The Villainess' Ending Was Death

CHAPTER 017

Lycaon carried Fresa to the bed. He ordered Zed, who came running in surprise, to close the door to the pharmacy.

Fresa was lying down as if she was asleep, but her breathing was unusual. Her forehead was hot and she often groaned.

Lycaon had experienced these symptoms countless times, so he knew how painful they were. Despite this, Fresa never showed signs of pain. She was only worried about Lycaon, who lied and said she was still sick because she wanted to stay here.

Conscience, guilt.

The word was so far removed from Lycaon. So he couldn’t figure out why he felt so anxious.

“Why are you…”

Was she trying to carry it all alone? Even though Lycaon had been acting like a sickly master and clearly showing his weaknesses, Fresa seemed to not completely trust him. However, since he was a sick person, he guessed she couldn’t ignore him because of her kind personality.

He felt sick.

Fresa was clearly not in good condition. Looking at the symptoms, they were similar to those in the beginning when Lycaon was poisoned.

‘Does it have something to do with pretending to be dead?’

Did she drink poison? If he were Fresa, he would definitely have the ability to create an antidote, but why? The doctor who came from the empire repeated like a parrot that he could not find the cause. He was all in doubt.

Lycaon didn’t really know much about Fresa. Moreover, that gray cotton ball sticking to Fresa’s forehead was also unusual. At first, he thought it was draining life force like a bunch of germs, but upon closer inspection, he was closer to a spirit.

‘Was Fresa Soph a spiritist?’

Since spirits couldn’t communicate with anyone other than the contractor, Lycaon could only see him, but he couldn’t communicate with him, which was frustrating.

It was confusing. This whole situation, Lycaon’s emotions, and even his fear of Fresa.

At that time, Zed came into the bedroom. He looked at Lycaon with a serious expression and said.

“Your Majesty, Your Majesty has given the order to return.”

Zed was holding a small video sphere. To be called at a time like this, Lycaon’s older brother couldn’t wait for just a few days. Lycaon reached out his hand and rubbed Fresa’s forehead, which was sweating coldly.

“Ask him to wait a little longer, Zed.”

“But your highness…”

“Don’t make me say the same thing over and over again.”

Lycaon muttered coldly and then closed his mouth again. Zed sighed softly and left the bedroom.

“Wake up, Fresa.”

‘At least let me leave a message that I’m going.’

Lycaon closed his eyes and barely suppressed the waves of emotion that washed over him. Then Fresa lifted her eyelids.

Lycaon was quick to put on his friendly, good-neighbor mask.

“Resa, are you awake?”

“Ah… Mr. Lycaon?”

Fresa’s blurry eyes looked up at Lycaon. But she was strangely out of focus and couldn’t be sure if she was seeing Lycaon.

“I suddenly lost consciousness and fell down. What happened underground?”

Fresa shook her head and answered helplessly.

“Oh, no. I forgot to take my medicine. Sorry. You must have been surprised.”

Fresa sat up and apologized first. Lycaon didn’t like that either.

“Lie down a little longer. Because the fever hasn’t gone down yet.”

“It’s okay now.”

“I’m saying this because it doesn’t look okay.”

Lycaon let out a nervous sigh and closed his mouth without realizing it. Fresa’s eyes widened slightly.

“Are you angry?”

“That’s because you keep falling down…”

“You are saying what I have to say. I don’t think I can keep up with Lycaon when he collapses suddenly.”

Fresa said playfully and put on another fake smile. Lycaon was about to say something more, but stopped.

“Take your medicine well. What if you fall and hit your head?”

“Thanks to Mr. Lycaon who caught me in time, I’m fine. Thank you. By the way, it seems impossible for the pharmacy to be open today. I already prepared all the medicine.”

Fresa muttered about her worries about the pharmacy. Lycaon looked at her pale lips and then lowered his gaze.

“Can’t you tell me where it hurts? I showed you everything. Everything, even my hideous wounds.”

Then why didn’t she tell him anything, a strange feeling rushed through him.

* * *

Fresa was embarrassed. Lycaon could clearly see that he was disappointed in something about her.

‘Did I look too sickly?’

In fact, if the boss who would pay his salary keeps failing, his anxiety would grow as to whether he would be able to keep his job. If the pharmacy suddenly closes like this, Lycaon and Zed would naturally be laid off. She wanted to explain to Lycaon that it was nothing, but her story was too long. She didn’t know how to deal with the fact that she drank poison to pretend to be dead, and that if she just took the antidote consistently, she would soon be fine. She just wanted to avoid causing unnecessary misunderstandings to build up.

