Chapter 06

Seung-jun looked at Sora with a detached expression.

Sora, holding a bag with documents, also faced him. They had just submitted the documents to JK Foods and were leaving the headquarters.

Sora thought she was lucky not to have looked at him, but then she found herself face-to-face with him.

“You’re not here to see me, are you?”

Seung-jun approached a fresh scent surrounding him.

Sora lowered her head slightly. She was wearing a mask and a hat, but it seemed like it was still obvious who she was.

“Yes, I’m just here for other business.”

She nodded and turned to leave but paused when she noticed Seung-jun still watching her.

“I want to ask you something.”

Sora was sure Seung-jun knew something about the incident between Yumin and Shin-young. She wanted to know why Yumin had hit Shin-young.

“You should make an appointment if you have a business,” Seung-jun said coldly, walking away without another word.

Sora bit her lip, reminding herself that they were no longer close, and he had no reason to stop for her.

“Someone said you should teach your kid better.

If they start hitting people like this, they won’t adapt to elementary school.”

Seung-jun stopped walking.

Sora realized that this must have been about his child and that he would probably care more about that than about her.

“Did that woman say that?”

Seung-jun’s gaze had changed as he turned to face her.

“I couldn’t answer. I didn’t even know what happened,” Sora said, trying to explain herself.

Seung-jun’s expression darkened, and he looked like he was getting angry.

“Follow me.”

He led her to a shabby café in a quiet alley that no one from the company knew about.

There was only one other couple in the café, a young man and a woman.

Seung-jun handed Sora a card and sat down.

She almost protested, but realizing there was no point in arguing, she used the card to pay.

As she did, memories of the past came rushing back—like the time she used to bring Seung-jun his favorite coffee after a long meeting.

“Now, tell me. What happened?” Seung-jun asked, his voice low.

Sora stiffened and sat up straight.

She knew she had to answer, but there was something she needed from him first.

“Before that, can you tell me what happened that day?”

Seung-jun raised an eyebrow, his expression slightly amused.

“If I tell you, can you handle it?”

“Of course. I’m Yumin’s mother, so I have to handle whatever happens with her.”

“Someone like you let Yumin hear those words?”

Seung-jun frowned. His words hit Sora, and her fists clenched without her noticing.

“After hearing that, you didn’t say anything, did you?”

Seung-jun’s words dug deeper.

“You didn’t have the power to do anything. You don’t have the money or influence to stop it,” he added, his voice cold.

Sora took out her wallet, saying, “It’s fine. Take this.”

She handed him a black card, but Seung-jun refused it, just like last time.

“I won’t use your money,” he said firmly.

Sora couldn’t help but feel that if she accepted his help, it would mean admitting that Yumin was Seung-jun’s child.

And that would mean Yumin would end up with him.

Just then, the couple sitting nearby got up and left. Seung-jun glanced at them and then looked at Sora, his face serious.

“I’m still waiting for you to tell me what happened,” he said.

The couple was talking in a quiet, affectionate manner, and Sora couldn’t help but notice the contrast with her past.

Seven years ago, she had been in a similar situation with Seung-jun.

Back then, after working late on a presentation, Seung-jun had been tired and offered her some advice.

He hadn’t said much, but she could see he trusted her.

“Let’s not make mistakes this time,” Seung-jun had said.

Sora had tried to comfort him, but it had all ended with a kiss, and things had spiraled out of control.

Now, it felt like that past was a dream, and Seung-jun was just a man she no longer had any ties with.

“I don’t want money to be everything,” Sora said, quietly.

“I didn’t love you for your money,” she thought. “I loved you because I believed you cared about me too.”

Seung-jun stood up and placed the black card back in his wallet.

“I have to go. If you need anything, contact me in advance.”

With that, he walked out of the café, leaving Sora with a heavy heart.

She closed her eyes and tried to hold back her feelings.
