The Boss is Reborn with his Little Fairy

Chapter 23.1: Stolen Kisses

“Do you want to go to the hospital?” His temperature has been consistently high, and Wen Ke’an is still worried.

“No need, I just need to rest for a bit on my own,” Gu Ting whispered in her ear. “Let me hold you for a while.”

His voice sounded weak, and Wen Ke’an obediently stayed still, letting him hold her.

But after a while, they heard footsteps near the quiet storage room.

“What’s up with the props team?” Someone remarked, “Why didn’t they prepare the props for this show earlier?”

“It’s such a big warehouse, where can we find props for her?”

Boxes in front of them obscured her view, and Wen Ke’an had no idea how many people had gathered. She cast a peek at Gu Ting and murmured, “Someone’s here.”

Gu Ting leaned against the wall, slightly straightening his back. He returned his gaze and said quietly, “It’s fine, they won’t come over.”

Several friends walked to another warehouse and found themselves in the dark, surrounded by boxes.

Wen Ke’an looked up at Gu Ting; his eyes were slightly lowered, and his nose was prominent.

Wen Ke’an subconsciously remembered the first time she saw him in the previous world. It also happened on a night like this.

Gu Ting had recently been freed from prison and was being pursued by former foes. He was covered in wounds and looked terrible when she spotted him in a narrow alley. She could have ignored him, but the alley was freezing in the winter, and perhaps it was sympathy that drove her to bring him home.

She had considered sheltering him for just one night, waiting for his injuries to heal slightly before sending him on his way. But she had no idea that this one act of compassion would bind them together for a lifetime.

Her own life was in turmoil at the time, and she hadn’t anticipated being able to care for someone else in those conditions. But she never regretted it because he had given her a reason to live.

The warehouse’s lights had already gone out, and the students who had come to seek for items had left. The small chamber was quiet once more.

The moon was full in the sky, and the stars sparkled.

Wen Ke’an stared at the young guy next to her without blinking, convinced that supernatural intervention had sent them both back in time ten years.

Gu Ting was aware of Wen Ke’an’s gaze. He lowered his gaze to meet hers, and the girl on his side had huge, lovely eyes. They appeared to contain a million stars.

“What’s wrong?” Gu Ting asked softly, suppressing his feelings.

Wen Ke’an didn’t say anything, but she tilted her head and delicately kissed his cheek.

The flames inside got larger and more difficult to control.

Gu Ting let out a soft sigh and drew her into his hug, dropping his head to kiss the corner of her lips.

He had originally assumed that one taste would suffice. People, on the other hand, are constantly greedy. He wanted more after a few delicate kisses.

“Mm…”

Wen Ke’an couldn’t take it anymore. She made an unintentional step back, but a huge hand on her waist drew her back.

Wen Ke’an felt tears spring up in her eyes as his movements became more forceful, unable to restrain herself.

“A-Ting.”

Wen Ke’an, unable to keep back her panic, softly called his name.

Gu Ting’s body stiffened as he heard her voice, and he gradually let her go.

Wen Ke’an’s eyes were red from weeping, and she was feeling a little overwhelmed. His advances had even made her lips swollen.

When Gu Ting’s gaze shifted downward, Wen Ke’an saw she was about to speak. Her phone in her pocket had lit up as she followed his gaze.

She had her phone on silent earlier so she could focus on the performance. A call from Jin Ming was visible when Wen Ke’an pulled out her phone.

“An-An, I’m also at the vocational school; where are you right now?” After the call was established, Jin Ming’s voice could be heard on the other end asking, “Why didn’t I see you?”

Wen Ke’an looked at Gu Ting and said softly, “I’m backstage.”

“It’s getting late, and it won’t be safe if it gets any later,” Jin Ming said. “You must have finished your performance by now, right? Do you want to go home together?”.

Wen Ke’an was concerned because Gu Ting was still experiencing health issues. When she overheard Gu Ting softly saying, “I’m fine, go home first,” next to her, she was about to reject Jin Ming.

Wen Ke’an chatted briefly before hanging up the phone, saying, “I’ll come to meet you in a bit.”

Gu Ting’s hand felt warm, if not hot, to Wen Ke’an subconsciously as he touched his palm.

