In the town below the thick walls of Glastona Kingdom, there were six main avenues radiating from the central castle, with the most famous noble mansions closest to the castle and the most poor residing closer to the city walls.
In the area of the eastern main street, near the walls, there was an inn called “Crescent Moon”, beloved by the local residents.
As the sun began to set, red lamps lit up the eaves, and by the time the sun had completely set, the small inn was so crowded that all the tables were filled.
Only cheap alcohol and simple dishes were served, but because the place had been around since the current owner’s father’s generation, there were many regulars who came everyday.
Therefore, the regulars who frequent the Crescent Moon inn were sensitive to unfamiliar faces, especially those who may threaten their paradise and they stare intently at newcomers from a distance.
When the unfamiliar face sat down in the corner of the bar, the chubby owner of Crescent Moon looked up and said, “Oh.”
There were two people sitting at the bar. One of them had moved to the area about a year ago, and was a drunkard who had come to Mikazukitei many times. He liked gambling and was always being chased by debt collectors. He had been advised once before to get a job if he had time to spend it drinking with money he had borrowed, but he didn’t seem to listen.
So it was no surprise that the man had come to the bar. What was strange was the hooded figure sitting in front of him.
The figure seemed to be female. Though her face couldn’t be seen, she had a small, delicate build, and the thin hands she had hidden from the sleeves of her cloak were so white that it seemed as if she’d never seen the sun.
A single strand of hair spilled from the hood, and it was of a beautiful golden color.
Clearly emitting an aura of mystery, the owner of the Crescent Moon and his customers were all intrigued.
The fact that that gambling-loving good-for-nothing was with a woman was intriguing enough, but the woman was hiding her face as if she was concerned about being seen by others, so it was only natural.
The two were whispering, as if they were having a secret conversation.
Upon receiving a signal from one of the regulars, the owner pretended to take their order and approached the two. The unimpressive gambler who was over forty, and the woman with her face covered. They were the talk of the town, where there was little entertainment – an opportunity not to be missed.
“What would you like to drink?”
As the owner spoke, the two stopped talking and the man ordered a beer and boiled salted beans as a snack. The woman didn’t seem to want anything.
After the owner took their order and left, the two resumed their whispered secret conversation.
It seemed like something was definitely amiss.
Just as the owner was thinking about taking the beer and beans and trying to find out what was in them, the woman put the leather bag on the table and stood up. Everyone wondered what was in it since it made a heavy noise.
The woman slipped through the gap between the tables in the narrow shop and quickly left the shop, drawing the attention of the customers to the man who was left behind.
The man carefully put the leather bag into his pocket, looked up, and said with a grin.
“Bring me the best wine in the shop and some meat.”
The owner couldn’t believe his ears.
