I made some changes. Mr. Si’s name is actually the short term for Mr. System, but it’s a hassle to mention the honorific ‘Mr.’ everytime so I’ll change it into the Korean term ‘-ssi’ which basically means the same thing. From now on, Mr. Si will be Sissi (Si-ssi).
Chapter 7
“Let me leave!”
“No, please don’t run away!”
Throwing the veil and headband from her head to the floor, Gabi struggled to leave the room.
The three maids helping her change were clinging to Gabi as she barely escaped. Gabi’s force was strong so the maids could barely hold on, but the moment when they were about to let go of Gabi, the door opened.
“Simon!”
“Gabi-nim, I brought the pouch you asked for… but what is this situation?”
Watching Simon come into the room, the maids already lost sight of Gabi.
“The saintess wants to run away…!”
Simon heard the maid’s words and grabbed Gabi’s wrist as she was about to leave the room.
“What?”
Gabi, who was caught, looked at Simon and sighed.
“Wait a minute, where are you going?”
“Anywhere!”
Seeing how Simon didn’t say anything even after looking at her attire, he seemed to know that she has been perceived as a ‘saintess’, which was outrageous.
He gave her a place to sleep, and there are also other things that she’s thankful for, but now Simon offended Gabi.
“Thank you for letting me sleep here. But no, a saintess is a real status here right? I’m just an ordinary high school girl!”
“Gabi-nim, this is…”
“I’m not even religious!”
Simon didn’t even had the chance to intervene.
“I understand. You are the chosen one, and not necessarily have to be a believer that worships the Goddess.”
“You understand?”
“There’s nothing special about being a saintess. As the symbol of the church, all you have to do is use your abilities to your heart’s content and save people.”
“Huh, what a great thing to say Simon.”
As if they were talking to a wall, they couldn’t seem to understand each other. Gabi got frustrated and smacked her forehead with the palm of her hand.
“I’d like to let you go but…”
“Then let me go.”
“Sorry, I can’t.”
Simon’s answer fueled her tantrum. He’s really resolute on using an attitude and tone that seemed like he would do anything she asks except from letting her go. After all, it was Simon who brought her here, and this was all because of him.
“Did you bring me here for this? I find it out late, but this is really disappointing.”
“Wait a minute, Gabi-nim.”
“Leave me!”
As he grabbed Gabi’s wrist again as she tries to leave the room, she reflexively bent Simon’s arm slightly.
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay.”
Seeing Simon’s pained expression, Gabi hesitated to leave the room and apologized.
Hearing that he was okay, she’s having second thoughts but still left the room without saying anything and ran away from Simon and the maids.
“Oh, I didn’t bring my gun. I should have put it in my skill room.”
Dressed in a striking white dress, she walked a long way from the church’s central garden to the front door.
When she was in the front door, only then she remembered her gun in the room.
“I should go somewhere with no people and get some shoes.”
Shortly after removing her shoes, Gabi was now only wearing a white stockings. She sighed deeply as she looked at her soiled soles.
【 Yes, yes. Don’t be a saint, I’m against it too 】
“Right? It sounds great to be a saintess, but I think I’m already good enough as it is, and I don’t want to have such a grand name.”
Gabi told Sissi about this and that, and quickly went into the nearest isolated place outside the church to enter the skill room. She then changed into a pair of sneakers.
She already expected it at some point, but the gun that she left in the church room really did not return to the skill room.
Gabi lingered near the abbey for a while, trying to figure out how to get it without her being seen.
“This clothing is too conspicuous, and my school uniform is still in the church and being washed.”
【 Keep your clothes on. The clothes you used to wear are worn out 】
She wanted to break into the church and rescue her rifle, but being unable to act on it, Gabi just sat in a corner and talked to Sissi.
“But Sissi is like a transcendent being, right? Do you know why my weapon works so well in this world?”
When she was a hunter in Korea, drakes and wyverns, which she didn’t dare to imagine to come across with, was wiped out by her in an instant. Since she’s curious, she asked Sissi about it.
The monsters look the same to the ones where she previously lived, but the essence are completely different.
【 I think the weapon is on a different level, so isn’t it an ideal ability? But I don’t know any more details 】
Gabi nodded at his persuasive words. And she thought that if it was true, then she must bring back the gun. She has other guns, but her main gun is that rifle.
If, as Sissi said, guns are effective for the monsters here, Gabi really thought that she might be a munchkin in this world, or someone like Ha Doyoon.
“If we run into Simon or anyone else, let’s run at full speed. I need to bring back my gun.”
Gabi got up and came back at the front door of the church.
On her way through the front door, he ran into Arnold, whom she had seen yesterday but felt like she hadn’t seen in a long time.
“Did you enjoy Ludale? And what’s with your clothes?”
