The Extra Guardian Missed the Right Time to Leave

CHAPTER 023

Ah.

Eugenia gave a short exclamation as if she agreed.

“As for doing it.”

Eugenia nodded and muttered.

“It would definitely be much more efficient in terms of time if I dressed up as a noble lady.”

He may have been able to imitate a noble lady, albeit clumsily, but it was obvious that this man would do it wrong from the beginning. He was a man who seemed to have never bowed down to anyone in his life.

Enrique was that much handsome and had a strong presence.

‘A man like this can’t imitate an ordinary commoner.’

No one would believe it in the first place.

Enrique sent his thanks.

“Thank you for your quick decision.”

“You’re welcome.”

After that conversation, the two just walked without saying anything for a while. Surprisingly, it was Enrique who broke the silence and spoke first.

“I have a question.”

“Yes? What is it? Please speak.”

Enrique’s question flew in as if he had been waiting for permission to be given.

“Are the twin brothers you mentioned the children listed on that wanted badge?”

Eugenia immediately shook her head.

“No. Absolutely not.”

She strongly denied it again and again.

“I don’t have a gang.”

When Enrique raised an eyebrow as if to ask what she meant, Eugenia protested in a somewhat unfair tone.

“Do you know how difficult it is for a woman to take care of two children alone?”

Did he really need to know that? Because it was a life that had nothing to do with him and a life he would never know about, Enrique didn’t pay much attention.

‘I have no intention of listening to your complaints.’

His lips tilted awkwardly as he wondered how to explain this.

It was then. Eugenia muttered in a weak voice.

“It’s very hard work…”

She looked quite tired and troubled.

Eugenia sighed without realizing it and spoke again.

“And think about it. If I were really the kidnapper, would those kids follow me obediently?”

She continued to complain, saying that it was extremely unfair.

“If that were the case, they probably wouldn’t have even come all the way from the capital?”

As soon as she finished her words, which she had casually confessed as if she were complaining, Eugenia made an expression of regret. Because she had inadvertently revealed that she had set off from the capital of the principality.

She was as hard as a stone.

‘Uh, what should I do?’

She could hardly lift her gaze from the floor. After staring at the floor for a while, she cautiously rolled her eyes and glanced at Enrique. He was a very perceptive man, so he must have noticed his mistake in speaking. Still, his expression didn’t seem to have changed at all from before.

‘Did you not hear it?’

She had such expectations deep inside. But then, the two people’s eyes met.

Enrique noticed that Eugenia was uncomfortable and was watching her, so he spoke in a nonchalant tone.

“If you’re worried, you can step away.”

At that moment, Eugenia’s eyebrows drooped.

‘Look at this. As expected, you understood.’

Enrique repeated.

“I’ll pretend I didn’t hear that just now.”

Well, she guessed she should say thank you.

“Haha, could you please?”

Eugenia smiled, pulling up the corners of her mouth and frowning, her face looking as if she was about to cry. Meanwhile, Enrique chuckled to himself.

‘I don’t think the answer she gave to my question was a lie.’

Sometimes, a person’s eyes and confident attitude reveal everything more honestly than words. Enrique knew this better than anyone else, so he kept a close eye on Eugenia’s occasional unconscious remarks and actions.

‘The tone is unfair. She is just worried about getting caught, she is not afraid.’

Those words were consistent with Eugenia’s sincere confidence in herself. Above all, he believed in himself. Enrique thought that my ability to see people, at least, did not depend on the soles of his feet.

“Then go.”

Enrique gestured again.

Eugenia, who understood that he meant to guide her to her inn, looked in front of her again and began to walk heavily. Her shoulders sank slightly lower than before, perhaps because she was overly conscious of her own mistakes.

How long did it take to walk like that?

Finally, Eugenia’s steps stopped again.

‘We have already arrived.’

She only stayed there for a few days, but it has already become a familiar place.

‘By the way… Wow, what a comparison.’

