The Peaceful Life of a Maid Who Hides Her Power and Enjoys It

Part 2 Episode 14

In the capital of the Contaninos Republic, Siagot, the Legion stood tallat the heart of all the parliament buildings of Contaninos gathered in the central district.

In this Legion, a young woman was hastily making her way.

Despite it being past midnight, the lights in the Mineun Assembly Hall within the Legion were still bright.

The woman gave great thanks to the fact that the great ruler of her homeland, the Left Minister, was a workaholic who dedicated himself to his work day and night.

The woman opened the door to the Mineun Assembly Hall without hesitation.

“Minister!”

Among the gathered crowd, the head of a man with an exceptionally tall stature turned towards her.

Was it because the woman’s face was so pale?

Even though an uninvited guest had interrupted in the midst of a serious meeting, the attendees did not respond unpleasantly.

The woman, who had hurriedly descended the stairs, kneeled on one knee in front of the Left Minister, who was comfortably perched on the bottom step. She then spoke in a trembling voice.

“Urgent news. The wildfire that started at the southern border of the Banahel Kingdom is spreading rapidly. It is predicted to reach the Land of Death within 20 minutes.”

“Wildfire? Any word from the Banahel Royal Family?”

“That’s…”

The woman, unable to easily open her mouth, was met with a deliberately stern expression from the Left Consul.

“What problem has occurred? Keeping your mouth shut won’t solve anything.”

The woman swallowed her dry saliva before reporting the truth.

“A whistle… was heard, they say.”

At that moment, the faces of everyone in the venue stiffened.

Someone hurriedly rose to their feet and stared incredulously at the woman, while another touched their temples in disbelief, sighing.

Among them, the Left Minister, with the most cautious expression, clenched his fist with a heavy, sunken voice.

“Is it true?”

“Yes. Since multiple testimonies have been secured, it doesn’t seem to be a lie. After the whistle was heard, flames exploded like fireworks, and some say monsters rose from the ground…”

“Hah.”

“Although not precise, there were also testimonies that someone was confronting Rein.”

At that time, the minister raised his hand to stop the woman’s report.

“Racha.”

The young aide standing beside him responded with his head bowed.

“Yes, Minister.”

“Sound the level 2 national disaster alert. And inform the neighboring countries of the status quo. We will hold an emergency summit now that the seal of the calamity Rein has been broken.”

“I will carry out the order.”

“Follow me, and as for the rest… I hope you will each move according to the situation.”

“Yes.”

The woman followed the Left Minister out of the Mineun Assembly Hall.

The calamity Rein.

She still couldn’t believe it. The calamity Rein had returned!

Among the citizens of the Contaninos Republic, there was none who did not know his name.

Even though in recent years, a heinous criminal named Mephisto had gained a notorious reputation, his influence had never invaded within the borders, so it was difficult for the Contaninos Republic to consider him a tangible fear.

But Rein was different.

The first time the man appeared in the world was 30 years ago.

At the time, he was called the cursed flame, not Rein. He turned the southernmost part of the Contaninos Republic into a sea of fire and raised an army of dead, but he was sealed by Spolia in less than a year.

Approximately 10 years ago, however, he reappeared as the calamity Rein. He gathered worshippers in the border area using corpses, but he was sealed once again.

Few people knew that the cursed flame and the calamity Rein were the same person. The fact that he was the fourth demigod to appear on the land was also a semi-secret known only to the leaders of the different countries.

“W-Where are we going?”

“We’re going to see Spolia.”

“What? Spolia..!”

Hic! The woman barely managed to suppress the hiccups that were involuntarily about to pop out of her mouth..

She knew it was a serious matter, but she had never expected to personally meet Spolia. It was truly an honor for her family.

“There seems to be one thing we need to clarify. Did you mention that there was someone opposing the calamity Rein?”

“Ah, yes, but there’s been no clear information on that part. According to the testimony, rather than that person stopping Rein… it seemed that Rein approached them himself.”

“I see.”

The Left Consul suddenly stopped walking and looked back at her.

“I almost forgot. Before meeting Spolia, there are a few things to keep in mind.”

“Yes!”

The Left Consul stared at the woman, who was visibly trembling at a glance, with a familiar feeling. Those who were about to meet Spolia were bound to be so nervous that their legs would shake.

“First and foremost, do not be surprised by whatever form he may take.”

“Yes.”

