TVWRL Chapter 59
Ilias moved so quickly that his feet barely touched the ground while facing multiple assassins at once.
Some of the assassins who were fighting alongside him broke away from the group. Ilias attempted to stop them, but he was almost surrounded and couldn’t easily break free.
The ones who broke away seemed to be searching the room for me.
At that moment, I saw feet approaching near the bed.
‘If I had known this would happen, I should have learned some swordsmanship sooner… If I survive today, I will definitely learn self-defense.’
I only knew how to fight with my mouth; I didn’t know how to fight physically.
I was so tense that cold sweat broke out from my hands. My heart raced as if it would leap out of my mouth.
‘What should I do?’
It was a brief moment, but my mouth felt dry, and my insides burned with anxiety.
I didn’t want to just hide behind Ilias and watch. I wanted to contribute, even in a small way.
‘What can I do right now?’
As I contemplated, I decided to at least try to poke someone in the eyes, spreading my trembling hand and waiting for the enemy. I was nervous but really wanted to succeed.
Just then, when I made eye contact with an assassin who was lowering his head to look under the bed, I extended my finger toward his eyes without hesitation.
It felt strange, but I didn’t hesitate.
“Ahhh!”
As the assassin fell, my body was dragged out. The other assassins who were searching elsewhere pulled me out from under the bed.
Once I was pulled out, the scene in the room came into view.
Three assassins were already lying on the floor, and blood was everywhere. The thick smell of blood filled the room.
“Now put down the sword, Prince Ilias. Are you going to kill your bride on your first night?”
The enemy mocked him as if he had gained the upper hand by taking me hostage.
“If you obediently offer your neck, I’ll spare the woman.”
In the meantime, one more person fell. The assassin frowned.
Ilias, covered in bright red blood, looked at the assassin who was holding me hostage with a disgusted expression.
He shook the blood off his sword and curled one corner of his mouth upward in a sneer.
The suffocating atmosphere was different from what I knew of Ilias, and I trembled slightly. This was not the Ilias I was familiar with.
Was it strange that I felt more afraid of Ilias, who was on my side, than the assassin threatening me?
The grip of the assassin holding me tightened. Only then did my mind return to reality.
I didn’t want to be his burden so helplessly. There were already some who had fallen, so if it wasn’t for me, Ilias could somehow solve it alone.
Although he was covered in blood, it didn’t seem like any of it was his own. And if he got hurt, I could save him.
As those thoughts crossed my mind, my fear began to diminish. I shouted out loud.
“Ilias, keep fighting… Ahhh!”
Before I could finish my sentence, the assassin grabbed my hair.
At my scream, Ilias immediately threw his sword to the ground without hesitation. The assassins nearby forced him to kneel.
Though he was on his knees, his gaze remained strong. Ilias asked quietly, without resisting.
“Who sent you?”
The assassins snickered and mocked him.
“You’re going to die anyway, so what’s the point of knowing? It’ll all be useless once you’re dead. If you’re really curious, go find out in the afterlife.”
I was angry at how they treated Ilias so rudely. If it weren’t for me, he wouldn’t have had to drop his sword. I felt so sorry.
Unlike me, who was feeling intense emotional changes, Ilias appeared calm.
“I would like my wife to be spared. Isn’t it unfair for her to die just because she married me? What is the exact order? Is it just me who is to die? Or are both of us to be killed?”
“Well…”
Of course, I didn’t want to become a widow on my wedding night, nor did I want to die.
As I pondered how I could help Ilias, the thought of divine power came to mind.
Surely, Paulian had mentioned that it could be used for offense as well as for healing.
‘How do I do that? If I send the divine power carelessly, it might just improve the assassin’s condition.’
I had to be cautious. If I made a mistake here, both he and I would be dead.
Can divine power contain a will to live? Or should I send it with malicious intent?
As I was lost in this unresolvable dilemma, I heard him say,
“Lin, don’t move.”
Before I could fully comprehend his words, something happened. Ilias pulled out a dagger and threw it at the assassin holding me.
The dagger struck the assassin’s thigh with pinpoint accuracy.
“Ahhh!”
Though his action was flawless, I felt like I aged ten years standing beside him. If he had thrown it just a bit off, it would have struck me in the waist.
There was no time to think. Seizing the opportunity, I quickly moved, dodging the assassin’s hand and leaping into Ilias’s embrace.
He wrapped one arm around me and patted my back.
In that moment, the adrenaline that had been surging through me and my racing heart seemed to stop. Just feeling his body heat was enough to reassure me.
He whispered in my ear so that only I could hear.
