The Villainess' Ending Was Death

CHAPTER 016

The Count Thorpe family was turned upside down. The redevelopment project that the count had invested almost all of his money into was fraudulent. For some reason, the project seemed too vain, and it was strange when they said they were developing a countryside that no one would visit. What will happen to the Count family now? The workers gathered together and whispered. As soon as the Countess heard the news, she lost her senses and collapsed. The count who had to solve this problem was imprisoned because he could not repay a huge debt. When, before the trial, he said to his eldest son Elias, ‘Please take care of the family’, Elias gritted his teeth.

Elias clearly opposed his father’s wishes. How could they believe the story that a large gold mine had been discovered in a countryside whose name they had never even heard of? However, the Count, Countess, and Jerome were blinded by greed and pushed ahead with the investment, with disastrous results. If this continues, the Count Thorpe family will collapse.

Elias frowned as he sat at the desk in his father’s office, holding his throbbing head in his hands. Complaints, reminders from banks, and threatening letters from investors who trusted the count and invested with him were lying around.

“Brother! What happens to us now? Huh?”

“Brother, you can solve it, right?”

“Jerome, be quiet! I asked first.”

“You really can’t shut up when you don’t know anything?”

Amy and Jerome continued to urge Elias on unhelpful topics. Rowan Gillespie was on his honeymoon, and although he asked for help from nearby nobles, he received no response. It happened in just a few days. Elias buried her face in her hands and let out a deep sigh.

‘If Fresa existed.’

Yeah, he wouldn’t have had to worry if only Pressa had safely married Rowan Gillespie. Rowan would have been willing to cover this debt for his beloved wife. He could tell just by looking at what he was doing to Alicia right now. What extreme affection.

“Jerome.”

Elias raised his head and stared at his ignorant younger brother who only knew his sword.

Jerome, who had been arguing with Amy while raising her voice, looked at him in shock.

“Why, why are you calling me?”

“I have to meet Count Gillespie in person.”

“Brother?”

“No, you.”

Jerome’s complexion darkened at Elias’ firm words.

“But you’re on your honeymoon. She heard that she went to a strange place, either Fargo Village or Faro Village…”

Jerome hesitated and trailed off as if he didn’t feel like it. Elias frowned in annoyance.

“Go right away and ask for help in any way you can, whether it be kneeling or crying. Unless you want to end up on the street like this.”

Elias’ voice was as cold as ice. Jerome, who was watching him, reluctantly and helplessly answered that he would understand.

‘Damn, if it weren’t for my brother, I would have beaten him.’

Even though she was cursing Elias inside, she didn’t have the courage to confront him. At times like this, she would have been better off if Presa, who could vent her anger to her heart’s content, was still alive. Jerome pursed his lips and left the office.

Fresa rubbed her tired eyes and opened the door to her medicine cabinet. Her wreath hung like dust over her shoulders. What she found out about her Rhys these past few days was that, for some reason, he never went out the front door of this drugstore. She went out yesterday with Presa sitting on her shoulder and she passed out for a few minutes. It seemed like she was restricted from leaving her drugstore. Maybe that’s why she used to go around clinging to Presa like a leech.

‘It’s cute, but a bit sad.’

She barely woke up and had to stay in the medicine room. She thought to herself as she pulled back her curtains and opened the window, letting in the cool early morning breeze. Fresa was worried that the wind would blow away her wreath. However, Reese held on well, clinging to her palm as if it had been glued to it. She put the medicine she had made while sleeping in the medicine cabinet, added water to the herbs, and was ready. Only then did her worries, which she had forgotten due to her fatigue, come to mind.

“Won’t other people think it’s strange?”

Fresa lowered her gaze to her left shoulder. Reese was now sitting with her stringy legs crossed.

‘You have a really good sense of balance.’

She wanted to praise his undisturbed posture. Reese’s black eyes looked at Fresa.

“What do you mean?”

Her response was that Fresa didn’t understand what she was saying at all. She was like that to her mother, who had just come into the world. Plus, it’s cute and small.

“It looks suspicious to anyone. It was too big for a dandelion seed and had big eyes…”

“Oh, that?”

Reese then snorted at her.

“There is no need to worry as my appearance and voice can only be seen and heard by you, the contractor. Are you feeling safe now?”

“You should have told me that a long time ago.”

“Isn’t it obvious? There’s no way I can be seen by an insignificant human.”

They say it’s the spirit of the World Tree, but it seems to be the spirit of arrogance. Every time she said something, the bridge of her nose raised as if it was sky-high. The time she spent worrying became a waste. Fresa shook his head and opened the front door.

