The Male Lead’s Father Refuses to Break Off Our Engagement

MLFRBOE Chapter 60

Chapter 60

Evelia sighed softly.

‘I can’t believe there was someone who actually came to visit.’

Perhaps this was Count Venion’s work. If you meet an unknown man here, you could get caught up in a strange scandal.

‘Actually, it seems like the scandal may have already started when the man came….’

Under the current circumstances, it seemed best not to meet anyone, as Logan had said.

“Say I won’t meet anyone I don’t know and send him back.”

“Yes!”

However, several more people visited after that. Some people eve brought bouquets of flowers and gifts. Of course I sent them all back.

“Maybe…”

Annie poured me some black tea and I didn’t know what to do. Evelia sighed, rubbing her itching temples.

“You should trust Lord Logan.”

It was then. This time, Laura, who had gone out to send them back, came running in.

“Lady, we’re in big trouble!”

There was no need to ask what was going on. This is because a man’s shouting came through the open door.

“The young lady asked me to meet her first! Shouldn’t you bring the lady right away?”

Evelia sighed once and asked.

“What’s happen?”

“A gentleman said he couldn’t leave until he met the lady….”

This was unexpected. Logan hadn’t told me how he was going to respond to this either.

‘Well, who would have thought that an order to refuse the guests would cause such a fuss?’

Evelia sighed again and asked Laura for a favor.

“Please call Logan.”

“Yes!”

It was not long after Laura went to call Logan.

Cassis’ voice was heard outside.

“What on earth is this fuss about?”

Evelia listened to the outside from inside her room.

Immediately afterwards, Cassis’ voice was heard clearly.

“Did you just call my fiancee by her name?”

*****

Cassis heard about this commotion sooner than Evelia. He knew better than anyone that she wouldn’t have done something like this.

She didn’t go out at night. She may have secretly climbed through the window at night, but would Evelia, who had never learned martial arts, been able to do that?

In fact, other than that, Cassis just trusted Evelia. She said she would do her best as long as she stayed married.

There was no way she was dating another man.

Perhaps Count Venion spread the rumor to prevent him and Evelia from getting married.

If it was Count Venion that he knew, that could happened.

But do other people think that way too?

Cassis knew how scary social gossip could be. Therefore, for Julia’s honor, he made Ruth his son.

But when I thought about Evelia being talked about by people, my anger soared.

Cassis was preparing to meet the editor of the Trevisi newspaper in person when he heard a commotion outside.

“How dare you! Do you know who I am? Bring Lady Venion right away.”

It was a male voice. Why on earth is the man looking for Evelia?

As soon as Cassis heard Evelia’s name, he left the room without hesitation. The commotion was happening in the hall on the first floor.

The hall was already a mess. A man holding a bouquet of flowers in one hand was trying to come in, and the employees were desperately trying to stop him.

“You can’t do this!”

Cassis slowly walked down the stairs. The faces of the employees who discovered him were half relieved and half worried.

“You seem to have forgotten where this place is.”

The man paused for a moment and began to hiccup, perhaps because he didn’t know if Cassis would show up in person.

An obscene hiccuping sound spread through the hall where the man’s shouts echoed.

“Who sent you?”

“I, I wanted to see Evelia…”

Cassis’s momentum became more fierce.

Did you just say ‘Evelia’? How dare he say a name he’d never use. This was not a situation to be taken lightly.

“Did you just call my fiancee by her name?”

The man gasped and covered his mouth. Cassis slowly approached and grabbed the man’s face.

“Say it again.”

“I-I-I’m sorry.”

The man rolled his eyes. The eyes were asking for help, but no one came forward.

“Who sent you?”

“Lady Venion asked me to come visit her…”

Cassis’s hands gained more strength. The man’s face turned white.

“That’s the only reason you made such a fuss here? How dare you?”

The man must have felt the seriousness of the situation and confessed.

“Actually, Count Venion…!”

Upon hearing the answer, Cassis’ eyes glowed even more fiercely.

*****

The owner of the Trevisi newspaper broke into a cold sweat. The person in front of him was none other than Cassis Adelhard.

‘Du-Duke himself is coming.’

I expected that the Duke of Adelhard would contact me when today’s newspaper was published. But the owner remained steadfast.

Although he made the Duke Adelhard’s fiancée a subject of gossip, he was not talking about something that did not exist. If he complained, I could confidently say I had evidence.

However, I had no idea that Duke Adelhard would respond directly, or that he would even come to the newspaper office.

Moreover, Cassis’s energy was so fierce that the owner felt as if his throat was being cut by his fierceness.

My throat actually felt sore. So he checked several times to make sure his neck wasn’t bleeding.

“Well, the tea…”

“I don’t need it.”

Cassis coolly dismissed the idea and crossed one leg and smoothed the end of the cane he was holding.

Every time he raised the tip of his cane with his thumb, the blue sword was slightly visible and disappeared.

It was like that. What Cassis was holding was not just a cane, but a sword.

I really thought he would swing his sword here, but my opponent was the great Duke Adelhard. A man who can cut down his opponent without blinking.

The owner swallowed dry saliva and laid down as flat as possible.

“Well, what brought you here….”

“Why are you asking me that? You probably know it well.”

“If you are talking about today’s article…”

Cassis drew his cane sword a little wider and then sheathed it.

“Since when did the Trevisi newspaper become a place to spread rumors?”

“Rumor!”

The owner was shocked and waved his hand.

“We sent you a letter this morning, but we have proof! It may be hard for the Duke to believe, but there is more than one person who said they saw Lady Venion at the masquerade ball.”

“Masquerade ball. Since when do you start believing the stories told at masquerade balls?”

The owner was caught off guard and kept his mouth shut.

‘That’s right.’

What happened at the masquerade ball is buried there. Even if stories from there come out in the open, people dismiss them as nonsense. Because it has no credibility.

Of course, there are people who gossip about it, but it is not something that newspapers should write about publicly.

However, the owner was so excited that he had a scoop that he urged the editor to write an article.

“Besides, they said she had pink hair.”

“A hair color that can be easily changed with a wig or magic.”

“But….”

“Lady Venion is currently protected at the Adelhard Mansion. She has never gone out at night. Everyone at the Adelhard Mansion can testify to that. Still, can you be certain that it was Lady Venion who appeared at the masquerade ball?”

“Uh, uh…”

This isn’t it. The owner finally realized that things were going strangely.

‘Wasn’t it just an arranged marriage?’

People made various speculations about the meeting between Evelia and Cassis.

There was a lot of talk about whether it was an arranged marriage or a love marriage, and there was also speculation that Count Venion was taking advantage of Adelhard’s weakness.

The owner insisted that there was no way the two would get married for love.

An arranged marriage doesn’t make sense, but there was too little contact between the two to call it a love marriage.

Besides, I couldn’t imagine Cassis loving someone passionately.

So, I thought that if this rumor spread, the Duke of Adelhard would kick out Evelia Venion.

I didn’t expect this kind of reaction.

‘It could have been a love marriage!’

Cassis Adelhard of all people is in love with a woman!

More cold sweat began to run down the astonished owner’s back.

Cassis stood up, looking expressionless at the owner white face.

“The Trevisi newspaper will pay for its work today.”

“Du-Duke!”

The owner lost all respect and clung to Cassis’ leg.

“We made a mistake. We will publish a correction article right away, so please show mercy just once…”

Cassis hit his arm with his cane and walked away without hesitation.

He never gave a second chance.
