For somebody/P, thank you for the ko-fi! ♡
<Episode 70>
The question was so abrupt that Malcolm found himself involuntarily stammering.
“For the body to break…”
Simultaneously, a striking realization hit his mind.
‘Could he be talking about that maid who looks partly like a corpse?’
It was astonishing. Hard to believe.
‘Such a young person?’
Malcolm was puzzled over Rue’s question.
Based on his brief statement, it seemed that maid Daisy had just reached the second stage.
‘The second stage is a phase of body reformation. If she had reached enlightenment after being pierced by a sword like this, she should have healed quickly, and only some scars should remain.’
Malcolm cautiously lifted his head and observed Daisy. She had a pitiful face, enough to make him unconsciously bite his tongue.
Furthermore, instead of scars, the blood from the stitched area seemed to still be moist. At just a glance, it was clear that the body reformation had not taken place.
‘…It can happen if the state of the body is so abnormal that the truth of mind and body unity does not apply.’
He had his suspicions.
“Lenya, go to the room and bring the Leleria magnifying glass. It should be in a turquoise metal box.”
“Yes, yes.”
Lenya, who had been standing like a shadow, quickly left the room.
The Leleria magnifying glass was a magical tool that could peer into souls. Originally developed for soul research purposes, it was an item that had been abandoned long ago due to its lack of practical results.
Malcolm carefully opened the box that Lenya had brought and said, “Calepa, I think I can provide some insight regarding the case you mentioned. However, I believe we should examine Miss Daisy’s soul first. May I have your permission?”
There was no answer.
The Calepa’s silence meant affirmation.
Malcolm tensely lifted up the magnifying glass.
Upon examining Daisy’s soul in detail, it was just as expected.
“As I thought… Miss Daisy’s soul appears to be intertwined with an unknown external force. It’s an incredible power.”
The soul had taken the form of a sphere.
When observed through the magnifying glass, Daisy’s soul was surrounded by a translucent mist, which was the unknown force that had infiltrated from the outside.
‘..No, wait. Something is different.’
Now that he looked closely, the mist wasn’t surrounding the sphere, but rather filling the cracks in the fragmented sphere.
“Oh my.” Malcolm instinctively let out a heavy exclamation.
“How is this young lady alive?”
His words failed to connect easily at the shocking sight.
“Her soul is shattered. It’s broken like a glass vase that has fallen on the floor. If the external force that infiltrated wasn’t acting as an adhesive…”
It wouldn’t have been able to maintain the form of a normal soul. It would mean she would be dead.
“At most, she has about 10 years. If she doesn’t reach the demi-god stage within 10 years, this maid will die.”
Daisy, the maid of the Weatherwoods, was doomed to die.
Sadly, there was no hope.
The demi-god stage was a level that couldn’t be reached even if one dedicated their entire life to it.
‘Poor thing.’
Somehow, however, Rue already seemed to know this.
“So, what can we do about that broken soul?”
Malcolm slowly swallowed his dry saliva.
In reality, he’d seen a soul like Daisy’s before, albeit a long time ago.
Although it wasn’t a pleasant experience, the past still vividly came to his mind.
“Calepa. The reason why Miss Daisy’s physical condition deteriorated as soon as she crossed the second threshold… is likely due to her soul being in a shattered state like it is now.”
“You must’ve seen a similar soul before.”
“Yes, that’s correct.”
Malcolm nodded heavily.
“I… during the magic war, we spied on Mephisto’s army for nearly seven years. Their aim was to reach the level of a demi-god without going through the enlightenment, to prolong their lifespans. They didn’t hesitate to resort to any cruel biological experiments for their purpose.”
Immortality had long been a dream of humanity.
Some of the followers who came into Rogue were fascinated by immortality.
Because those who surpassed the four stages of complete unity of body and mind could enjoy a life close to immortality.
However, the walls of mind and body were high, and depending on the person, the walls felt even higher.
The fewer twists and turns one experiences in life, and the more one enjoys a smooth existence, the harder it is to overcome the wall of mind and body.
Because it was an insurmountable wall, the yearning for it was even stronger.
Some followers, who felt increasingly frustrated because they lacked the power they couldn’t possess, began to question the teachings of Rogue.
“The methods of Rogue are outdated! If we continue to insist on methods that only benefit certain followers, we will only continue to be denied what we seek!”
The questioning followers began to search for a new ‘methodology’. During this process, strange and terrible incidents occurred one after another, and the followers were permanently exiled from the Northern Continental Union and the church with the stigma of being traitors.
The land where the exiled traitors arrived was here, the Penrotta Empire.
The Empire referred to them as Mephisto’s army.
“There were various experimental methods. Mixing two or more souls in one body, or dividing one soul into two or more. There were also cases where the souls of strong individuals or animals who had already crossed the wall were extracted, and even the purest souls or hearts were devoured. You can consider that all cruel and disgusting measures were employed.”
