Chapter 70
“What is it really?”
Evelia rested her chin and sighed.
‘I can’t believe there’s already a secret.’
In a way, it was natural for Ruth to have an unspeakable secret.
However, I felt bad when I heard that a secret was created not long after I thought we had become very close friends.
‘There will be more secrets in the future, right?’
I was just about to feel depressed for no reason. The door opened and Ruth stuck his head out.
“Huh? Ruth?”
Evelia, who had naturally thought that Annie had returned, got up in surprise.
“Where have you been? You’re not even in the training hall.”
“Oh, wait a minute, father and….”
But it was strange. Now Ruth was not wearing sword training clothes, but a neat shirt and pants. It smelled nice, as if it had just been washed.
‘What did you do with Cassis?’
Evelia tilted her head, but Ruth pulled his hand.
“Mom, I have somewhere to go with you for a little while.”
“Huh? What?”
The child’s arm strength was stronger than expected. Evelia was dragged away by the child without even being able to ask where she was going.
The place we arrived with Ruth was a large living room. When Evelia tried to grab the doorknob, Ruth hurriedly stopped her.
“Close your eyes.”
“My eyes? why?”
“Ju-just close them!”
What on earth have you prepared? Evelia roughly guessed what was going to happen inside, but in the end she closed her eyes.
Ruth took Evelia by the hand and went inside.
“Now, open your eyes!”
The moment I opened my eyes to the child’s loud words…
“Happy birthday!”
Evelia made eye contact with Cassis, who was holding a whipped cream cake.
The employees, including Ruth and Annie, sprinkled pollen on Evelia.
“Happy birthday!”
In that moment, Ivelia burst into tears, even though she didn’t want to. Cassis’ face blurred in confusion.
“Why”
“Just…”
Evelia tried not to cry, but once the tears broke out she had no intention of stopping.
Even though I knew that Ruth was fidgeting in front of me, wondering if he had done something wrong, I squatted down, covered my face, and continued to shed tears.
I couldn’t even figure out why I was crying like this. I was just surprised and happy about my first ever extravagant birthday party…
I cried because I loved this situation where everything was new.
Cassis, who was waiting for her to stop crying, eventually handed the cake to Annie and then knelt down on one knee in front of Evelia.
He carefully took Evelia’s cheek and lifted her face.
“Ugh, don’t look.”
Evelia held on to not show her face. Because my face covered in tears looked ugly.
But Cassis didn’t care and wiped her wet cheek with a handkerchief.
“Why on earth are you crying?”
“Just…”
“I heard that birthdays are good days.”
In the midst of all this, my heart ached when I heard, instead of ‘It’s a good day,’ he said, ‘I heard it was a good day.’
Cassis also doesn’t seem to have been properly celebrated on his birthday.
The more I got to know him, the more pitiful and similar he was to me.
“That’s right, birthdays are good days.”
“But why…”
“I cry because I love it.”
Evelia gathered her courage and looked directly into Cassis’s eyes.
When I was Han So-yoon, I didn’t consider my birthday special. My friends congratulated me, but not my family.
When I was young, I remember my father congratulating me, but as I entered middle school, my father replaced it with a simple text message congratulating me on my birthday.
So, So-yoon’s birthday wasn’t a very special day. To be exact, it was a day I wish had never happened.
Because I knew how sad it was to be lonely on a day that should have been happy.
That would have been the same for ‘Evelia’ as well. Her mother took care of her when she was young, but no one took care of her on her birthday at Venion Mansion.
That was the reason Evelia didn’t know her own birthday.
In other words, this was the first birthday she’d ever celebrated with the whole family.
Evelia couldn’t control her pounding heart for a moment and hugged Cassis’ neck.
Cassis stiffened and then hugged her waist.
“Thank you. For taking care of my birthday.”
“No, no.”
He stroked Evelia’s hair with his other hand and whispered.
“I can take care of it for you anytime.”
“Thank you very much.”
Ruth, who had been quietly watching, came rushing over.
“Me too!”
Evelia opened her arms and hugged Ruth as well.