Arnold, who was asking how she was doing, looked at Gabi’s outfit and showed a disapproving expression.
“Ah, these are the clothes the church gave me.”
“Church? You’ve been to the church?”
“It somehow happened.”
Arnold narrowed his eyes and said questioningly.
“Come with me. If you have no place to sleep, come to the imperial palace.”
“Huh? Why?”
If she had been looking for a place to live like yesterday, she would have shouted thank you without asking why, but now, Gabi was slightly surprised and asked back when she was told to come to the palace, not just some inn.
As Arnold gritted his teeth and tried to continue his words, a familiar voice called Gabi’s name from inside the church.
Gabi and Arnold turned their heads at the source of the voice, and when they saw who it is, the two wrinkled their faces at the same time.
“Gabi-nim, you came back. I kept watching the front door just in case.”
“I’m not coming back…”
Gabi avoided Simon’s eyes, who rushed to her with a smile that made her feel a little apologetic.
When Arnold, frowning furiously, called Simon’s name in a low voice, Simon placed his hand on his chest and greeted Arnold politely.
“Simon.”
“I greet Your Highness, the Crown Prince.”
“What are you doing here, Your Highness?”
“I was just passing by.”
Simon sighed and turned to look at Gabi.
“Please go back. I will explain in detail, saintess.”
Hearing him calling her saintess, Gabi was taken aback.
Arnold, who was listening by the side, suddenly burst out in anger and grabbed Simon by the collar.
“Did you just said saintess?”
Gabi became worried when Arnold grabbed Simon all of a sudden. Although she didn’t know Simon’s skills, she already has an idea that Arnold is quite the weakling so he might lose.
“Calm down!”
When Gabi stopped Arnold, he turned his head to look at Gabi.
“Are you really going to the church? Come to the palace right now.”
She couldn’t understand why Arnold would go this far when she just helped him clear a dungeon once.
When Gabi was confused by Arnold’s incomprehensible attitude, Simon carefully removed Arnold’s hand on his collar.
“Let’s go back to the church. There are things you left behind.”
Gabi noticed at once that the thing Simon is referring to is her gun.
No matter what they say, she had no intention of being a saint, but she should take back her munchkin gun. So Gabi looked at Simon and nodded her head.
The two men who confirmed her answer had the opposite reaction. While Simon looks bright, Arnold couldn’t say anything and just clenched his teeth.
“I don’t know why you’re doing this but I won’t become a saint. I just have to go back because I left behind something important.”
Gabi, who seemed to calm Arnold, bid farewell to Arnold politely and returned to the church with Simon.
Arnold’s attitude was incomprehensible no matter how much she thought about it. She was tilting her head when she came back to the church, and Erica was already been waiting in front of the church’s central building.
“Thank you for coming back.”
“I’m sorry, but I’m not religious, I don’t worship the Goddess, and I’m not benevolent enough to be a saintess.”
Gabi, who returned to the church, openly rejected Erica.
“Of course, whether Gabi-nim is greedy or evil, she can serve only herself.”
“It’s not that…”
“For now, go back and rest. You might be tired.”
Even when she firmly said no to these people, she felt as if she was only talking to herself.
While Gabi was frustrated, Simon invited her to go back to her room.
Gabi couldn’t refuse Simon’s request over and over again, so she was filled with the thought that she would stay here only for today and depart tomorrow.
“Gabi-nim, since you don’t seem to understand, let me explain.”
“Yes, yes. Why am I a saintess?”
Instead of leaving the room, she let Simon in, who offered to explain.
“As I said before, sometimes women with magical powers are born. We regard such people as being closest to the Goddess, and we worship them as a saintess. We believe that she will save the world.”
“Save the world?”
“Dungeons has been appearing continuously for decades, and it’s taking away men’s mana. Civilians without magical powers are also harmed, so our church believes that it is the saints who will save this chaotic world.”
After hearing the explanation to some extent, Gabi understood the people who insisted on her being a saintess. It’s understandable that they would support a woman with rare magic powers.
Although she understands, doesn’t mean that she’s persuaded.
“If you really can’t stand being a saintess, then I’ll let you escape. But please lend me a hand Gabi-nim.”
Seeing Simon’s beautiful green eyes, Gabi had a hard time refusing.
“…I understand, only for now.”
“Thank you.”
In order not to see Simon’s smile that weakens her heart, Gabi gently closed her eyes.
She accepted because of Simon, but… she was determined to show that she was not worthy of being a saintess by acting like a fool.
“There is a rain ritual scheduled for tomorrow, so I will briefly tell you the dance you need to dance at the rain ritual after dinner. I’ll see you later.”
Simon, who was feeling relieved, suddenly dropped a bomb and left the room to avoid being caught by her.