Gu Ting acknowledged her worry and gently smiled while reassuring her, “I’m fine.”

“Or ought I.”

Gu Ting interrupted Wen Ke’an just as she was about to finish.

“You’re safe with me, he assured her as he gave her a serious look.”

Soon after leaving the warehouse, Wen Ke’an and Gu Ting encountered Jin Ming. Today, Jin Ming wore a fashionable outfit and had a few tiny bugs crawling up her arm. They were extremely intelligent little insects, and Wen Ke’an had no idea how Jin Ming had managed to raise them.

Jin Ming hurried over to Wen Ke’an, looking into her eyes for a while before furrowing her brows and inquiring, “Did someone here bully you?”.

Wen Ke’an responded, “No,” after a brief moment of surprise.

Jin Ming questioned somewhat doubtfully, “Are you sure? She touched the region around her eyes with his hand. You have reddened eyes. “Did you sob?”

Inadvertently touching her eye sockets was another action by Wen Ke’an. She was aware that her eyes had some problems, such as the tendency to turn slightly red around the edges after crying. She hadn’t realized how much she had been crying.

Wen Ke’an rubbed her eyes, which were a little itchy, and softly said, “It’s nothing. My eye had something in it, but it is now better.”.

“That’s great.” Jin Ming replied.

After rubbing her eyes, Wen Ke’an experienced a significant improvement. She asked Jin Ming, “How did you get here?” while turning to face her.

“I called, but you didn’t pick up. Since I didn’t have much to do at home and I assumed something had happened to you,” Jin Ming said, “I came to see how you were doing.”

Wen Ke’an felt comforted by the knowledge that Jin Ming was wrried. She admitted that she had put her phone on silent earlier and had missed seeing her messages as a result.

Jin Ming smiled and remarked, “It’s not a big deal as long as you’re okay,” when she noticed her feeling guilty. “You shouldn’t come here by yourself going forward because this vocational school is quite chaotic.”.

Wen Ke’an complied with an “all right” nod.

“It’s growing dark out. Let’s head home. Your uncle and aunt must be concerned,” Jin Ming suggested.

A short while after they left, a few students from the props team showed up to take care of the props.

Aren’t those two students from the other high school, one of them asked incredulously after spotting Wen Ke’an.

One of the classmates said, “I feel like the person just now was Gu Ting,” as they came to a bright area.

“I concur, I think so.”

“Didn’t they say Boss Gu had given up smoking?”

“Maybe he’s just having a bad day.”.

“Do you think that these two students from the First Middle School who came from the warehouse might be connected to this?” asked one classmate after a brief moment of hesitation.

The evening’s activities were coming to an end. Wen Xing’er put on the clothes that Wen Ke’an had been wearing previously and applied makeup that resembled hers while there was still some time left.

She was enthusiastically approached by her friends who had been gathering information. The president of the well-known Blue Flower Dance Society in the nation has specifically requested to meet with you, one of them said.

“The Blue Flower Dance Society? I’ve heard great things about them. Many people attempt to enter but are unsuccessful.”

“You’re headed in the right direction, Xing’er, but keep us in mind.”

Wen Xing’er was happy to hear her classmates were envious. “Don’t worry, if I can join the dance society, I won’t forget you guys,” she proclaimed with pride as she held her head high.

Wen Xing’er took a quick look at Wen Ke’an’s prior dance video as there was still some time. Wen Xing’er had a background in dance and was able to mimic her sister’s moves to some extent, even though Wen Ke’an’s dance moves were difficult.

As the moment drew near, one of Wen Xing’er’s friends turned to her as she made her way to the gym office and hesitantly asked, “Do you think the teacher will recognize you?”

After a brief moment of hesitation, Wen Xinger confidently responded, “I’m about the same height as my cousin, and our eyes look very similar.”.

Her friend took a close look after hearing Wen Xing’er’s words and had some things she didn’t want to say. Wen Xing’er and her sister shared similar facial features, but they had very different auras as a whole. Her sister looked far more attractive.

“They won’t be able to see because they will be far away from the stage. They shouldn’t care if there are a few minor differences,” Wen Xing’er said with a smile.