“Good morning.”

“Did you have a good night last night, Resa?”

Just then, Lycaon and Zed came to work.

“Welcome.”

Fresa greeted lightly and first checked Lycaon’s complexion.

‘Hair is moist as if it has just been washed, that’s okay. Under the eyes… It’s a little dark, but it seems better than yesterday.’

Overall it didn’t look bad, but she was still uneasy.

Lycaon grinned, probably feeling Fresa’s gaze carefully scanning her.

“Why are you looking at me like that? It’s going to break through.”

“Is there anything uncomfortable? What did the doctor say? Are there any side effects?”

Fresa asked questions one after another as if she had been waiting. Lycaon calmed her down by gently raising her hands.

“Ask them one by one, one by one. First of all, the doctor said I still need treatment.”

Zed’s eyes narrowed as he organized her medicine cabinet, but he didn’t see Fresa.

Fresa’s eyebrows narrowed slightly. Was it not enough to completely get rid of poison? Lycaon lowered her eyes and said pitifully.

“So, I think Resa needs to keep taking her medicine. Until everything heals.”

Fresa stared at Lycaon with an expression that showed she was worried about everything.

“Don’t worry about the medicine. Because we make it every day. Oh, how’s your cough?”

“It’s okay during the day, but it gets worse at dawn. Sometimes during the day.”

“Are you coughing up blood like before?”

“It’s a small amount.”

Lycaon covered her mouth with her hand and she coughed softly. Fresa held out her warm, boiled medicinal tea. She took the tea cup and sipped it as Lycaon looked at her with tired eyes.

“Thank you, Resa.”

The voice was so faint that Fresa had no choice but to pat him on the back to encourage him.

‘You can’t be at ease just yet.’

Lycaon was recovering very slowly. She may have to change the formula. Fresa decided to go down to Lycaon’s basement and look at her recipe while he drank her medicinal tea.

“Then I’ll bring some more medicine before the guests arrive. Don’t leave any medicine behind.”

“Let’s go.”

“Call me if you need help.”

When they arrived at the basement studio, Reese, who had been silent up until now, suddenly spoke up.

“It’s really strange, Resa.”

“What?”

“That human.”

“Mr. Lycaon?”

“Yes.”

Reese’s tone of voice was strangely cautious. Fresa opened the recipe book and made eye contact with Malgoris.

“What’s strange about it?”

“My body is overflowing with magical power. I have never seen magic fluctuate so much.”

Horsepower?  She heard that all humans in this world must be born with magical powers, but to become a wizard, the amount must be extraordinary. But Lycaon has a lot of magical power, even to his spirit.

“But Mr. Lycaon is not a wizard.”

At least as far as Fresa knew, he was just a sickly master from a noble family. But Reese had different thoughts.

“How can you be sure of that?”

“That’s it…”

Because she had been watching him all this time. Fresa was about to reply but stopped. When she thought about it, she didn’t know much about Lycaon.

‘Come to think of it, Mr. Zed called me ‘Your Highness’ last time.’

It was usually a title used to address royalty, members of the royal family, or the grand duke. First of all, they were not the royal family of the Piltz Kingdom. Since Fresa was from a noble family from a famous family in the capital, she knew at least who the royal family was. But so far, she had received help from Lycaon, and she had never suffered any loss. Lycaon may have a story he couldn’t tell.

Fresa spoke calmly.

“I do not know.”

“Be careful, Ressa. He may not be an ordinary human being.”

Reese warned in a heavy tone. Even though he looked like a small ball of cotton. Fresa smiled and looked at the recipe. She wanted to remove the dark shadow of venom from Lycaon’s handsome face as soon as possible.

‘That way we won’t have to make more of these complicated drugs.’

Fresa’s eyes were spinning as she checked the dozens of ingredients and the amounts that needed to be mixed.

‘I guess I overexerted myself for a few days.’

Fresa eventually decided to close the book and escape this stuffy basement. As he left the basement, dragging his heavy legs, he was reminded of a horrifying fact.

‘Now that I think about it, I haven’t taken the antidote these days.’

Damn dizzy. For some reason, she kept feeling tired and dizzy. This was why she died young before obtaining her official pharmacist license. Medicine at the right time, in the right amount, and in the right way. It was the worst thing to forget the most basic things.

“Resa? Resa! Are you okay?”

She heard Lycaon’s voice and felt a warm embrace supporting Fresa.

“Resa! Are you okay?”

Reese, who had turned red, was busy flying through the air and shouting repeatedly.

‘It looks just like Christmas lights…’

With that thought, Fresa suddenly lost consciousness.