“Lies will not work, so answer all his questions honestly.”

“I will keep that in mind.”

Lastly,

“Do not catch his eye.”

For the first time, the woman’s eyes held a question.

“To not catch his eye… what does that mean, exactly? Do you have an example?”

Was it an unexpected question? After careful consideration, the Left Consul answered.

“One could name the hero of Penrotta.”

If it’s the hero of Penrotta…

‘Raphael Zenail.’

Although the Duke of Berkeley-Gratten and the Emperor’s sword, Andert, were also reversed as heroes, Raphael Zenail was the hero among those heroes.

The woman swallowed a hollow laugh. Wasn’t Raphael Zenail too high of a wall to compare her to? But it was a sufficiently convincing example. Yes, one would have to be at least a hero to catch the attention of the gods.

‘But why the instruction to not draw attention?’

It was difficult to understand, but… since it was the advice of the Left Minister, there must be a deep meaning to it, she thought.

“Yes, sir. I understand. I will be careful.”

The left minister nodded and walked ahead again.

He prayed that his god would not be his capricious self with this innocent young woman.

* * *

I stood beneath the countless stars that dotted the sky.

Day, night, and dawn rose in the sky all at once. The vast, distant universe silently expanded, looking down upon me.

The universe spoke.

Walk down that path.

I looked down at the stars now.

A swamp surrounded by black mist over the barren desert. A land of red, blazing lava. Outside the cold basalt zone, beasts roamed a paradise. Silver colored mountains stood above the clouds after passing through the meadow where the World Tree stood.

This path was the one I had to take.

The moment I took my first step, my body, soul, and mind formed a perfect trinity…

[Stop, Daisy.]

The sand of the desert, which had been dancing like a river, stopped its flow and fell to the ground. Hair so blue it was almost piercing obscured my vision. A smile close to a sneer formed on the lips of the man who grasped my wrist.

[Where are you always running off to? Have you already forgotten? We made a promise, didn’t we? To remain as half-stars for eternity.]

The force of the man pulling me back eclipsed the sky and the world.

Rue whispered sweetly.

[So come back, Daisy. Here, to the land where I stay.]

.

.

.

I definitely died.

Yet something had happened after I died.

“What is… this?”

Although all my memories were hazy, I could clearly remember the intense heartbeat that had thundered in my eardrums.

I experienced death and came back to life.

“Haha, something’s not right. That can’t be right, Daisy. To wake up again? No, you should have died. I’m sure you died, didn’t you?”

I seemed to have then broken the man’s arm.

His screams dragged on for a while. My vision was stained with red blood, but my heart still beat fiercely.

At this moment, it was as if I had been born again.

“…Yes. It’s the blooming. Damn it! Of all times, to happen now? No, is it because of my timing that your power has awakened? Agh, this is why prodigies are…”

The man fled far away, dragging his tattered arm.

‘Rue.’

When would Rue come? At this rate, he’d be late again. As my consciousness gradually faded…

.

.

.

.

.

Whoosh.

My eyes snapped open.

This familiar scent and air.

‘This is Calepa.’

It was obvious that Rue had brought me here.

Instinctively, I raised my hand to my left chest, and I felt my heart beating vigorously just as I remembered it. It was something that, logically, couldn’t be possible.

‘My heart was definitely torn out… it regenerated?’

Was it the effect of that ‘blooming’ the man was babbling about? How much time had passed since I collapsed?

“How do you feel, Daisy?”

A terribly affectionate voice came.

Aww terribly affectionate voice holder why’re you late T-T

If you’re wondering why things are suddenly happening so quickly, fear not, this is only because we are currently in the prologue for part 2. Chapter 16 is the end of the prologue that sets up the story, and our true story begins from chapter 17.

More on Spolia – Spolia’s gender is not specified in the original text. I go with ‘he’ for him merely due to contextual clues and the way he is described or talked about, but korean is not a direct language. It does not use clear-cut pronouns like she/he like in english. The pronouns it uses for people are neutral and if literally translated mean – this person, that person instead of he or she. That’s why, I am merely assuming he is a he because of the information we’ve been given, but the mystery of his gender is kept ambiguous on person because of his personality.

    Thank you for the chapter!
To me Spolia gender bender for fun, she or he, with that person anything goes. Didn’t expect Daisy to pull off shounen protagonist move, bringing herself back to life through willpower.