It was a moment when the three families truly became one.
*****
“Did you and Ruth really make this?”
Evelia looked down at the whipped cream fruit cake with a surprised face.
The shape is so messed up that you might think it’s strange… No, I thought it was fresh, but upon hearing it, I realized that Ruth and Cassis had made it themselves.
In fact, several of the fruits that were precariously placed on the cake had already fallen onto the table.
‘Two people….’
I laughed thinking about the father and son who made this in the kitchen.
Ruth, who had been feeling discouraged because the cake didn’t come out as expected, gained courage from Evelia’s laughing voice and shouted.
“Yes! I made the dough, baked it, and even decorated it myself!”
“Did you?”
“Yes! Father also piped whipped cream using a piping bag.”
Evelia could no longer hold back her laughter. As Cassis burst into laughter, his face blushed more than ever.
“Is that that funny?”
“No, rather than funny….”
She whispered, wiping the tears from her eyes.
“Honestly, it’s a little funny.”
“Let’s eat quickly.”
Cassis changed the topic. Evelia put the small piece of cake she cut into her mouth.
“it is delicious.”
Even though it looked ugly, the taste was still edible. Then she chewed a small piece of eggshell but did not show it.
Objectively, the taste of the cake was not that delicious. The cake sheet, which was supposed to be moist, was dry, and some parts were salty due to the salt clumping together.
However, Evelia could say without hesitation that the cake she ate today was the most delicious she had ever eaten in her life.
Evelia cut the cake into bite-sized pieces with a fork and handed it to Cassis, who was just looking at the cake.
“You eat too.”
“I am…”
“Actually, you like sweet desserts too, right?”
Cassis closed his mouth as if thinking for a moment, then nodded.
“Yes. But my father said that sweet snacks are only for children.”
“Look at me. I like desserts like this too, but am I a child?”
Cassis shook his head. Evelia pressed the cake to his lips. White whipped cream was smeared on the red lips.
“My arm is hurt. Are you still not going to eat this?”
Cassis hesitated for a moment and then took a bite of the cake. Then, he lightly licked the cream on the corner of his mouth with the tip of his tongue.
Evelia cleared her throat loudly because the seemingly unremarkable appearance looked strangely strange.
“From now on, we will often eat dessert together. There’s nothing wrong with liking desserts. Right, Ruth?”
Ruth, who was smiling brightly while covering his cheeks with both hands, agreed.
“That’s right!”
“Okay, so you eat quickly too.”
Evelia put a fork and a cake plate into Cassis’s hands.
Cassis hesitated for a moment, looked at Evelia who was raising her eyebrows as if asking what he was doing, and then started eating the cake.
Then he frowned, wondering if he had chewed on a hidden egg shell or eaten a lump of salt.
“Next time, I’ll just leave the cake to the chef.”
Evelia ate the cake proudly.
“I like it. A cake like this.”
Ruth spoke as if declaring while looking at Evelia who was happy.
“From now on, father and I will take care of mom’s birthday. I’ll make you a cake too! Just the two of us with father!”
“In the future? really?”
“Yes, forever!”
Evelia covered her face because she felt like she was going to cry again.
“Mom, are you crying?”
“No, just…”
“Just?”
“It’s because I like it.”
Evelia smiled with a face that looked like she was about to cry. Ruth pursed his lips and hugged her neck, rubbing his face.
When Evelia, who was holding Ruth in her arms, stretched out her arms, Cassis also came stiffly and hugged them both.
“I’m really happy.”
For the first time, Evelia had a desire to be with this family for the rest of her life.
Aww :’) so sweet. Thank you for the updates <3
QUE LINDO CARA🥺🥺🥺❤️🤏
So cute…! 🥺🥺🥺
YES PLEASE STAY WITH THEM FOREVER
Awww 🤭🥹
I don’t know why I found this so funny, but when they said they sprinkled pollen on her I immediately thought she started crying because of bad allergies. Probably because my nose is so clogged… But they’re so cute! I probably would’ve cried if I wasn’t laughing 🤣
