The Last Demon God

The Return of the Demon God

“Three hundred million years have passed since I left this continent. The human race seems to have developed quite rapidly. I wonder if there are any formidable beings born who can kill me?”

A disheveled man in black clothes strolled through the bustling streets.

Although he appeared to be in his early twenties, his eyes were deep and cold, filled with endless agelessness. It was as if he had crossed the river of time and could see through all things in the world.

No one would know that this seemingly young man had actually lived for a full three hundred million years!

Three hundred million years ago, during the primordial era of the continent, there were no humans, no mythical beasts or other races, and even the ancient dragon race had not yet come into existence.

The civilization that ruled that era was the legendary Demon God clan.

As they say, what rises must eventually fall. When the Demon God civilization was at its peak, a chaotic war among the Demon Gods erupted.

Jiang Yuan, the inheritor of the Demon God lineage, became the only surviving Demon God in that great war.

In that Demon God war, Jiang Yuan lost everything he held dear and as a result, comprehended the laws of time becoming an eternal and indestructible being.

Over these 300 million years, he observed the changing tides of time, encountered the rise and fall of the dragon race, and witnessed the birth of the human race.

In the countless cycles of slumber and awakening, he gradually grew tired of the mundane world.

In those boring and endless years, he had experienced 99.81 million suicide attempts, tried 7,749 different ways to die, and tasted poisons that could wrap around the world three times. Yet, he remained stubbornly alive.

Three million years ago, he unlocked a new way to die, decisively flying into the sun, and plunging into an endless sea of fire.

But even after 3 million years of burning, his physical body still couldn’t be incinerated; instead, it became even stronger through the tempering.

So, he could only hold onto the last strand of hope and return to the continent in search of someone who could kill him.

“Death has become a luxury for me,” he sighed as he looked at his eternally unchanging hands, filled with weariness.

He had thought that the high temperatures at the sun’s core would be able to incinerate his physical body, but the result left him disappointed.

Just as Jiang Yuan was feeling lost, a commotion came from the end of the street.

“Help! There are monsters!”

“Everyone, run! South Town is under attack!”

Jiang Yuan followed the voices and saw the pedestrians on the street panicking and fleeing in all directions.

At the same time, a five-meter-tall werewolf appeared at the end of the street.

It walked upright on two legs, wielding a massive metal battle-axe and wearing crude metal armor.

With a single swing of its axe, an elderly man leaning on a cane was cleaved in half, his intestines spilling onto the ground.

With a single step, a pregnant woman who couldn’t escape in time was crushed into a pulp, her head bursting like a watermelon, brain matter and blood splattering everywhere.

“Father!”

“My wife!”

“Beast, I’ll fight you to the death!”

The emotions of the deceaseds’ family members spiraled out of control as they charged at the werewolf in a frenzied manner, only to be reduced to a bloody pulp.

In just a few moments, several innocent townsfolk had met a gruesome end at the hands of the werewolf.

Despair was written on the faces of everyone witnessing this horror.

“Monster, with the South Town’s Four Swordsmen here, you won’t get away with this!”

With a loud shout, four sword-wielding warriors emerged from the panicked crowd, and moved to surround the werewolf.

“It’s the Four Swordsmen of the South Town, the strongest four in our town! With them around, I feel safe!”

“They are all martial artists at the third level of the Body Refinement Realm, they should be able to easily deal with this monster!”

Seeing the four swordsmen, the people’s eyes were filled with hope as if they had found a lifeline.

In human society, martial artists were highly respected.

The martial path had eight major realms, ranging from Body Refinement Realm, Qi Condensation Realm, True Martial Realm, Martial Master Realm, Martial King Realm, Martial Ancestor Realm, Martial Sovereign Realm, to Martial Emperor Realm — each divided into nine sub-levels.

While considered the lowest level of martial artists, Martial artists at the third level of Body Refinement Realm were still top-tier experts in this remote little town where martial artists were rare.

“Human swordsmen? Not worth my time!”

