Onee-chan Notes: Back from the dead to bring this novel more attention ~ ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡
Fan Lan was livestreaming his painting.
The colorful lines that seem to have life flow out from the tip of the pen, which are done in one go and are precise and exquisite. Whether it is for painting enthusiasts or or obsessive perfectionists, it was a deeply satisfying and healing sight to behold.
【Watching Master Lan draw is honestly such a pleasure…】
【No matter how many times I watch, I still doubt whether this is really painting and not magic? !】
【Master Lan’s hands, Master Lan’s hands… let me lick lick lick lick】
【Who needs an image replicator? Teacher, I want to learn hand drawing!】
【That’s cloud-spun paper, right… just one sheet costs my whole month’s salary, sob…】
【Even among artists skilled in hand drawing, there are only a handful of zergs like Master Lan who are so rich that they use real paper every time…】
After putting down the last stroke, Fan Lan wrote the two words “Good night” in the blank space in the lower right corner with a unique universal language script. Then, ignoring the flood of tearful and desperate comments begging him to stay, he closed the livestream and opened his buzzing terminal.
After not touching the terminal for an hour, the communication inbox was already filled with messages. He temporarily skipped the greetings from unfamiliar people, and then cleared some chats. The rest were invitations and small talk from friends, such as the letter from his childhood friend Leicester:
【Leicester: I just took a batch of thousand-year-old paper and sent it to school for you. Don’t forget the birthday party on Saturday. Come over to try on the outfit when you have time.】
And his other good friends:
【Joen: I got into the Film Academy! Haha, we’ll be neighboring campuses from now on! Can’t wait for school to start!!】
【Nuolan Yang: There will be a cultural relic exhibition on Jinsa Star next month. Wanna go check it out?】
A birthday party, huh…
Come to think of it, it’s already been twelve years since he came to this world.
He used to be an ordinary human on Earth—a planet he wasn’t even sure still existed. He worked in the painting industry and had a small reputation. One day, he accidentally fell into a canyon while shooting on the mountain and died. When he woke up again, he became Fan Lan, who had just lost his parents.
Faced with the unfamiliar environment and language, he had kept quiet, silently observing the men who appeared to be doctors. The people around him assumed he was traumatized from losing his parents, suffering from temporary amnesia and selective mutism. Later, he was taken home by a man whose expression was filled with worried eyes but a strong aura. As his body’s memories gradually merged and he grasped the language, he learned that this man was his late female father’s boss and close friend—none other than the famous General Raphael Chiraso of Zerg Star.
Yes, Zerg Star. That was the name of this planet where Fan Lan is located, a universe dominated by the Zerg.
The Zerg are divided into male and female. Outwardly, both looked like human men. Females are generally taller and have superior physical fitness, while males tend to be weak, and the ratio of males to females is as high as 45:1, so males often enjoy preferential treatment and popularity in society, and Fan Lan’s current body happens to be a rare male zerg.
Being a seven- or eight-year-old orphan might sound pitiful, but as a male Zerg with access to a robust welfare system, Fan Lan could have lived comfortably until adulthood. And then there was General Raphael, who treated him like a foster son. Until the age of fourteen, Fan Lan had lived in the general’s household. If he had not insisted on living independently after he turned fourteen and proved that he had the ability to live alone, I am afraid the Admiral would be very happy to support him until he was seventy or eighty years old.
The few years in the Admiral’s home were a period when he was frantically absorbing information from this new world, integrating the original body’s memories, forming a new worldview, and studying Zerg history. All of it deepened his fascination with this strange new world.
At heart, Fan Lan was an artist. Being reborn into an alien world hadn’t filled him with fear or resistance, on the contrary, he looked at every flower and blade of grass with childlike curiosity. At ten, he stood in the general’s garden, touched every beautiful and strange flower with his hands, and drew their veins one by one on the virtual screen of the terminal with an electronic pen.
Paper was no longer a common medium for writing or drawing here—it was more like a collector’s item. As far as Fan Lan knew, arts like painting and calligraphy hadn’t died out, but had become niche and elegant hobbies. In an era dominated by AI and hyper-advanced tech, machines could fulfill every illustration need. Hand drawing was more of a refined retro art. In short: unless you had money and time, the average person would never get the chance to even see it.
At first, Fan Lan didn’t understand how valuable real paper was. He casually asked the housekeeper Zerg for paper and pens. After getting permission from the general, they brought him a stack the next day. He quietly settled at a stone table in the garden and began to draw.
Of course, he didn’t create breathtakingly realistic masterpieces—after all, he hadn’t forgotten that he was still just a child, and scaring people with genius-level realism would’ve been unwise. Instead, he simply doodled bright garden flowers like a kid would. Though simple, the drawings had an undeniable charm. When the general came by and saw the pile of sketches, he looked at Fan Lan with a strange expression for several seconds. After that, Fan Lan was given even more paper and tools.
Now, more than a decade later, Fan Lan had fully adjusted to life on Zerg Star. At twenty years old, he had reached a major milestone for a Zerg—full adulthood, and eligibility to begin higher education.
The Zerg education system didn’t include kindergarten. Formal schooling began at age six, equivalent to Earth’s elementary school. Ages twelve through nineteen were considered the secondary education period. This phase included core academic subjects and, in the later years, the option to take entry-level courses in fields like the arts, military studies, finance, and manufacturing. Most Zerg completed their education at this stage and entered society, with only a few exceptional individuals continuing into higher education.
Three months ago, Fan Lan received an admission letter from the Academy of Arts in the First Capital University—the top university on the capital star. One of its major draws was its library, which preserved a large number of ancient original paintings. As one of the very few institutions that still offered a dedicated art department, it was a rare gem in a world where traditional drawing was all but obsolete. Fan Lan was curious and eager to learn about how Zerg culture had influenced painting styles.
But before university, the first thing to face is his twentieth birthday party.
It was insistently and grandly held at the Chiraso main estate by his childhood friend—Leicester Chiraso, the second son of General Raphael and heir to the Chiraso family.
Fan Lan sighed and turned off his terminal.
【To Leicester: Got it, see you on friday.】

The people of the whole empire were welcoming the hero’s triumphant return.
Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, everyone was surprised to find that the person who was more powerful than most Alphas quickly jumped into a man’s arms, and said softly and coquettishly: “I miss you so much, my baby misses you too, please kiss me.”
The whole empire was shocked.
