<Episode 81>
The journey to the Kingdom of Astrosa was arduous.
To reach this damned country, we had to pass through two cities and an additional kingdom. However, each time we had to stop at an airport, the pilot changed, and refuel by replenishing with magic stones, which made the time longer.
The estimated time to arrive at Astrosa was approximately 45 hours.
“The lunch for the second day has been served. Enjoy your meal.”
Fortunately, meals were provided separately on board.
It was slightly better than dog food. The kind of meal that made me long for Rue.
Furthermore, the landing and takeoff noise that accompanied small aircrafts was horrendous.
It felt like my eardrums were about to burst.
And then there was the issue of the restroom.
The problem of sleeping arrangements.
The issue with troublesome guests in the rooms.
Problems upon problems, and so on.
I thought I could endure most discomforts based on my experience in the Magic war, but this was still…
“Do you go through these hardships every time you go to Astrosa?”
In response to my question, Yeager skillfully removed his earplugs and answered.
“It’s quite challenging, isn’t it? Haha. It can’t be helped. The kingdoms in the Northern Continent rarely grant entry permits unless you’re from an allied country. Moreover, since there are no visitors to go there, there are no actual flights or pilots available to go there. My father invested in creating this flight route with great difficulty. I can only hope it becomes more convenient someday.”
“How often do you go to Astrosa?”
“I think I go once every season.”
He really was serious about the Northern Continental Union.
While I admired Yeager’s passion, the aircraft continued to fly, and we arrived in a land where the perpetual snow could be seen from far away across the night sky.
It was the first time in my life that I was visiting the kingdom of Astrosa.
However, to my dismay, I was denied entry upon arrival.
“What? How is that possible? Why are they refusing us? I already received permission for my new companion’s entry over two weeks ago. I even have the confirmation document right here!”
The language interpreter, who calmed down the riled up Yeager, began to have a conversation with the immigration officer once again.
And once again, we were firmly rejected.
“Seems like there’s an issue with the entry procedure?”
In response to Jean’s question, Desherro, carrying only a small suitcase, answered.
“It’s a common occurrence in the Northern Continent. Entry permits can be revoked within half a day of being granted.”
“Why are they so closed off?”
“Fifty years ago, there was a massive influx of proselytizing missionaries from the Holy Church who immigrated here, and some of them were caught trying to smuggle drugs and disrupt the order of Rogue. Since then, the image of imperial citizens has been tarnished.”
Oh, so that’s what happened.
While the three of us stood in the middle of the breezy airport (Andert disregarded Yeager’s request to stay put and was wandering around the airport), Yeager, who had been engaged in a heated argument, returned.
“I’m sorry, everyone. It seems that the entry for everyone except me has been denied, so we’ll have to wait for a while. The Astro are…”
“Oh well, maybe going back to the Empire wouldn’t be so bad…”
“What are you talking about, Viscount Desherro? Haha. If you just wait a little longer, everything will be resolved. It’s not like we haven’t experienced this a couple of times before.”
Yeager, with an annoyed look, pointed at the blond-haired young man who was leaving the airport alone.
“That interpreter friend of mine is from Astrosa. The capital of Astrosa is just an hour away from here, and there’s someone from our company who handles various administrative issues on behalf of our company in the capital. We’ll make a separate request to them.”
An hour just to get to the capital? That means we’ll have to wait at least 2-3 more hours. I’m going to die waiting.
‘The country Rue lives in is troublesome from the moment you step in.’
I put down my luggage and sat down on the ground.
Astrosa was cool. Maybe it’s because it was in the north, but even in the same summer, there was no stifling heat, and the blowing wind wasn’t unpleasant.
With this kind of air, I could probably sleep for a while.
“It seems like there’s someone here who can vouch for Mr. Yeager. May I ask who that is?”
“Of course. It’s Viscount Belvoa. Once he gets involved, the entry permit will be granted quickly, so please don’t worry.”
Desherro, who initially said he’d just go back back, seemed to develop a lot of interest after arriving in Astrosa.
He eagerly engaged in various conversations with a newfound energy, asking about this and that as if he was going to devour Yeager.
I also listened attentively to their stories, but as time passed, my focus started to waver.
It wasn’t because the stories were boring. It was because I realized a difference in my surroundings.
I couldn’t hear a incomprehensible foreign language in my ears.
‘…It’s not an illusion.’