The werewolf sneered disdainfully and suddenly swung its massive axe.

Swish—

A streak of axe shadow swept by, and the precious swords in the hands of the four men instantly shattered, their bodies split in half at the waist!

With just one move, all four of them died simultaneously!

This shocking scene left the entire crowd in disbelief.

“No…this can’t be! They were all…instantly…”

“Even the South Town’s Four Swordsmen were killed in seconds… What level is this monster?!”

“Is there anyone left who can save us?!”

People began to flee in all directions, some hiding in houses, some disappearing into narrow alleys, and others escaping out of town.

In the blink of an eye, the street was completely deserted except for Jiang Yuan, who remained calmly in place.

“Is this a monster?” Jiang Yuan looked at the werewolf, and an unusual expression of surprise appeared in his weary eyes because it was very different from the monsters he remembered from 3 million years ago.

Three million years ago, monsters did not possess intelligence, could not walk upright, and certainly couldn’t wield weapons.

But now, this werewolf not only had intelligence but also walked upright, used weapons, and could even speak the human language. It was a stark contrast to what Jiang Yuan remembered.

While Jiang Yuan was lost in thought, the werewolf had already approached him, and stared at him with a mocking glint in its crimson eyes like a predator eyeing its prey.

Facing the werewolf so close, Jiang Yuan remained expressionless. There was no fear, no nervousness, no anger, and not even any emotion in his eyes.

Meanwhile, those who were hiding at a distance watched Jiang Yuan with growing anxiety while feeling beads of sweat forming in their palms.

“Why hasn’t that man run away when the South Town’s Four Swordsmen have all been killed?”

“He’s probably paralyzed with fear. Poor guy is about to meet a gruesome end at the hands of the monster…”

When Jiang Yuan created humans, he had simply copied the appearance of the Demon God. So the appearance of humans was essentially the same as that of the Demon Gods. This led the humans to mistake Jiang Yuan for one of their own kind.

“Human, aren’t you afraid of me?” The werewolf asked with some curiosity, puzzled by Jiang Yuan’s lack of fear.

“What is fear?” Jiang Yuan asked curiously, “I can’t quite remember what that feels like.”

Because he had lived for a full 300 million years, he hadn’t experienced emotions like fear, nervousness, or terror since the Demon God war three hundred million years ago.

Even basic emotions like anger, joy, and shame had gradually faded away in the river of time.

Now, he only felt a deep sense of weariness with the world, devoid of any other emotions.

“Do you want to experience it? I can grant you that wish,” the werewolf said as it raised its massive axe, hovering it over Jiang Yuan’s head.

Staring at the axe suspended over his head, Jiang Yuan remained emotionless.

“I still can’t feel it.”

“Do you want to die?” The werewolf furrowed its brows, sounding displeased.

Jiang Yuan’s eyes were hollow and lifeless, revealing a face of world-weariness.

“Yes, I do. Living for so long has become incredibly boring. Death would be a release.”

The werewolf was slightly taken aback, clearly not expecting a brief-lived human to say such a thing.

“Since you want to die, I’ll grant your wish!”

The werewolf sneered and raised its massive axe, then swung it down towards Jiang Yuan’s head.

Up until that moment, Jiang Yuan remained standing in place showing no intention of evading or defending.

As for the onlookers hiding in the distance, they couldn’t bear to watch and turned their heads away, already imagining Jiang Yuan being split in half.

But what happened next completely shattered their understanding.

When the massive axe struck Jiang Yuan’s head, he didn’t split in half. Instead, his entire body abruptly sank into the ground.

Boom!

With a deafening roar, the street beneath Jiang Yuan’s feet instantly caved in, creating a five-meter-wide crater. Spiderweb-like cracks extended outward from the pit, and countless stone fragments were shaken loose from the ground.

Despite the destruction of the street, Jiang Yuan’s body remained unscathed, not a single hair on his head was severed.

On the other hand, the metal axe in the werewolf’s hand now had a head-shaped dent in it!
