Chapter 38:
Standing in front of the door, I closed my eyes and imagined the situation that would soon follow.
“Oh! Really. Nothing’s going well.”
I couldn’t think of an excuse because of that Delther.
“Well, let’s think about it first.”
I smiled briefly at the servant who stood in front of the door and glanced at me.
“I need to prepare my mind, too.”
“……I see.”
The attendant was willing to wait.
In the meantime, I thought about Edgar’s reaction. How can I be less nagged…. No matter how hard I tried, there was no answer.
“As expected, the conclusion is the same even if I think about it one way or another.”
I dropped my head and motioned to the attendant.
Only then did he inform Edgar that I had come.
“Come on in.”
The somewhat annoying tone made me emotional and resentment soared.
‘Do you know anyone who wants to come and go back and forth like this?’
I’m still going to die of a headache because of Delther and Janice!
Why did he make his work complicated my life?
Squeak-
As soon as the door opened, I smiled with a broad expression of rottenness.
“Father! You called me?”
I laughed as loud as I could.
Edgar’s face hardened when he saw my expression.
“You must have done something wrong.”
Edgar’s words stabbed me, so I avoided eye contact.
‘Oh, I shouldn’t do this.’
But Edgar doesn’t know anything.
Looking up at the table, there seemed to be no letter from the Amelan family.
“Don’t you have a story to tell me?”
He told me his business straight away.
Because I don’t say anything back.
“He doesn’t talk much.”
“So, did you break through the hard-won meeting so quickly without any income?”
“I didn’t say I had no income.”
I sat on the sofa with a meaningful smile.
Seeing that it’s all over the desk, it looks like he’s looking for something.
“Auction.”
“Auction?”
Edgar raised his eyebrows at the rather short remark.
I asked Edgar because I thought there was something I needed to know.
“Is there anything I should know about the auction?”
I quietly examined Edgar’s behavior.
Edgar treated me in a rather calm manner.
I think he smiled a little bit?
‘That person is scary when he smiles like that.’
That look came as a horror to me.
“If I don’t need to know, you don’t have to tell me…….”
Edgar didn’t take his eyes off me either. Rather, he still sat cross-legged and stared at me.
“What are you curious about? My daughter.”
What do you mean, your daughter? Please, that word!
I’ve got goosebumps all over me.
I stopped touching my arm and gave a suspicious look.
“I’m more curious when you say that. You told me to meet you on a regular basis. What is it?”
Edgar may not have known, but our family was scammed.
There was a pattern! A pattern!
Even if I don’t get married, should he be asking someone to meet me?
“You have something to get at the auction, don’t you?”
I spoke in a confident voice.
It would be one of two things, whether it was to put up an item at Duke Amelan’s house or to have information.
It’s probably the former, though.
“That’s right.”
“And?”
Why are you just saying that?
I waited a little longer for Edgar to open his mouth.
He smoothed his chin and smiled more deeply than before.
“And I don’t understand why you keep leaving the Prince and the Princess who you hate so much in the house.”
Don’t you let the two who are desperate to kill go around here.
Leon can’t even walk around because of the two of them.
“Oh, that must have been my least favorite.”
Edgar nodded as if he now understood my behavior.
This isn’t the point.
“It’s not important enough to sell to my daughter.”
I opened my eyes wide. What’s the point of giving me such proper information?
I don’t think I’ll ever come out of the dark.
The auction that Delther told me was likely not to proceed legally.
Because Velois worked behind the curtains.
It seems that the business that could be blamed by the royal family has been reduced a little, but its power still remains.
“It’s important. I just can’t tell you yet. So when did you say the auction was going to be held?”
“That.”
I don’t know.
The cheap Delther didn’t tell me that far.
My eyes flashed and I stood up and shouted.
“Do I have to tell you that? There’s not much information from the Velois family. And you thought about giving it to me.”
I stared at Edgar with a shameless cross of my arm.
My acting is very useful at times like this.
“That’s alright.”
Edgar leaned back in his chair and looked at me.
“So don’t let me deal with this again.”
“It would have been just a meeting and exchanging information, but why are you so angry?”
I closed my mouth to Edgar’s words.
I can’t say that.
At least a promise is a promise.
“I see, I guess you talked about something you couldn’t tell. I think this is something I need to find out, too, so go on.”
I got up from my seat as soon as he finished talking.
“May I come with Leon on the day he takes the test?”
“I don’t think you won’t go just because I don’t allow it”
That’s true.
I shouldn’t have asked.
I regretted bringing it up just now.
“Then I’ll get going.”
Fortunately, it seems that the face-to-face meeting was completed safely without any problems.
I had a feeling something was going to happen, but it wouldn’t be a big deal.
Nevertheless, I left the office feeling uncomfortable for some reason.
* * *
Edgar turned his head as he stared at the door where Elle left.
“Find out what’s in the auction that we’re participating in at the Duke of Amelan.”
“I ordered it as soon as I heard it.”
He liked the aide’s quick work better today.
“And one more thing.”
There’s something on his mind.
She came, but she was the one who told him to just meet for work.
But why are there horns?
“The son of the Duke of Amelan…… Was it Cedric?”
“Yes, Cedric Amelan.”
“See what kind of guy he is.”
“Why all of a sudden……?”
He also found out that it will be auctioned, and the work will be completed soon.
What would they do if they found out about the duke without having to get involved?
“I think something must have happened. I must know what it is.”
“Are you worried?”
“Am I?”
At Edgar’s question, the assistant shrugged.
So, are you okay?
If you know everything, you ask because you’re shy or because you don’t know how your actions look to other people’s eyes.
He doesn’t think it’s either way for Edgar.
“Certainly, it looks like a particularly sunny day today.”
It was no different than usual, but it was uncomfortable to complain to Edgar.
I feel like I’m nervous but I’m careful with what I say.
” It’s not because she’s talking about him”
“I think it’s him.”
Edgar’s eyes narrowed.
He was used to Elle talking to him without losing.
He never felt like she was hiding something.
But today something strange happened.
“There must be something. So find out.”
“It’s possible to find out. My hunch is saying that it would be better not to know.”
If Elle’s hiding it, Edgar won’t be happy to know.
I don’t think he’ll stay still for any reason.
“Find out and report by today.”
“Count. Do I look like a person who doesn’t have anything else to do?”
“Do you not want to do anything else from today?”
“No, sir”
The informant immediately changed his attitude.
Once was enough to go against Edgar’s temper.
He wanted to live long.
“If you want to peel it, I’ll peel it.”
“Make sure that the item comes up at the auction. I was going to go get it first, but I think it’s gone.”
“They wouldn’t have thought of giving it to you.”
“Well, they could be.”
Edgar turned over the documents on his desk and looked at the auction items.
A pocket watch.
It was a watch that caught the eye with a lily pattern drawn and diamonds everywhere.
It was exactly what he wanted.
It was none other than what his wife had as a child.
And there was a very important clue hidden in it.
It’s very important and necessary evidence that others don’t know.
“If we find the pocket watch, is there a chance of winning?”
“No, it must be just the beginning.”
I was nervous at the thought that I was getting a clue little by little.
“Keep in mind that we must save it before war breaks out.”
“Yes, I am well aware. It’s proof of how she protected it.”
The aide looked carefully at the pocket watch on the paper.
They didn’t know that what they’d been searching for was only in the hands of a ruined Duchy.
They have to get it before the royal family knows it.
The existence of a pocket watch may disappear as soon as it is mentioned to others.