The people passing through the airport were clearly from Astrosa, not the Empire.
Astrozans were supposed to use the Northern Continent language – or well, they were definitely using it, yet my ears were perfectly interpreting their words.
As if the Northern Continent language was my native language.
It went without saying, but I never learned the Northern Continent language.
So how was this possible?
‘Have I gone crazy?’
Or maybe my soul shattered, and that’s how I gained the ability to understand foreign languages?
‘That’s unlikely. It must be some kind of magic… Did Rue cast a spell on me?’
Or…
I touched my ear. I could feel the magical earring that Rue left behind.
I thought it only had the function of a sword, but maybe it also had a translation function. It was highly probable.
‘What are you trying to say, exactly?’
He left after making such thorough preparations. It was obvious he would’ve been very disappointed if I hadn’t followed him to the Northern Continent, right?
That’s when it happened.
Sernut, the immigration officer who was arguing with the interpreter, hurriedly ran towards us.
He stood in front of us, bowing repeatedly and apologizing.
“We apologize, esteemed guests. Our handling of the situation was inadequate. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.”
This drastic change in attitude…
Did Viscount Belvoa, who was going to intercede for Yeagar, arrive already?
When I raised my head, I saw a tall man striding towards us confidently from behind the immigration officers.
He was a well-dressed gentleman in a perfectly tailored suit, with no wrinkles in sight and a sophisticated mustache.
As he lightly tapped the officers’ backs, they disappeared in a hurry.
Yeager greeted the man with eyes hiding any fatigue.
“Haha! We almost spent the night at this airport, I must say! Thank you so much for helping me so quickly. You must be the person sent by Lord Belvoa, right? I am Yeager Panula.”
Yeager naturally spoke in the Imperial language, and the man responded in the same.
“Lord Belvoa is a good person indeed. However, I have not come from the Belvoa family.”
“Oh… really? Then where are you from?”
The man smiled and took off his fedora, elegantly bowing his head.
“Ladies and gentlemen, it’s an honor to meet you. I am Mont, the steward of Count Serenier. I have come to welcome and accompany you all to Serenier on behalf of the Count. I look forward to serving you well.”
Judging by their interactions, Yeager and the man seemed to be complete strangers to one another.
What on earth was going on?
‘Count Serenier… That name sounds familiar.’
Serenier, Serenier…
“Oh dear, did you say Count Serenier? Isn’t that the father of Viscountess Weatherwoods? Goodness, this must be fate!”
Hold on.
‘Viscountess Weatherwoods? Morian Serenier? That Serenier?’
My mind went blank for a moment.
“Did you not know about this either, Miss Daisy? It seems the Viscountess was concerned for you and sent word to the Serenier family in advance.”
Do you not get it?
From the beginning, there was no Viscountess! How could someone related to a fake identity come to pick us up?!
‘This is a crisis.’
Even if it was an unfortunate choice of words, it was appropriate.
This was truly an unexpected crisis.
How did this guy show up? Wasn’t Rue just secretly impersonating someone from the Serenier family? Questions upon questions arose.
And at the end of the questions, I decided to keep my mouth shut.
“…….”
“Ha-ha! Daisy seems surprised too. Mr. Mont, then, we will first greet Viscount Belvoa and then go to Serenier…”
“There’s no need for that. We will contact Viscount Belvoa from our side, so you can rest in the Serenier estate for the meantime and then go about moving.”
“But…”
“You may not know this, Mr. Panula, but meeting Count Serenier is as hard as meeting his majesty, the king of Astrosa himself.”
“Ahaha. Then… shall we do that?”
He was weak before wealth and honor.
Upon hearing Mont’s words, Yeager immediately chose to follow suit.
“Then, the five of you, please follow me.”
I tried to stop Yeager, who was chasing after him so eagerly, but then I halted in my tracks.
For some reason, the man named Mont had come to greet us so naturally.
There was no sense of unfamiliarity at all. It felt as if it had been planned from the beginning.
Planned… could it be that?
“Is this okay, senior? Last time, you said the Viscountess was Mr. Rue…”
Was it okay? There was no need to think complicatedly.
Because there was only one possible explanation for this.
mass release? don’t worry these chapters haven’t been translated in just one-two days guys lol
Thank you for the chapter!
This is not following bread crumbs to find Rue. It’s like he sent Daisy a taxi because to Rue she is like a directionally challenge child.
HAHAHA exactly!!