Malcolm recalled the terrible biological experiments that took place in the undergrounds of the temples.
“At that time, under the guise of a spy, I was supplying the Mephisto army with goods like Leleria’s magnifying glass or topographic maps to maintain a relationship. Once, I used the magnifying glass on the children who were being experimented on to prove its authenticity…”
“And you saw a similar soul?”
“Yes. The condition wasn’t as shattered as Miss Daisy, but the souls were filled with small and large holes, enough to be disturbing to watch.”
“…….”
“And an unknown force, spreading like fog, surrounded their souls. I remember it wasn’t just one of them.”
According to rumors, children with broken souls were particularly vulnerable to physical experiments on their bodies.
“According to how the experiment process went, their lifespans were either shortened or extended… Generally, they ended up with shorter lives.”
It seemed Daisy had safely passed the first stage. The unknown force that densely filled the gaps in Daisy’s broken soul – perhaps it was thanks to that force that she was able to endure it.
Rue, who was attentively listening to him with his eyes closed, asked.
“The force that surrounded the souls with holes?”
“Are you asking about the identity of the force? I don’t know exactly either. But I’m sure that something unknown was forcibly given to the children. I vaguely remember hearing their cries of not wanting to eat something.”
If it wasn’t his illusion, something seemed to flicker in Rue’s eyes when he heard that.
“…eat.”
However, Malcolm pretended not to understand that gaze and didn’t say anything more.
‘Curiosity kills the cat.’
For whatever reasons, Daisy was clearly a person the Calepa cherished. He didn’t want to offend him by saying any nonsense.
‘That maid… was probably one of the children who underwent biological experiments in Mephisto’s army. Coincidentally, the age matches perfectly.’
As Malcolm speculated alone, he felt a long-lost sense of deep self-loathing and self-disgust.
If only he had been more bold and tried to save those children. If he had, perhaps more children would still be alive by now.
‘Daisy becoming a maid in Weatherwoods… in a way, it could be considered fate.’
Then it was only right for him to take the responsibility to take care of her.
How much time passed?
Lenya, with a newly returned faint color on her face, let out a sigh of relief.
“Miss Daisy’s, um, breathing has become much more stable! I’ll go out and buy medicine. Please take care of Miss Daisy, my master.”
Lenya left the mansion with a considerably lighter heart.
Although it seemed like Calepa and the master had a difficult and complicated conversation, she, unable to understand properly, simply hoped for Daisy’s safety.
‘They said ten years at the longest, right?’
She remembered Daisy’s confident eyes when she accepted her reckless request.
‘But who knows, with the right eating habits and healthy food, maybe she can live longer than ten years.’
She had to take good care of her.
Daisy was not only a friend who listened to her difficult request but also a colleague in the same field who passed down excellent ironing skills!
Lenya, firmly determined, left the mansion with clenched fists.
* * *
Thirsty.
I’m so thirsty.
I’m very, very thirsty.
My throat is so, so, so….
Exhausted from enduring the thirst, I opened my eyes wide.
“M-Miss Daisy! Are you awake?”
Malcolm probably thinks Daisy’s around the age of the children because her body is in her early 20s
LENYA IS SO CUTE AAA
Btw, feeding you guys well eh? I posted 31 chapters of PLOM in august ( ≧ᗜ≦)
thank you again for the ko-fi, somebody/p. ^^
I couldn’t help myself and ended up translating these chapters too.
I’m going to force myself to take a short break for now and studyyyy okay
see ya maybe in a week? byee
Thank you for the chapter and good luck with your studies!
Oh, it was a simpler reason than expected… Now about unknown food, since Mephisto’s army is known to summon and control demons I will bet on demons’ hearts. That said, in Daisy case it should be remains of Mephisto’s soul as MC mention having their souls directly clash.
Ya te dije que te quería traductor? Porque lo hago jakskksk
Thank you so much for the chapters❤
Fue un buen mimo para nosotros uwu
See you the next week?
You know, I’ve recently been wondering a lot about how Daisy received the magic to become Andert. From what we’ve learned, the magic to completely transform someone’s body without a magic tool usually needs to be maintained by the wizard who cast it. Daisy isn’t a magic-user, or at least doesn’t understand the theory of it, so who was powerful enough to cast a permanent body modification spell on her? I’m wondering if she really was briefly captured.
Regardless, take a good rest! You’ve worked hard and I’ve really enjoyed the chapters!
that’s exactly what I’ve been wondering too actually! Daisy cannot use magic, which means someone else casted the spell for her, and she definitely went underground in her years as andert but the spell didn’t lift, suss
thank you for the ko-fi btw!
Thank you for the translation. You did a really great job of translating the explanation. Now the comments have made me wonder about the transformation of Daisy in Andlert. Also, the magic could work under ground if she brought the source of the magic with her. She must have broken her own soul to become Andlert.
