TVWRL Chapter 58
“Listen up.”
“Pardon?”
“The pajamas. Is it the rule in the palace to make someone repeat everything twice?”
“I’m sorry.”
Following the head maid’s instructions, the maids stood before me holding the pajamas. Perhaps because it was the first night, the pajamas were quite extravagant.
‘We’re not even a real couple, just a contractual one. How can I meet him wearing something like that?’
The palace felt more like a company to me than a home. The pajamas in front of me were far too ridiculous to wear to a workplace.
However, having once made a name for myself as a villainess, I couldn’t show any signs of discomfort.
I simply thought to myself that if I wore those, I would be embarrassed for generations to come.
Of course, if we were truly lovers, I would cheerfully wear them, but we were in a business relationship. Who conducts business wearing such half-finished clothing?
‘They emphasized dignity, elegance, and sophistication, yet they want me to wear something like that at night? This isn’t even a brothel; the palace seems secretive and peculiar.’
The people who had seemed perfectly normal now appeared duplicitous.
Suddenly, a thought crossed my mind: Do royalty really wear such pajamas? Perhaps these outfits were prepared to make a fool of me.
‘Is this how it’s going to be from the start?’
In that case, I needed to respond sincerely.
“I can’t tell just by looking. You all should wear them and explain the pros and cons of the outfits.”
“Excuse me?”
I could see the head maid and the maids turning pale.
“If you’re trying to make me wear something like that, then you should experience it too. Don’t you know?”
The maids stood in place, not moving at all.
“Are you ignoring my command?”
“Oh, no, it’s not that. How could we dare to wear the clothes of Your Highness, the Princess?”
“I have permitted it, so it’s fine. You won’t be punished for this matter.”
The maids exchanged awkward glances.
“Head maid.”
“Yes, Your Highness.”
“Send the kids in front of me to another palace.”
“Excuse me? Your Highness, what do you mean by that?”
I looked at the head maid and the maids with a sharp gaze.
“I don’t want to keep those who have defied my orders close to me. I have no need for arrogant maids. I will only have those who are loyal and obedient by my side.”
The maids knelt and begged for forgiveness.
“We were wrong.”
“Please forgive us.”
“We won’t do it again.”
I looked at them impassively.
“As I mentioned earlier, is it the rule in the palace to make someone repeat themselves? I need to re-educate these maids.”
When the maids looked at the head maid, she shook her head.
In the end, the maids stood up and went outside, and new maids entered.
The newly arrived maids quickly changed into pajamas and stood before me, looking distressed.
“Is there trouble at home? If so, you may return home.”
In the end, the three maids who entered second also went outside. The next group of maids awkwardly raised the corners of their mouths and stood before me.
I threw a puzzled glance at the head maid.
“Is there something you need, Your Highness?”
“Why aren’t you changing? Are you trying to judge along with me? Are the head maid and the princess on the same level in the palace?”
The head maid’s complexion turned pale. She was a close aide to Empress Sierra and wielded immense power in the prince’s palace.
“If you’re not going to wear it, then you don’t need to come from tomorrow. There are plenty of people who can take your place.”
“Oh, no, that’s not it.”
The head maid, with trembling hands, took the pajamas and went to the changing room.
A moment later, she emerged with an expression as if she had lost her world.
Thinking that they had tried to make me wear such clothing while showing such a reaction themselves made me even more indignant.
According to Madam Hyacinth, there were no outrageous designs in the empire.
So it was clear that those outfits were personally brought in by Sierra at great expense from abroad.
Just to humiliate me.
If I wore those clothes, rumors would certainly spread in high society about the commoner princess wearing something so ridiculous on her first night.
I concealed my boiling emotions and began the pajama review elegantly.
“I don’t like the length of this one.”
“The color of this one is not good.”
“I prefer textures that cling to the body. This one is too stiff.”
As I rejected all the pajamas they had prepared, the maids’ eyes trembled. It meant they would have to change again.
“Is this all you have prepared? This is too lacking in effort. Did you just get the head maid position by working for a long time? If you want to work by my side, you need to show your skills. I prefer those who excel over those who merely endure.”
“Oh, no. I have more prepared.”
They moved busily and brought in a clothes rack filled with pajamas. I was taken aback by the countless revealing nightgowns but did not show it.
‘They’ve prepared quite a lot, thoroughly.’
To expedite the process, I called in more maids to help change the clothes. I continued the serious evaluations.
“Our sensibilities are a bit different.”
“I don’t feel the designer’s passion.”
“The floral patterns lack vitality.”
“The colors are gloomy, not suitable for the first night.”
After making all sorts of excuses, the scheming pajamas finally ended, and a simple one-piece nightgown was presented.
