“A party to find your wife.”
“Party looking for a candidate for Grand Duchess.”
“Okay, speaking of that party, I’m sure everyone has already arrived, right? It’s a party. There may be things you need to prepare in advance.”
She thought of the dress that Sebastian had prepared for her, but that was probably crumpled somewhere in this bedroom. It was a difficult dress to wear on her own without help. If such a complicated shape were everyday wear, it would go without saying if it were a dress to be worn at a party. Come to think of it… She had to read the novel, but all she remembered was the name of the main character and the shadowy figure. There’s no way she could know how this world was structured since she didn’t even remember the outline of the story.
Asili lifted her head and looked up at Ludwig.
“I didn’t even ask.”
“What?”
“You said you were the Grand Duke. How high is that? So, uhm. The emperor is the highest here, right? From what I heard before, I don’t think it was a society governed by constitutionalism… Close to centralized power? Or feudalism?”
Ludwig was not at all embarrassed and explained despite the questions being asked repeatedly without taking a breath.
“The emperor is the highest. The Grand Duke is on the same level as the Crown Prince. I never cared about the temple. The current empire is close to centralization. No matter how far away a land is, it never escapes the emperor’s eyes.”
He answered all the questions without leaving out a single one, and looked at Asili’s shoulders extending from the neckline.
“Is there really no pain?”
Asili, lost in other thoughts, nodded his head half-heartedly. She didn’t seem to feel any pain, even though the blue bruises were clearly visible on her white shoulders through the shirt she was wearing. Ludwig lifted her up while holding her. Asili reflexively wrapped her arms around his neck and remained quiet, as if lost in thought. Setting her down on the sofa, Ludwig, without hesitation, lifted the collar of the shirt she was wearing. A black bruise was clearly visible on his shoulder. She couldn’t believe it didn’t hurt even after doing this. A furrow appeared between his eyebrows. His dry, long fingers grazed the mottled bruises, but Asili didn’t even blink, let alone moan. Ludwig raised her body and stretched out his hand toward her, who was sprawled out on the sofa. He said as he stood up Asili, who reflexively grabbed his hand.
“Take it off.”
There was something very strange about saying this in the morning, especially right after eating, but neither Ludwig nor Asili felt any discomfort at all.
“To the stomach? Or below? To be honest, I’m wearing pants, too big pants. Same with the shirt. Ah, well, it’s still comfortable. It’s comfortable so I have no complaints.”
As she lightly shook her arms and legs, her sleeves and trousers were undone, and her hands and feet disappeared through her clothes. As soon as she woke up in the morning, she tried to put on the dress Sebastian had prepared for her yesterday, but failed miserably. Confused about where to tie all those strings, Asili boldly gave up her dress and took Ludwig’s shirt and pants.
‘If you don’t have teeth, you have gums, and I can’t be naked like in dreams.’
Because his clothes were too big for her body, she felt like she was buried in them rather than wearing them, but considering she was wearing large clothes, she didn’t feel very uncomfortable. Wasn’t it fashionable to wear oversized clothes in that world? It’s not even going out clothes, so as long as she was comfortable, everything was forgiven. But perhaps she was the only one who could forgive her, as Sebastian, who brought her breakfast, took off her adult clothes and saw her dressed like a child, bowing deeply and saying,
“I’m really sorry. I will definitely prepare clothes for you today.”
She could even sense a sense of sadness in his calm voice.
“It would be nice if the clothes you brought before lunch were a little less complicated.”
“Just take off my shirt first.”
“If I take off your shirt, I have to take off your pants anyway.”
Thanks to the fact that the shirt was wrinkled up enough, she was able to hit the pants that barely hung on her hips.
“Then take everything off.”
She shrugged her shoulders and took off his shirt. As was her natural course, the pants that were hanging around her pelvis were also lowered. Asili’s white naked body was exposed in the sunlight. Ludwig scanned her naked body with a dry gaze. The bluish bruise on her round shoulder that ran below her thin neckline was bigger than he had first seen.
“This part is bruised, but it doesn’t hurt?”
“Bruise? Where?”
Asili’s face crumpled as she followed the tip of his finger with her gaze with a puzzled look on her face.
“What’s this? Why are you bruised?”
“This is the part that was caught yesterday. There was no trace of her hand, though.”
“What? You got a bruise like this just from a little hit on the shoulder? What kind of glass body is this?”
Were there any side effects from a dream becoming reality? The thought that suddenly occurred to her was quite plausible.
Ludwig spoke as if he had read her thoughts.
“Is this a reaction that came from a dream to reality? Is there really no pain anywhere?”
“Uh… I don’t have it right now, but I think I’ll have to do a full inspection. If we just get over it, it could end like this…”
Asili blinked her eyes, covering her mouth with her large hand. Ludwig covered his mouth and let out a faint sigh.
