The Male Lead’s Father Refuses to Break Off Our Engagement

MLFRBOE Chapter 69

Chapter 69

However, Logan, a competent aide, skillfully hid his true feelings and began to think together.

‘I thought madam might like a gift….’

But that wasn’t the only option. The most common things were, of course, dresses and accessories.

But when I said that, Cassis shook his head.

“It’s so ordinary.”

“Isn’t it good because it’s normal?”

“No.”

Cassis touched his forehead.

As Logan said, a nice dress and accessories were definitely good gifts. Evelia would probably be happy to receive it.

But will that be enough? Cassis wanted to make her something a little more personal.

It was then. Cassis raised his head at the sound of a cautious knock.

“Come in, Ruth.”

Then Ruth, with a surprised expression, stuck his head out.

“How did you know it was me?”

“I know when I hear your footsteps.”

“Ah.”

Ruth scuffed the toe of his shoe on the floor and twisted his body.

“Why are you doing that?”

“I want to quickly become a great knight like father. You can recognize someone just by the sound of their footsteps!”

“It’s wasn’t…”

Cassis, who was about to say, “It is not easy, and not just anyone can become a sword master,” closed his mouth.

‘I wonder what Eve would say.’

When I thought that Evelia would open her eyes and say, ‘You can’t do that!’, a smile automatically appeared on my face.

Cassis answered in a voice with a smile.

“If you work hard, it will be possible.”

Ruth widened his eyes in surprise.

“Why are you doing that again this time?”

“No, just…”

“……?”

“I think it’s the first time I’ve seen father smile like that.”

Cassis reflexively touched his face. But he couldn’t tell what kind of expression he was making.

Feeling embarrassed for no reason, he changed his stance.

“Anyway, what’s going on?”

“Ah!”

Ruth came briskly to his desk.

“It’s mom’s birthday soon.”

“Mom…”

Cassis paused as he tried to repeat the title, which still felt unfamiliar to him.

I really liked the way Ruth called himself father and Evelia his mother.

Because it really felt like family.

“So?”

“I want to make mom’s birthday cake myself…. this.”

Ruth’s voice became quieter as he went on.

“Ruth, when you speak, you must speak clearly and not mumble.”

“Oh, yes. So…”

Ruth, who was trailing off his words again, said “Oops” and closed his eyes tightly and shouted.

“I want to make it with father!”

It was Logan who reacted first. He coughed and cleared his throat, but eventually couldn’t control his expression and burst into laughter.

When Cassis looked at him, he hurriedly tried to stop laughing.

“No, that’s… I didn’t mean to laugh… Phew.”

“What’s so funny?”

“No, no. It’s not funny.”

Ruth clenched his fists and agreed.

“That’s right! It’s not fun! I’m serious!”

Cassis looked at Ruth and washed his face dry.

Then Ruth added:

“Well, wouldn’t Mom like it too?”

Wouldn’t mom like it too?

Mom would like it too…

Mom like it too…

Ruth’s words echoed in Cassis’ ears.

Cassis thought of Evelia’s happy face after receiving the birthday cake.

That brightly smiling face. Just thinking about it made my throat feel itchy.

Cassis stood up.

“Okay, let’s go.”

“Really?”

“Yes.”

Whether or not Logan was holding back his laughter, the father and son headed to the kitchen with serious faces.

And so Cassis and Ruth’s cake-making journey began.

*****

Cassis, who had suddenly followed Ruth to the kitchen, looked at the baking ingredients in front of him with a blank face.

The people in the kitchen, who thought only Ruth was coming, went into an uproar.

The kitchen maids pushed each other’s backs, asking for help, and the chef approached Cassis and Ruth with a face that looked like he was about to die.

“I-I mean….”

He calmly explained how to make a cake. Then he made a suggestion.

“It would be great if I make and decorate…”

“No!”

Ruth shouted.

“It’s meaningful when me and father do it.”

“Yes, but….”

The chef explained with a face that looked like he was about to cry again.

