On October 9, 3851 in the Star Calendar, the Zerg celebrate their birth anniversary, a day when the entire Zerg race comes together in a grand celebration.
During this grand festival, the chances of encountering rare and noble male Zerg significantly increase. Female Zerg carefully dress up and bring with them the achievements and wealth they’ve earned since reaching adulthood, hoping to find a male lord on this day.
At 2:31 PM, the Alhandra Manor was nearly empty, with only one four-year-old female Zerg named Quan Fan present besides the servants. Due to being female, he could not inherit his male father’s surname and instead took the surname of his female father. On the day he hatched, his male father bestowed upon him the name “Fan.”
Today, his male father had gone out with his female father and other Zerg. His elder brothers, all female Zerg, were busy with their own endeavors outside, leaving only him at home due to his young age.
However, little Quan Fan wasn’t upset by this, in fact, he was somewhat happy. With no one else at home, he wouldn’t have to worry about being scolded or punished for making mistakes.
He made his way to the egg incubation room, standing on tiptoe and peering with his large dark green eyes at the little brother inside the egg incubation box. His small face was trying to look serious.
He wanted his little brother to hatch and play with him but was also hesitant about it. After a long time of indecision, he seemed to make up his mind and reached out his small hand to pat the incubation box. “You better not hatch. male father is very fierce and will ask other zergs to beat you, look.”
As he spoke, he pulled up his sleeve to reveal his scar-covered arm. The small arm bore layers of new and old wounds, with some fresh bruises still visible, looking quite alarming.
With no change in his expression, Quan Fan’s large dark green eyes remained steady. “Female father says that we female Zerg are strong, and if we endure it, the pain will go away. But it really hurts a lot, a lot.”
“Female father says that because of the female monarch, our family is already doing well. You might not know who the female monarch is, the female monarch is the male father’s female monarch, and all of the male father’s children must call the female monarch ‘female monarch.’ The female monarch is a very powerful general. He has a female Zerg cub named Quan Yan, who is our eldest brother, but I’ve never seen him. There’s also another egg that has been in the incubator for two years and hasn’t hatched yet.”
“Look, it’s right here.” Little Quan Fan said, walking to another egg incubator and standing on tiptoe to look inside. When he did, he froze in place, his small mouth slowly forming an O shape.
Inside the incubator, the milky white egg had already cracked open, and within the larger half of the shell lay a small, tender white Zerg cub.
The Zerg cub was very small, just a little longer than his arm, curled up inside the shell, looking like a soft, small bundle. Its black fluffy hair stuck tightly to its face, and its tiny hands were clenched into fists near its face as it slept soundly.
Quan Fan looked at the Zerg cub’s tender white face and then touched the spot on his own face where his Zerg patterns were, his eyes widening even more.
A male Zerg cub!
The next moment, realizing what he had seen, he dashed back to his room with his little legs, found the terminal his female father had left behind, and ran back to the incubation room with it cradled in his hands.
He stood on tiptoe again, peeking into the egg incubator at his male Zerg brother, noticing that he was already awake, looking in his direction with a pair of bright blue eyes.
Quan Fan immediately held his breath, afraid of startling his male Zerg brother. The books had said that male cubs are the most fragile, and if not taken care of properly, they could fall ill and even die in severe cases.
Although he thought his tall male father was not fragile at all, the male Zerg brother before him looked so small!
“Shh.” Quan Fan placed a finger to his lips, his small face serious, “Don’t cry, don’t be afraid. I’ll call the female monarch back.”
The spirit cub, whose body had been destroyed right after gaining intelligence, looked in the direction of the sound. His vision was clouded by a mist, making it impossible to see clearly, but he opened his mouth and made a soft sound, “Ah~”
Quan Fan blinked, his male Zerg brother’s voice was so small and soft!
The ratio of male to female Zergs was drastically skewed, and because male Zergs were extremely weak in their infancy with only a 50% survival rate, this was the first time Quan Fan had seen a male Zerg cub since his birth.
Unlike the fragile male cubs, female Zerg cubs were incredibly strong, ranking among the strongest in the galaxy. They could roll and crawl right after hatching, walk and talk fluently within a month, and run around gleefully within five months.
Little Quan Fan was already a senior student in the cub academy, and in a few years, he could enter the primary section of the Lance Academy.
Today, because it was the Birth Day, all Zerg academies had a day off, which was why he was at home.
He patted his small chest with his little hand, feeling relieved that he had stayed home. Otherwise, no one would have known that his male Zerg brother had hatched, and by the time the butler found out, his male Zerg brother might have already caught a cold.
At the banquet, Quan Chu noticed Yun Lai’s call and immediately answered it. He knew that when they left, Yun Lai had given the communication device to the youngest female Zerg cub in the family, under his supervision, to contact him if anything happened.
After marrying a male Zerg, whether a female servant or a female monarch, all property belonged to the male lord and could not be used without permission.
This was why Yun Lai couldn’t provide a terminal for his female Zerg cub.
When the call connected, the first thing he saw was a small face pressed close to the screen. Quan Fan blinked, “Female monarch.”
Quan Chu nodded, “Yes, what is it?”
Female Zergs do not have the right to bear the male father’s surname, so all the male lord’s cubs followed his surname as the female monarch.
“Female monarch, your Zerg egg has hatched.”
Quan Chu paused, remembering the egg he had been checking on regularly. The egg hadn’t hatched for two years, and the Zerg doctor had told him that there was a high chance it would never hatch, but he had stubbornly kept it in the incubator, caring for it. He hadn’t expected it to hatch.
“And it’s a male Zerg cub!” Quan Fan added, standing on tiptoe to point the camera at the male Zerg cub in the incubator.