“It may not be there, but there is a saying that has been handed down here for a long time.”
“Eup eup eup eup?”
Ludwig, who read the shape of the lips twitching in his palm, soon removed his hand and nodded his head.
“It’s there too. Yes. There is an old saying that words become facts.”
“The neighborhoods where people live are all similar.”
She swallowed hard when she said that it was because the person who wrote this book, where Ludwig was in the dark, was from Korea, where she came from. The impact of her dream becoming reality was so great that she buried it for a while, but she didn’t just pass over as a dream.
A book. That too was in the novel.
Asili sighed, trying to remember where she had seen the book.
“Oh my god.”
“Asili? Your face looks so bad.”
As her pale complexion turned as white as a sheet of paper, Ludwig pulled her shoulder in a familiar way. In his arms, she opened her mouth, but in the end she couldn’t say anything. The warmth she felt with her whole body was so vivid, so how could she say that he was a character in a book in the historical war fiction section and that it was also a dark story. If you think about it that way, she might as well be a character in a book. It also plays the role of marrying the dark side.
‘…Let’s not think about it. First, focus on the task in front of you.’
If you run with only your eyes on the sky, chasing too big of a lump, you are likely to fall into a hole.
Asili wrapped her arms around his back. Ludwig’s heart pounded as she closed her eyes and leaned back. He placed her chin on the top of his head and hugged her waist a little closer.
“If it hurts, anytime, anywhere, say it hurts.”
“Huh.”
“And.”
“Huh?”
“No, no.”
Like in the dream, he couldn’t say that it was okay to talk about anything. Because she was no longer a mirage that disappeared when he woke up from his dream. The two, who had been leaning on each other for a while and sharing warmth, fell at the same time as if they had made a promise.
“I said the bruise doesn’t hurt, but I’ll prepare some medicine just in case. The prosecutor should call the attending physician within today.”
“There is a doctor.”
“Yes.”
“Is he just a priest with the power of a god? I imagined using something like that and getting cured in an instant.”
“Priests who can use holy power have disappeared for a very long time. You can only see them in history books.”
“If you can see it in a history book, it means it was actually possible, right?”
At Asili’s reaction of widening her eyes, Ludwig smiled, squinting between his eyes.
He asked, taking her hand and pressing it between his eyes.
“If you’re curious, can I bring you a book about it?”
“Okay then, no, I don’t know how to read. I can communicate, but I have no reading comprehension skills. I’m illiterate, illiterate! I can’t believe I’m illiterate! How much money did I pay for my education?”
How much time, sweat, money, and effort did she put into elementary, middle, and high school and then college, and yet she ended up becoming illiterate so easily? The fruit of wandering thoughts to escape from reality was resentment and anger.
“If it’s writing, a teacher… No, I will teach you directly, so stop rolling your feet. Because then you might break your bones.”
A knock was heard behind Ludwig’s low voice stopping her from stomping and kicking the floor.
Knock, knock.
The only one who would be back here now would be Sebastian, and he would have coffee in his hand. Asili would calm down if she drinks coffee.
“Come in.”
Sebastian, who had entered while pushing a suitcase that smelled of coffee, boldly gave up on his duty and left, closing the door in just a few seconds. Meanwhile, Asili and Ludwig, who were staring at the door that was closed neatly without a sound, exchanged glances. What just happened?
Well. Sebastian has never been like that before. After conversing with their eyes, their heads simultaneously tilted in the same direction. Then, Asili suddenly looked down at herself and became embarrassed.
“I’m not wearing anything right now.”
Ludwig also nodded his head as if he had finally realized it. When Sebastian opened the door and walked in, he would find Asili naked. The two of them, understanding his strange behavior, burst into laughter without anyone saying anything first. High and low laughter spread throughout the room. Asili, who had been holding her stomach and laughing for a while, waved her hands and Ludwig handed her his shirt.
“Oh really, habits are scary things.”
“I’ll be bringing proper clothes soon.”
“That complicated one?”
A dress that had so many strings that she gave up on wearing it because she couldn’t tell how it was used. Asili let out a sigh of relief with her fed up face.
“Don’t worry, we will give you a new one.”
“I’m not used to being waited on by others. But I have no choice. I’ll have to get used to being next to you. I guess I should first pretend to be familiar with it.”
In the end, she has no choice but to ‘act’ thoroughly.
“Ss I said last time.”
Before she could finish hearing what he said, Asili shook her head.
“No. I need a worthy identity and justification to be by your side.”
Asili was a person from a completely different world who literally fell from the sky, or rather from somewhere, into the world of this novel. There was no way to be the next Grand Duchess, no way Grand Duke Ludwig Caliente would be able to confidently announce that she was an unknown woman from another world.
“If I say I love you.”