Compared to the place where Enrique was staying, this place was so poor that it could be called a stable. Puddles of water had suddenly formed on the uneven ground, and there was a lot of trash strewn around the building. Even the signboard had its strings cut off and was falling to pieces in the rain.

Its appearance was so shabby that Eugenia felt slightly embarrassed.

“Here… This is the inn where my younger siblings and I are staying.”

Her words became more blurred towards the end, as if she were embarrassed. Meanwhile, there was no response from Enrique.

After a while, a heavy sigh escaped his lips.

“Whoa… I could never have imagined this.”

Enrique muttered without hiding his displeasure and displeasure for the first time in a while. Eugenia couldn’t understand the coldness of his voice, but tried not to get on Enrique’s nerves and looked into his eyes.

“Is there a problem?”

Enrique looked back at her, his brow slightly furrowed. There was a slight rebuke in her eyes, as if she was asking a question because she really didn’t know.

Eugenia slightly grumbled, feeling somewhat annoyed by that gaze.

“I’m asking because I don’t know. If you don’t tell me, there will be no way to know in the future.”

As she opened up about her beliefs, Enrique scratched his temple.

“Just a little… It’s just because it looks dangerous.”

“…yes?”

Eugenia blinked her eyes and then blushed.

‘No, Eugenia. Let’s not be discouraged. This is my best.’

After straightening her back and clearing her throat, she deliberately raised her voice.

“It looks a bit weird, but inside… It’s not as bad as you think.”

“That’s a good thing.”

Enrique nodded and took a look at the inn’s exterior.

“Still.”

Then he looked straight at Eugenia and continued his words.

“I think it would be better to move to where I am staying. What do you think?”

Eugenia’s eyes widened at his sudden suggestion. Her mind instantly went blank and her words could not come out easily. She barely calmed down as she stammered, clutching the edges of her paper bag containing her candy.

“It’s okay… There might be a room at the inn over there.”

It was an attractive offer, but she decided to decline it because she felt it would be shameless to say so. However, it appeared that Enrique’s words were quite sincere. He repeatedly recommended it.

“In order to perfectly prepare our plan, we need to move and share opinions within a tight time frame. But since we’re constantly wasting time going back and forth to each other’s inns, I think it would be better in many ways to stay at the same place.”

“That’s true, but…”

“Then I don’t think there’s any need to decline.”

Enrique looked at Eugenia persistently, as if urging her to quickly accept his offer.

“Anyway, we rented the entire second and third floors, so there are plenty of rooms, so don’t worry about that.”

Eugenia bit her lip once, then she let go. It was a heartless expression, as if a decision had been made.

“Then, can I be shameless and ask you to be indebted to me?”

Only then did Enrique’s eyebrows straighten, and his face became much more relaxed.

“Of course. From the moment you gave me permission, I am your employer, and as such, I have taken on the responsibility of ensuring that you and your family are comfortable.”

From those words, Eugenia caught a glimpse of Enrique’s consideration. He deliberately made it so that people would not think that he was making the offer out of sympathy for her situation, because he was placing greater responsibility on her side.

Eugenia smiled, her face now softer.

“Then, I will pack my bags and come to the inn you are staying at tomorrow. Which time is more convenient for you: morning or afternoon?”

After a brief pause, Enrique suddenly asked another question.

“Do you have a lot of luggage?”

Eugenia shook her head. At most, there were only two luggage bags, so it was actually possible to move it right away.

“Um, no. Not really.”

“Then come pick me up tonight. You’d better not leave the room until we come.”

So suddenly? The man’s driving force was extremely disconcerting. But it was an offer she accepted.

‘There is a saying that you should remove the horns of an ox at once.’

Besides, considering the attack she received earlier, she thought it would be much safer for the children that way.

Then there was no reason to hesitate any longer.

Eugenia nodded her head loudly.

“I will. I’m staying in the last room on the third floor.”

“Good. I will remember that.”

Enrique turned around first, as if his business was over.

Eugenia looked at his back for a moment, then quickly withdrew her gaze and entered the inn.