When Quan Chu saw the tiny, soft little bundle in the video, he immediately stood up, completely ignoring the surprised looks from those around him. His dark red eyes stared intently at the tender white male Zerg cub in the video.
He carefully examined the male cub in the video. The cub had black downy hair like his and bright blue eyes like his male father’s.
Quan Chu couldn’t describe his feelings at that moment. Unlike those who had never seen a male Zerg, he was born into a mid-tier family with a male father and had a male lord soon after reaching adulthood.
His life experiences had taught him that male Zergs were arrogant, egotistical, and violent. To them, female Zergs were merely beings whose death would cause minor inconvenience.
He had no fondness for male Zergs, and the thought that this male cub would grow up to be like them made the initial joy in his heart slowly fade.
Male Zergs are very important to the Zerg race.
They were an essential part of the gene that female zergs had protected since the dawn of their kind.
In the history of the Zerg race, there has never been a case of a female Zerg harming a male Zerg.
The catastrophe a thousand years ago drastically reduced the already small number of male Zergs. If not for the changes in the female Zergs’ physiology, allowing the union of females to produce Zerg cubs, the entire Zerg race would have been wiped out long ago.
The stern general, with his bloodstained hands behind his back, quietly watched the weak male cub in the video. His dark red eyes were filled with thought. He thought that this male cub might be his chance—a chance for freedom from confinement at home.
Nearby, Alhandra, who had just taken some fruit from a female servant, frowned upon seeing Quan Chu’s restless demeanor. As a female lord, he was usually calm and composed, so something must have happened.
There was a bit of disgust in his eyes but at least he didn’t get angry and asked coldly, “What’s the matter?”
After coming back to his senses, Quan Chu bent down and saluted, “I’m sorry, Male lord, I’m so excited because the egg has broken out of its shell.”
After hearing his reason, Alhandra’s blue eyes flashed with a hint of impatience. He knew about Quan Chu’s egg, which had not hatched for two years and should have been a dead egg by now. To his surprise, it had actually hatched.
He lazily lifted his eyelids, clearly displeased with the answer. His lips touched, “When we return, go to the punishment hall and receive fifty lashes.”
The female servants’ expressions changed, and they lowered their heads to minimize their presence, fearing the male lord might decide to punish them too.
The whips in the punishment hall were special, each lash carrying a painful and severe experience. Even the best female zergs couldn’t bear it.
Quan Chu’s expression remained unchanged as he spoke in a cold voice, “Male lord, it’s a male cub.”
The room fell silent for a second. Alhandra suddenly stood up from his seat, “A male cub?!!”
He had been hoping for a male cub for a long time. Unfortunately, despite marrying numerous female servants and buying female slaves over the past thirty years, and having over thirty eggs and successfully hatched twenty-three, none had been male.
Quan Chu nodded and approached to show him the video on the terminal.
On the other end of the video, Quan Fan, knowing it was for the male father to see, made an effort to lift the terminal higher.
In the video, the white, tender male cub lay quietly in the eggshell, its gaze fixed on the direction of the camera. He looked in the direction of the video and seemed to see the effort of his brother trying to step on his feet. He bent his fingers and said weakly, “Ah~”
Alhandra covered his chest and stepped back, his blue eyes widening. His mind was filled with thoughts of how adorable his male cub was!
Without considering anything else, he quickly left with a group of his female servants.
Upon returning to the manor, they rushed straight to the incubation room, disregarding everything else. Of course, no one dared to rush in front of the male lord and female lord.
When the male father and female father returned, little Quan Fan approached his female father, holding his hand.
Yun Lai patted his head, “Well done.”
Male zergs were inherently weak, and with the housekeeper and others not having access to the incubation box, if they had waited for the male lord to return from the banquet, the little male cub might have faced problems.
The male lord had been hoping for a male cub for many years, and if anything had happened to this cub, they all would have faced dire consequences.
Fortunately, he had left Quan Fan at home, and fortunately, he had come to see his younger brother and discovered the newly hatched male cub.
By the side of the female father, Quan Fan was much more lively. He smiled and said, “Female father, the male cub brother is so small and so cute!”
onee-chan:
Hello everyone ヾ(≧▽≦*)o
I’m sharing with you this adorable gem I’ve found! It is freaking adorable literally throughout the whole novel, and I can definitely say it’s one of the novels I have really enjoyed reading in my spare time. It doesn’t feel like a drag, and it doesn’t feel too fast either. It stays consistently cute and wholesome for 90% of the whole story, with the plot making up about 9% and the love line… er, the remaining 1%.
But don’t fret! This is not a story that really focuses on romance because it’s literally a child growing up / coming-of-age kinda novel. Don’t expect much romance (but the mc and ml are childhood sweethearts friends guys!), just cuteness ฅʕ•̫͡•ʔฅ
I also really like the unique take and slight tinkering with the whole danmei Zerg trope by the author because—
Gosh, it’s really unique and so different from the other kinds of Zerg danmei novels out there. Not that I’m saying anything bad about them, but most Zerg danmeis from the raw sites tend to be quite similar in ideals, plot, even their protagonists. The first time I stumbled upon danmei Zerg, it felt so refreshing, and I wanted to consume every Zerg danmei I could find. But after all these years, they all start to feel the same.
Fortunately, I’ve come across this novel, and it’s just renewed my appreciation for this niche genre again.
The only thing that didn’t quite sit right with me was the open-ended conclusion. It left me a bit hung up, wishing for a little more closure, but honestly, it didn’t ruin the overall experience for me.
That’s all, hehe~
can someone tell me if tis novel is really cute???
