyuan tried to tighten his grip but was too weak. He released his hold, and Jing Chen plummeted downwards. Simultaneously, the wings on Feng Jiuyuan’s back disappeared, and he too fell, like a kite with a broken string.

Huang Quan, in the midst of kicking away a group of enemies, looked up just in time to see Feng Jiuyuan and Jing Chen falling from the sky.

Without a second thought, Huang Quan stopped attacking the soldiers and quickly moved to catch Jing Chen. In one swift motion, he grabbed Jing Chen and then leaped up again to catch Feng Jiuyuan, who was falling behind him.

After securing both of them, Huang Quan descended rapidly and dropped them into the midst of the Jiuyuan City team. “Take care of your young master!” he ordered.

Thanks to the vines blocking most of the arrows and the earlier attacks from Huang Quan, Fohsin, and Jing Chen, the barrage of arrows had lessened significantly, making it easier for the Jiuyuan City team to defend themselves. When Huang Quan placed Feng Jiuyuan down, several members of the Jiuyuan City team immediately surrounded him.

“Young Master?”

“Young Master, are you okay?”

Feng Jiuyuan lay on the ground, his eyes reflecting the dark sky and the arrows raining down. He waved his hand weakly and said, “Don’t worry about me, check on Jing Chen…”

“I’m fine,” Jing Chen said as he put away the Dragon Chant Zither. He then took out a porcelain bottle from his storage space and handed it to one of the people tending to Feng Jiuyuan. “Give this to him.”

“You take it yourself,” Feng Jiuyuan replied. “I have the bloodline of the Demon Tribe. Your medicine won’t work well on me; I’ve prepared my own.”

Jing Chen frowned slightly. “Did you really prepare some?”

“Of course,” Feng Jiuyuan tilted his head and smiled at him. “Traveling without something to protect my life? That’s not how I roll.”

Satisfied with the answer, Jing Chen relaxed, opened the porcelain bottle, and took the medicine inside.

Seeing him take the medicine, Feng Jiuyuan said, “Jing Chen, I want to discuss something with you.”