Cassis rolled up his sleeves and washed his hands and followed the chef’s instructions.

Actually, there wasn’t much to do. All he had to do was mix the pre-measured ingredients in order.

The problem was beating the meringue.

“I want to try it.”

Before I knew it, Ruth, wearing the apron the chef had given him, proudly held up a whisk and started whipping eggs.

Even though he gained physical strength by learning swordsmanship, Ruth was still a child and did not have much strength. By the time the bubbles started to bubble up, the child was exhausted.

“I will do it!”

The chef took advantage of that opportunity and tried to steal the bowl and whisk, but Cassis was faster than him.

Cassis took the whisk from Ruth and started whipping the eggs.

“Can I do it like this?”

“Yes, you can do that, but…”

The chef answered with a face that looked like he was about to cry.

He couldn’t understand why these noble people went to the trouble of making their own cakes.

If you just leave it to him, he will make a great cake quickly and easily.

“Don’t do that, we will work hard to make it. Oh, how about a three-tier cake?”

But the father and son were adamant.

“No! It’s meaningful if me and father do it ourselves!”

“No.”

In times like these, he was an aristocrat. While the chef was unable to do anything behind the scenes, Cassis worked hard at making the meringue.

It was a secret that Ruth saw and decided, ‘I want to become a great adult like that.’

Cassis didn’t have any tricks, but he had stamina and strength. Although he was slower than the chef, he made a decent meringue.

This time, they worked on sifting flour into the finished meringue.

Ruth climbed up the chair and diligently sifted the flour. However, because he was not used to it, flour flew everywhere.

Ruth’s clothes and Cassis’ clothes were covered in white flour. Not only that, the black hair of the father and son turned white as if snow had fallen.

The chef was shocked, and Ruth caught Cassis’s attention. Cassis, who casually brushed off the flour, looked at Ruth.

“What are you doing?”

Ruth smiled and sifted the flour again.

After that, with the help of Cassis, he added the ingredients one by one and mixed them.

When the dough was put into the oven, the father and son were covered in white powder, as if they had taken a flour bath.

“Pfft.”

Ruth burst into laughter first.

“Father, it’s so funny!”

The child held his belly button and started laughing. Cassis looked at his reflection in the silverware.

It seemed a bit ridiculous, but I wondered if it was something to laugh at like that.

But…

‘It seems kind of fun.’

A gentle smile was on Cassis’s lips as he brushed Ruth’s hair full of flour.

*****

Ruth has been acting strange a few days ago. It seemed like he was hiding something, but he never told me what was going on.

It was probably after hearing about Evelia’s birthday from Annie.

Evelia roughly guessed why Ruth was doing this, but asked just in case.

“Are you really not going to tell your mom?”

I asked several times, but the answer was always the same.

“I don’t have any secrets!”

Even today, Ruth was nowhere to be seen after disappearing while practicing swordsmanship with Cassis.

Evelia, tired of waiting for Ruth to arrive, went to the training hall, but the two were not there.

I heard from the knights who were training that the father and son did not come to the training ground at all today.

‘It’s strange…’

As Evelia tilted her head and looked out the window, Annie asked.

“What are you thinking so hard about?”

“I mean Ruth. Something’s strange these days. I thought he was preparing for a birthday party, but I don’t know where he went after skipping Cassis swordsmanship classes.”

Evelia never dreamed that Cassis would prepare for a birthday party with Ruth.

So I thought there must be another reason why Ruth disappeared with Cassis.

“Ah….”

Annie spoke vaguely. Evelia noticed the subtlety in her voice and shifted her gaze to her.

“Do you know anything?”

“No!”

This time, Annie’s voice rose strangely. When Evelia narrowed her eyes, she ran out of the room, saying she would bring refreshments.

I like that all of them are slowly healing from their past traumas and creating a family for themselves.

Cassius and Ruth are so adorable here.

  4. I love how Cassis started to think his actions through and instead of acting callously like he always does he considers “What would Evelia say?” in situations where he’s doesn’t know how to react.
