Chapter 35
Apparently, Countess Venion had no intention of sending Annie to Duke Adelhard’s residence. Seeing that Annie hasn’t come yet.
‘If you don’t want to send her, I have no choice but to pick her up myself.’
Evelia got off the carriage and proudly entered the Venion mansion.
The maids who spotted her whispered with wide eyes, but she didn’t care.
Only one thing that was important to Evelia: Annie’s whereabouts.
“You.”
The maid pointed out by Evelia was dumbfounded.
“Me?”
Evelia, who had been timid while living at the Venion Mansion, seemed strange when she suddenly changed.
“Where is Annie? My exclusive maid.”
“I don’t know. Even if I know, why should I tell you?”
It was a disrespectful attitude. The original Evelia would have thought that such treatment was natural.
But now it was different.
Evelia walked slowly toward the maid.
The shadow cast over her head frightened the maid, and she took a few steps back.
It was clearly the same person from a moment ago, but it didn’t look like the same person.
Evelia, standing in front of her, felt the aristocratic sense of intimidation.
“I ask you again. Where is Annie?”
Obviously, Evelia didn’t do anything, but the maid was shocked as if she had been slapped on the cheek. She swallowed her saliva and said.
“Annie is at the laundromat right now…”
“At the laundromat? My exclusive maid?”
The laundromat was reputed to be the most difficult job in the mansion. It was as if Annie had been demoted without Evelia.
‘I knew it would be like this.’
Evelia turned to go to the laundromat at the back of the mansion.
At the top of the stairs, I heard the voice of a person I didn’t want to run into.
“What kind of stranger dares to come here?”
It was Derek Venion. Using a cane, he limped down the stairs. His eyes looking at Evelia were fiercer than before.
“I heard what you did to my mother. She said you kicked her out by treating her as uninvited guests? How dare you!”
Evelia walked up to Derek in wide strides.
“She was treated like an uninvited guest because she is. Did you guys expect me to treat her as a guest when she always treats me as an uninvited guest in this mansion?”
After what Count Venion and his wife had done to her, Evelia was visible.
Moreover, the opponent is Derek, who has a broken bone and can’t even walk properly.
Evelia boldly kicked Derek’s injured leg and whispered so that no one could hear.
“Be careful. If you don’t want to fall again. This time it won’t end with a broken leg.”
Perhaps realizing something from Evelia’s words, Derek screamed hysterically.
“You, you! What the hell did you do to me? Do you think you will be able to live peacefully?”
Evelia shrugged once and kicked his other leg.
Derek, who had been staggering, grabbed the stair railing and managed to keep his balance.
“You better watch your mouth, I warned you, in a few months I’ll be the Duchess of Adelhard.”
The last warning was a warning from a fox borrowing the power of a tiger, but this time it’s different.
Evelia signed a formal contract with Cassis, and when she said she wanted to cut ties with Venion, he agreed.
If Evelia told the story in detail today, and if Evelia wanted Venion to pay for the price, Cassis was the type of person who would do it.
He is a person without blood or tears, but for some reason I thought that he would do it.
“So you better take care of yourself, too.”
Evelia laughed at Derek, whose face was red from insult, and then headed straight to the laundry at the back of the mansion.
Annie was some distance away from the laundromat maids. Even at first glance, she seemed to have a lot of laundry compared to other maids.
I was not in a good mood. No matter what anyone says, Annie is the only person in the mansion who treats her without prejudice…
Evelia bit her lip once and then walked over to Annie.
“Annie.”
“La-lady?”
She held Annie’s swollen hand tightly.
“Let’s go.”
Annie blinked her eyes as if she didn’t understand.
“Wh-where have you been?”
“In Duke Adelhard’s residence.”
“Pardon?”
“I will explain later. Just follow me.”
Evelia dragged Annie’s hand through the laundry, not paying attention to the maid’s gazes.
It was when she was about to climb into the carriage.