“I’ll hold them off, so run towards the door.”
Ilias, picking up the sword in front of him, spoke in his usual tone.
“Lin, can you hold on for a little longer?”
“Yes. I’ll hold on. Don’t worry.”
As he swung the sword to cover me, I dashed toward the door. When I turned the doorknob, it wouldn’t open. It was clearly locked from the outside.
‘How could they lock it from the outside? Did they know the assassin was coming?’
Lost in shock, his voice snapped me back to reality.
“Lin!”
Seeing the assassin charging at me made my heart race. At that moment, I noticed the wine bottle I had been drinking from earlier. I grabbed the wine bottle and smashed it against the wall.
Crash!
The loud noise drew the attention of the assassins. They seemed a bit surprised by my action.
I swung the broken glass bottle indiscriminately at the approaching enemies.
The assassins approached without hesitation, thinking I would only swing it and not stab.
They didn’t directly use their swords against me. It seemed there was no order to kill me.
“I really don’t want to do this.”
I muttered softly and reached out without hesitation. The broken glass bottle stabbed into the thigh of one of the assassins.
Before the wounded assassin could raise his sword, Ilias’s sword was faster. He stepped in front of me and swung his sword mercilessly.
Before I knew it, he had taken care of all the assassins.
“Lin, are you okay?”
I was trembling, but I held onto the glass bottle tightly. Ilias gently took my hand and made me let go of the bottle.
“It’s okay. It’s all over. You did well. You held on.”
He embraced me with one arm and spoke soothingly as he pushed the glass bottle away.
Only then did I feel my tension release, and as my legs weakened and I was about to collapse, his arm tightly wrapped around my waist.
“Adeline!”
He lifted me up, and I rested my head against Ilias’s chest.
“Are you okay?”
“Yes. I’m managing.”
Ilias slipped his hands under my shoulders and behind my knees to carry me.
He carried me to the cleanest part of the bloody space and set me down. I leaned against the wall, relieved.
My heart was still racing uncontrollably.
Ilias handed me some water. Not realizing how thirsty I was, I drank it all in one go.
As the cool water refreshed me, my senses returned.
I asked the question that was weighing on my mind.
“Ilias.”
“Yes, Lin.”
“Can I ask you something?”
“Of course.”
I looked at him with a troubled heart.
“With all this commotion, how is it that no one has come in? Did my screams not carry through that thin door?”
Ilias shook his head, looking even more troubled than I was.
“Because there’s no one from my side in the palace.”
“How could this happen? In the palace, where it should be the safest. In our room.”
“This is my life. That’s why I didn’t want to involve you. I’m sorry. I wanted to protect you.”
I was angry, wondering who was apologizing to whom. I bit my lip, trying to hold back my anger.
After a while, I asked again.
“You seemed used to it. Does this happen often?”
“Sometimes.”
“What about Sir Zion?”
“He’s probably been called somewhere. He’ll come running at dawn. Right now, Zion is probably the most anxious person.”
Tears welled up in my eyes for Ilias.
I bit the soft flesh inside my mouth to hold back my tears and took a deep breath to calm myself.
Only after I had calmed down a bit could I look at Ilias.
He was covered in blood. Suddenly worried, I asked urgently.
“Are you hurt anywhere?”
“I think I hurt my back a little, but I’m fine. Aren’t you hurt, Lin?”
“I’m not hurt. I was just startled.”
I moved in front of Ilias and began to unbutton his pajamas.
“Adeline!”
His surprise at my sudden action made him look flustered, as if he hadn’t just faced a dozen assassins moments ago.
“Stay still. Let me see your wounds; turn around.”
“I’m fine. I’ll apply medicine when Zion arrives.”
For a moment, I couldn’t tell if Ilias’s nape was red because it was flushed or because of the blood.
However, such thoughts didn’t last long. His wounds were more severe than I had thought.
His back was deeply punctured, and there was a lot of blood.
“How have you been enduring this injury?”
I shouted, upset, and placed my hand on his back, channeling my divine power. I was able to control my strength, so instead of using it explosively like before, I sent just the right amount, flowing like water.
As the wound began to heal, Ilias looked at me in surprise.
“I have some power, you know. I wasn’t a candidate for the saintess for nothing.”
“If a wound can disappear like this… come to think of it, before…”
Ilias didn’t say any more, but his gaze at me was meaningful.
It was awkward to explain the details, so I smiled sheepishly.
Atthat moment, Ilias gently brushed my bloodied hand.
“I didn’t want to get your hands dirty, but you got blood on them instead.”
