The Marquis' Lost Mistress

The door opened while Harsian was bowing his head to the ground in agony.

“The consultation is over. Come in and listen to the results together.”

The doctor was named Mita, a character he knew very well.

“Is there a reason why we should listen to it together?”

Mita was one of the few people who knew Harsian’s original identity.

So Harsian had gotten used to speaking to her informally.

“I heard you’re going on a journey together. It would be helpful to know what to watch out for.”

At Dr. Mita’s words, Harsian hesitated for a moment and entered the room with Leila’s luggage in hand.

He stood behind Leila, deliberately avoiding her gaze.

“There are no signs of a miscarriage.”

The doctor said.

Leila didn’t say anything. She knew well why the duke asked her to see a doctor.

In the midst of the turmoil, he must have gotten worried something might have happened to the child after Leila broke up with her beloved lover and signed a contract to sell her child. After she heard her child was fine, she had nothing more to say.

“Is the mother healthy? No, is she okay? What about the kid? Is he okay? If there’s any problem that could harm the mother…”

The child’s mother, Leila, was standing still. Meanwhile, the man behind her spoke out of the blue.

The doctor and Leila looked at Harsian at the same time. The two gazes made Harsian realize his mistake and he blushed. His questions seemed like those of a father making a fuss over his child.

“Modern medical technology can barely confirm the presence of a child.”

The doctor, who had a reluctant face, said.

“So I can’t be too sure if the child is okay.”

Leila turned away from the man standing behind her. He could see why he asked that question.

The man belonged to the Duke. The duke wanted a decent child to succeed him, so his handman would naturally want to confirm the facts.

“The mother is healthy.”

Even after the Doctor said so, Harsian did not believe it.

Looking at his face full of anxiety, the doctor sighed.

“Do you feel any pain?”

So, to reassure Harsian and find out Leila’s condition that could not be derived from a mere clinical test, she asked a question.

“In the waist, the lower abdomen, or the pelvis.”

Leila, who was about to answer no straight away, suddenly thought it over.

Recently, her back and pelvis hurt a lot. And she didn’t think much about it. It was because she knew that she had overdone it these past few days.

She visited downtown continuously for days with heavy thing in hand to sell.

She thought that’s why her back and pelvis hurt, because her posture was unbalanced when lifting heavy things. Leila stayed at home for several years and did very little exercise.

Of course, she thought it would have been hard on her body to lift something heavy suddenly.

“Not in the lower abdomen, but I do have a slight pain in my back and pelvis.”

“Do you happen to have chest pain?”

Leila glanced at the man behind her and opened her mouth hesitantly.

“It’s a little stiffer than usual, but it’s not enough to say it hurts.”

“You’d better not wear your upper body innerwear from now on.”

“What?”

Leila was embarrassed and unwittingly spat back at her.

“If you can’t do that, try to wear a size larger than usual.”

“Why?”

“If the chest pain gets worse, it can hurt just by touching the cloth. Isn’t it better to reduce the pain if possible?”

Leila lowered her head quietly and looked down at her raised chest.

Why is her heart hurting when she’s pregnant? Is it because she has to breastfeed her child?

She didn’t know she’d have anything left to give, but this body made a fool of her.

“Is there anything else that’s uncomfortable?”

Leila, who had been agonizing for a while, shook her head.

“Strictly…”

“I think you’ve lost a lot of weight. Do you eat all meals?”

Leila and the doctor’s eyes turned back again. This time, it was because Harsian made a silly comment.

“There seems to be something wrong with your complexion, so check it properly.”

Harsian blushed, but continued his words without bending his will.

Leila was a little surprised. It was all for his master he did that, but it was true she had lost weight.

Has Leila ever felt comfortable since she found out she was pregnant?

She was busy trying to give up her heart for Theon, organizing her relationship with him and making plans to live on her own.

Then, suddenly, he’d came from the duke and attacked her, so there was no day to relax for nearly three weeks.

Rice did not even so much as fall into her mouth, so there was no surprise she’d lost weight and her complexion had gotten bad. However, since she was originally skinny, it was difficult for her to notice it when she appeared with clothes.

She was surprised by the attentiveness of the man, which even the doctor had failed to possess.

“Do you have morning sickness?”

The doctor, who looked at the man with an amazed expression, asked Leila a question.

“Morning sickness?”

“Yes.”

Leila, who was asked the question, opened her mouth with a puzzled expression.

“What is that?”

The doctor and the man’s faced stiffened at the same time.

Pregnancy, childbirth, and sex education are taught by parents, usually by mothers to their daughters.

