Chapter 10
Just like yesterday, it was still a busy morning. Muriel had offered to help the lady with her preparations, but Elizabeth declined. In the end, Lynn had to assist the lady all by herself from early morning.
“I’m sorry, I should be helping.”
“The lady said she didn’t want that. Since I’m going to the picnic too, it’s easier for me to do it.”
“I’ll go next time. You’ll have a tough day today.”
“It’s fine. This much is nothing.”
“It would be nice to go together. Why does the lady only take you?”
Muriel’s face showed little sign of remorse. She answered cheerfully, forcing a bright smile.
“Maybe it’s inconvenient to take two maids.”
“It’s because you’re the one who’s tired.”
“I’m really okay. The lady must be waiting. I’ll go up quickly.”
“Alright. Hurry up. I’ll do the laundry today instead.”
“Thank you.”
Once she left her quarters, she hurriedly went to the second floor, where the lady’s room was. The sun was just beginning to rise. The garden, caught between morning and dawn, felt quite chilly.
Although they had chosen the outfit and accessories for the picnic yesterday, the fickle lady could immediately decide to start over from scratch.
So, she had to move early. She would surely be late for their appointment if she relaxed even a little.
Lynn carefully opened the lady’s door. Approaching the bed, she gently pulled back the curtains. Elizabeth had insisted on being woken up early the night before.
“Lady, you need to wake up.” She carefully shook the lady’s shoulder. Elizabeth showed no signs of wanting to get up, and Lynn felt flustered, but there was no other choice. It was better to wake her up than to be late for their appointment.
After shaking her a few more times, Elizabeth finally opened her eyes.
“You need to get ready. We’re going on a picnic today.”
At Lynn’s words, Elizabeth’s previously furrowed brow relaxed. Unlike usual, she got up without irritation and moved to the bathroom. After a thorough wash, the long process of getting ready began.
As expected, the dress they had chosen yesterday was rejected. Everything started over from the beginning. Lynn felt tired even before the picnic had started, but she didn’t show it.
She carefully applied makeup and neatly styled the lady’s hair. If she exerted too much effort, it would show how much the lady’s looking forward to the picnic, so she aimed for a balance—pretty but not overly extravagant. It was not easy, despite her best efforts to meet the lady’s picky demands.
“Isn’t this too flashy? Oh, the gems are too small. What should I do? I don’t like any of it.”
“How about this one, my lady? I think it would match your hair color nicely.”
“Sapphire?”
Elizabeth tilted her head at Lynn’s suggestion. It was a necklace with small, simple stones that she usually didn’t wear. Lynn held the necklace up to Elizabeth’s neck and continued explaining.
“Yes. The stones aren’t big, so it doesn’t look flashy, but it’ll appears neat yet elegant.”
“Really? Ugh! I don’t particularly like it. But if I keep delaying, I’ll be late, right?”
Accepting that there was no choice, Elizabeth simply sigh as she listened to Lynn’s words. Lynn spoke in a worried tone to reassure her.
“Yes. You need to have breakfast too.”
“I don’t need breakfast. I just need to look pretty.”
“Are you sure you’ll be okay?”
“Yeah. How do I look? Do I seem graceful and beautiful?”
Elizabeth examined herself in the mirror, turning this way and that.
“You look truly beautiful.”
Lynn’s compliment brought a faint smile to Elizabeth’s face.
It wasn’t a lie. Unlike Lynn’s dull silver hair, Elizabeth’s hair was shone with a deep black hue. Her clear blue eyes resembled the sky, with a straight nose and red lips. She was a stunning beauty.
She had a different aura from her brother Martin. While he appeared cold when silent, Elizabeth looked somewhat aloof but was not difficult to approach.
Perhaps that was why, she thought she was a princess when Lynn first saw her. Until she experienced the lady’s true nature.
When she received her first slap, she couldn’t accept the reality. Denying the situation as if it were a dream. Her face burned, and her ears rang, but she couldn’t believe it. How could such a beautiful person be violent?