“What kind of commotion is this?”
Count Venion waved off the servants and approached. Evelia hurriedly take Annie into the carriage, closed the carriage door, and stood facing the Count.
“It’s been a while, Count.”
Count Venion’s lips twisted in disapproval.
“What is this fuss about? Evelia.”
“I came to pick up my exclusive maid. As you seem to have forgotten the promise you made to send her to Adelhard.”
“Even if I came here looking for a maid, shouldn’t you greet your father after visiting the mansion?”
Evelia couldn’t help but chuckle. Count Venion’s eyes grew fierce.
“Are you laughing at this situation?”
“I don’t know what kind of father you mean. I’ve never been treated like a daughter by the Count.”
“Evelia.”
Hearing the enraged voice of the Count, Evelia bowed politely.
“I’ll bow to you, if you wish, and then I’ll take my leave.”
“Evelia!”
“Ah, yes.”
As she was about to climb into the carriage, she turned around and looked at the Count.
“I received the gift you sent me well.”
“Gift?”
“The one who claims to be my mother.”
The Count cleared his throat once.
“Claim? First you pretend not to recognize your father, and now you don’t even recognize your own mother?”
“Count. Do you remember the promise you made to me 14 years ago?”
Evelia recalled the past, brought back to her by the dream she had last night.
“You promised to send a doctor to my mother if I follow the Count to the Venion family.”
“I did, so….”
“But you didn’t send a doctor.”
“What do you mean? I certainly did send a doctor.”
Unlike the Countess, the Count was good at managing facial expressions. In addition, because of her age, Evelia would have been fooled if she hadn’t known the truth.
‘I’m glad I asked Samuel in advance.’
Evelia recollected what she had heard from him.
“This is the news I heard from a reliable source.”
“……”
“Since you didn’t send the doctor you promised, there was no reason for me to remain in this family in the first place.”
“That is not true. You are not my daughter!”
“No, I am not. If the Count was really my father, he wouldn’t treat me like that.”
Instead of leaving her beloved mother, young Evelia felt fortunate to have found a father she never knew existed.
The eight-year-old sobbed at night seeing her mother, but consoled herself with the knowledge that she had a father.
What the hell did Count Venion say to her?
―If you want to be my daughter, be a perfect noblewoman.
In order to be recognized by him, Evelia worked hard and tried again.
Even though she was despised by her tutor for being lowly because she had commoner blood, she learned how to greet and walk, and practiced table manners until her hands hurt.
In this spacious mansion where no one treats her warmly, the child did her best.
But all that returned was the Count’s cold gaze.
When she grew up and learned the reality of the illegitimate child, she began comforting herself in a different way.
―But thanks to coming here, I was able to save my mother. Later, when I become an adult, I will be able to see my mother.
Even if her mother was alive, the chance of meeting her was close to zero. However, Evelia lived holding on to that tiny thread of hope.
However, the mother she wanted to meet in the first place was not in this world.
Even the current Evelia, a stranger, is angry enough to tremble. What if the original Evelia knew about this?
Poor ‘Evelia’, stupid ‘Evelia’.
Even as she thought that, Evelia pitied her.
Evelia in the past was similar to So-yoon. So-yoon from the past who worked hard in her current position, dreaming of meeting her family someday.
At least So-yoon had a real family to meet, but there was no one for ‘Evelia’. Her mother would have been alive if Count Venion sent a doctor right away.
So I couldn’t stay away. So she thought of doing the same to those who had bullied her.
“I have nothing to do with Venion anymore. So please don’t contact me in the future. Please don’t try to use me to gain any advantage.”
Evelia spoke in a low-pitched voice and climbed into the carriage.
I’m so mad for her. I hope the Venions get their just desserts. 😡😡😡
That’s so heartbreaking. That son-of-a-b*tch Venion! He better get the payback he deserves. The rest of the family too. 😡😭