Depending on the way of education at home, the timing of teaching varies widely, but it is usually done at the beginning of the first period.

They start teaching at the age of 16 at the latest.

However, Leila was not aware of the pregnancy symptoms that even Harsian, a man, knew.

It was now they realized that Leila had lost her parents when she’d barely become an adult.

“Oh, I know roughly. I’ve read it in a book.”

Leila hurriedly opened her mouth as she saw the doctor’s expression hardened.

“But it didn’t state anything specifically, so I don’t fully know what it is or what the symptoms are…”

Leila’s voice shrank. she was embarrassed for some reason.

It was only natural not to know something you’ve never experienced or learned through your surroundings.

Nevertheless, ignorance itself evoked a sense of shame.

“It refers to nausea or vomiting that you feel during pregnancy. Or, you’ll get an appetite.”

The doctor quickly relaxed her expression and explained the symptoms of morning sickness that mothers experienced.

“Oh, there’s nothing in particular like that. I’ve never felt it before, and I had a sense of rejection when I ate food, but I think it was a psychological factor at play.”

Leila felt confused as she spoke. Recently, she felt sick when she put food in her mouth.

But it wasn’t to the point of nausea. When she thought about it, she had a lot to worry about because her stomach was originally weak.

“That’s a relief. I hope you eat properly from now on. The child will be healthy only if the mother is healthy.”

“Yes.”

The doctor took her eyes off Leila and looked behind her.

“Is there anything else you want to check?”

Harsian, who received the doctor’s gaze, opened his mouth with a worried face as he tried to nod.

“We’re going to ride a carriage from now on. Is that okay?”

She left her seat.

“Normally, it is better to advise against it.”

Then she took out two bags from under the desk.

“I’ll accompany you to observe, so you don’t have to worry too much.”

“Grandmother?”

At the doctor’s unexpected words, Harsian momentarily forgot about Leila’s presence and made a slip of the tongue.

“No, with the doctor?”

He hurriedly changed his words zt Leila’s gaze.

“Yes. I’ll stay with you until the birth even after we arrive at the prepared mansion. From now on, please call me ‘Mita’ comfortably instead of ‘Doctor’ or ‘grandmother’.”

Thus, Leila was accompanied by a person similar to a family doctor.

Harsian, a man who had not yet given his name to Leila, Mita, and Leila, rode in the carriage to the outskirts of the capital.

“Are you getting carsick?”

Throughout the journey in the carriage, Leila felt sick.

Come to think of it, she hadn’t been in a carriage for quite a while. After losing her parents, she only rode in a carriage when she went out with Theon.

It was when they visited downtown, theater, opera house, etc., or when they traveled for a meal.

Even that had become rare since Theon became busy in recent years.

So it’s been a long time since she rode a carriage, and thought it was only natural she’d get motion sickness.

“We’re here.”

The coachman of the rented carriage announced their arrival, and the three got out of the carriage.

As soon as she got off, Leila blocked her mouth with her hand for a moment due to the nausea that rose as soon as soon as she got up.

“Are you okay? You don’t look well…”

“I think I’m getting motion sickness because it’s been a while since I rode a carriage. That’s all right.”

The man, holding one of Leila’s bags and two of the old woman’s bags, asked nervously.

Leila gave a firm answer to his excessive concern and pulled her hand out.

“You can see it over there.”

Dr. Mita stretched out her finger toward the wall of the capital.

There stood a carriage with two horses connected and a pair of man and woman.

Perhaps the woman recognized them, she waved her hand and smiled.

“You might as well leave your bag with me…”

“That’s all right.”

Leila cut off the man’s words and followed Mita’s footsteps, holding her bag tightly.

“Hello, I’m Yuria who will take care of you from now on.”

“Hello. I’m the coachman, Mook.”

When Leila arrived in front of them, the couple introduced themselves. They looked like they were in their 40s. Leila glanced around them without saying a word.

It was funny they didn’t need to get an introduction to know who she was, and even funnier to say they would take good care of her. They were sent by the duke, so they would take good care of his needs.

She didn’t have to talk to them or get along well because she didn’t keep them around because she liked them.

All that mattered to her now was the person who would protect her child.

“Is it just both of you?”

“Yes, if you’re looking for something or we’re not good enough…”

It was a woman named Yuria who received Leila’s not very kind first words.

“The escort. I don’t see him.”

As soon as Leila finished speaking, people’s eyes turned to one place at once.

Leila turned her head to where they were looking, wondering.

There stood a man with three bags in his hand.

“Ah, I’m in charge of escorting, ha….”

While talking, the man sighed longly toward the floor.

“My name is Shan.”