Everyone in the room, including me, looked exhausted. I felt this should be enough.
Choosing pajamas now would be the right moment for the maids to feel grateful.
If I had chosen a bit faster, they would still have the energy to curse me. Right now, they would be relieved just to escape this situation.
I expressed my irritation with a tired expression and said, “Enough. I’ll just wear that now.”
I could clearly see the relief on the maids’ faces. However, I had no intention of letting them off easily.
“All the kids who wore my pajamas today will be sent out from the prince’s palace.”
“Excuse me? Your Highness, what do you mean? Didn’t you allow us to wear pajamas?”
“Of course, I intended to. But if I let this go this time, I feel like Her Majesty the Empress will be angry with my etiquette. I don’t want to disappoint Her Majesty.”
Like anyone else, you must have kept your cherished aides close. I’ll make sure your hands and feet are dealt with promptly.
“Still, if you change your words so easily…”
I shot a cold glance at the head maid.
“Are you trying to teach me right now?”
“That’s not it…”
“If that’s not it, then what is it?”
“If you act like this, your subordinates won’t be able to be loyal. Orders need context.”
I approached the head maid and said,
“Oh! It seems you don’t know me well. If you don’t know, you can learn now. However, not knowing about those you should serve is a dereliction of duty.”
She kept backing away from me until she hit the wall.
“And I naturally have a personality that lacks context. You all need to adapt. I don’t think I can adjust.”
“I will keep that in mind.”
“I’ll be interviewing the maids soon, so get prepared.”
After putting on a silk one-piece nightgown and draping a robe over it, I went to Ilias’s room.

When I entered the room, Ilias was waiting for me.
“You’re late.”
“I had some work to do.”
As I sat down in the chair opposite him, he filled my empty glass with wine.
Ilias raised his glass and met my gaze, and as I lifted mine, he said softly,
“To a perfect marriage.”
Clink!
The glasses collided with a cheerful sound.
“Thank you for your hard work today.”
“You too, Your Highness. You worked hard for the wedding.”
“Adeline.”
“Yes.”
“You don’t have to try to do everything alone. Sometimes, it’s okay to hide behind me.”
“I’ll do that. If it gets tough, I’ll hide behind you, Your Highness. And if you have a hard time, you can hide behind me. We’re on the same side.”
Receiving Ilias’s kindness, I conveyed my goodwill as well. He slightly lifted the corners of his mouth at my words.
We continued our conversation while drinking.
“By the way, we’ll be sharing a room. Isn’t that uncomfortable?”
“It can’t be helped. We have to adapt to the situation given.”
“I’ll be as careful as possible.”
“I’ll be careful too.”
At the prince’s palace, we had to share a room. I had my own room, but it was unavoidable since His Majesty the Emperor ordered it.
It was late, and I was tired from a busy day since early morning, so I found myself dozing off during our conversation.
“Adeline, let’s stop here.”
“Huh?”
“Ah, yes.”
Though I tried to act nonchalant during the conversation, lying down together on a bed with a canopy felt strange. It was awkward and embarrassing.
I perched on the edge of the bed.
“Still, I’m glad the bed is large.”
I went to the right side of the bed, while Ilias went to the left. Leaving the middle empty, we lay on opposite edges as if clinging to them, so much so that I was afraid we might fall off.
I thought I wouldn’t be able to sleep because I was too aware of it, but perhaps I was too exhausted from waking up early and getting married—I ended up falling asleep without realizing it.
When I was in a deep sleep, someone grabbed my wrist, jolting me awake in shock.
Forgetting that I was married, I was about to scream when golden eyes locked onto mine. A hand covered my mouth as his arm wrapped around my shoulder.
‘W-Who is it?’
Terrified, I widened my eyes and looked at him.
“Shh.”
As my eyes adjusted to the darkness, I recognized Ilias. A beat later, I remembered—I was married to him. Our noses were so close they were nearly touching.
‘Why is he like this? He was definitely far away just a moment ago.’
Even in this situation, I could feel the firmness of his chest against my arm.
‘This man is ridiculously perfect.’
I was still trying to process the situation when Ilias whispered softly.
“There’s a visitor outside. Can you quietly hide under the bed?”
What kind of disaster is this?
I shook my head violently, but he let go of me and helped me up. Without making a sound, I slipped off the bed and crawled underneath.
‘Of all things, I’m spending my wedding night crawling under a bed. What a life…’
I had expected a rough future, but I didn’t think it would start this soon.
Once he confirmed I was hidden, Ilias carefully walked toward the terrace door.
Just as his hand touched the hilt of his sword, the door burst open, and about ten masked assassins entered.
From under the bed,all I could see were their feet, but it felt like dozens had entered.
The number of enemies seemed to match the rapid pounding of my heart.