“I’m sorry, Resa.”

While she was thinking about it, Lycaon suddenly apologized.

“Oh, no.”

Although she was a little embarrassed, she understood that Lycaon was anxious.

‘Are the circumstances very bad?’

She guessed he spent too much money on watching fireworks at the Wheat Field Festival.

Since they rented a lighthouse for the entire evening, the expense must have been quite large. A lot of money must have been spent on treatment for poisoning. At first, she thought he was just a spoiled brat from a rich family, but her mind changed after seeing him do his best to help run the pharmacy over the past few days. Lycaon even went to work every day, carrying his sick body. What a touching feeling of love.

‘Lycaon and Zed need stable jobs.’

The tip of her nose twitched. The weight of being responsible for the future of two healthy and good-looking young men was quite unfamiliar.

“Mr. Lycaon, don’t worry too much. I’m really fine. And since the pharmacy business is doing well, there won’t be much loss if we take a day off.”

Fresa patted the back of Lycaon’s hand and comforted him kindly. Lycaon widened his eyes a little and then laughed softly.

“Do you think I care about that?”

“Then no? Mr. Zed asked yesterday when his paycheck was due.”

“Zed asked you that?”

“Now that I think about it, I didn’t tell you two. Your salary will be paid on the 1st of every month. You don’t have to worry too much because I can pay in advance.”

Even though Fresa explained it in detail, Lycaon’s eyebrows twitched in dissatisfaction.

‘Oh, now that I think about it, it seems like Zed asked me not to tell Lycaon.’

What could she do? The water has already spilled over. Moreover, payday was a question that employed people could not help but wonder about. This was her first time writing an employment contract, so there were a lot of shortcomings.

‘I need to reinforce it properly when I renew my contract.’

While Fresa was making a promise to herself, Lycaon stood up.

“Get some rest today. Take your medicine well.”

“Now that I feel better, I’m going to open a pharmacy.”

Since half a day had already been lost, people who needed urgent medicine would have been in vain. Fresa tied up his unwieldy hair and got out of bed. Then Lycaon gently grabbed her arm and stopped her.

“Resa.”

“Yes?”

“How about getting some rest today? There’s no need to overdo it.”

“I’m not overdoing it. People will wait. How are you feeling, Lycaon? Did you take your medicine well?”

Fresa wore her apron. She had it on before she fell, but Lycaon appears to have taken it off.

“I think I’ve heard a lot about you being stubborn.”

Lycaon had his signature smile on his face, but he looked somewhat uncomfortable. Seeing that the area under his eyes was a little darker, it seemed like he was in bad shape.

“Mr. Lycaon, I think it would be better for you to rest today. Your complexion darkened.”

“That…”

Lycaon opened his lips as if to explain something, but soon he was done. Fresa waited patiently for his words.

“It’s nothing. Anyway, I’m fine too, so don’t worry.”

Lycaon mumbled rather helplessly and she walked out of the bedroom first. She looked at his slumped shoulders and then followed him.

‘He clearly looks unwell.’

Lycaon told Fresa that she was stubborn, but she felt that Lycaon was much more stubborn.

“You’re finally alone, Ressa. Anyway, are you feeling okay?”

Reese, who had been sitting quietly on Fresa’s head until now, said so. Meanwhile Lycaon and Zed were talking in the garden.

Fresa glanced at them before displaying her vials and retorting.

“I’m very healthy, so you don’t have to worry.”

“Then I’m glad. But that person doesn’t seem to think that way.”

Reese pointed to Lycaon. As the wind blew through the open front door, Reese’s small body trembled.

“Why didn’t you tell me properly?”

“It was difficult to explain, so I had no choice.”

“Hmm, humans are truly complex beings. Be it before or now.”

Reese muttered to himself and settled down on Fresa’s shoulder.

“By nature, humans are complex animals.”

Fresa obediently admitted. At that moment, Lycaon and Zed came inside. Unlike before, Lycaon spoke in his natural relaxed manner.

“Resa, I have something to tell you.”

“What do you mean?”

“I’m going on vacation soon…”

Vacation? At the moment when Fresa was wondering, unexpected people passed by the garden. It was Rowan and Alicia, a couple who looked extremely good together.