Her friend inquired, “How good is your dancing in comparison to your sister’s?”

That question didn’t sit well with Wen Xing’er. “I’m not bad at dancing either,” she said with an arched brow.

The principal and the teacher were waiting inside the principal’s office when they entered. Wen Xing’er was shocked to find that there were numerous other school administrators present in the office. She had assumed that it would only be the principal and the teacher.

Wen Xing’er was a little intimidated by the sheer number of people present. She entered the room and formally introduced herself as Wen Xing’er before saying, “Hello, teachers.”.

It was the girl in the red dress that the principal recognized. He stood up as soon as he noticed Wen Xing’er had finally arrived and greeted her warmly, “Teacher Wang, this student here is the one who performed on stage earlier.”

Nobody spoke after Teacher Wang. He gave Wen Xing’er a close look while slightly furrowing his brows.

The mood in the office grew tense.

“How about you show Teacher Wang your performance, Xing’er?,” the principal asked with a smile after taking another look at Wen Xinger.

“Certainly, Teacher.”

Wen Xin’ger was uneasy, but she wasn’t ready to give up. She was ready for this situation. However, Teacher Wang abruptly interrupted her and said, “No need.”.

Teacher Wang questioned Wen Xing’er as she performed a dance on stage.

Having a lot of anxiety, Wen Xing’er’s palms began to perspire. All of the office’s instructors turned to look at Teacher Wang when she asked a question. She hadn’t anticipated how things had turned out. She was being closely examined by many people who were wondering if she was telling the truth.

Wen Xing’er knew she couldn’t keep up with the act because so many teachers had keen eyes.

“I’ll give you a chance.” The principal sighed and questioned, staring at Wen Xinger, “Please explain yourself. Are you the girl who danced on stage?”

Wen Xing’er finally broke under the tremendous psychological strain, her eyes filled with tears. “It wasn’t me,” she admitted.” The one who performed was my cousin.”

Wen Ke’an didn’t anticipate her dance video from the vocational school gaining such a large following.

The member of the class’s art committee approached Wen Ke’an subtly during the morning break. “An-An, is this you?” she asked, taking a phone out of her school uniform sleeve and carefully setting it on Wen Ke’an’s desk.

Working on her assignment was Wen Ke’an. A picture of her dance from the previous night was displayed on the phone screen when she turned to look. She was dancing under the spotlight, her red dress flaunting gracefully swaying sleeves.

Her dance had been recorded and posted online.

After giving the image a calm glance and averting her eyes, Wen Ke’an looked away. “It isn’t me.”

The member of the art committee gave Wen Ke’an a long, focused gaze. “Do you think I’ll accept your story?”

Wen Ke’an stayed silent.

“I’ve studied art for many years, so although you’re wearing makeup,” The member of the art committee bragged, “You can fool others, but not me.”

Wen Ke’an set her pen down and questioned the committee member.

“What?”

Wen Ke’an has implicitly admitted as much.

The committee member smiled and remarked, “Well, next month, no one in the class has signed up for the school’s arts festival.”

“Please help me!”

Wen Ke’an had just arrived at the sports field for the first class of the afternoon, a physical education class when Jin Ming approached her with an agitated expression.

Wen Ke’an inquired, “What’s wrong?”

“It’s incredible. We have to undergo physical examinations on such a hot day,” Jin Ming muttered.

The classmates who were taking a nap under the trees groaned when they heard Jin Ming complain.

“I really don’t want to run 800 meters in this weather. Who can save me?”

Jin Ming doused them in cold water and said, “It’s not just the 800 meters; there’s also the long jump, sit-ups, and shot put.”.

Everyone fell silent.

This test was given to all of the students who had physical education that day, not just those in their class. Students were milling about the field in groups.

The only drawback was the heat despite it being a sunny day.

Everyone started warming up for the test because they were preparing for it, with the help of the sports committee. Wen Ke’an was flexing her wrists, obliviously gazing up at the clear blue sky.

She questioned whether Gu Ting had fully recovered and what he was doing at the moment.

Wen Ke’an whirled around and cast a careless glance in the general direction of Gu Ting’s school.

Wen Ke’an didn’t stop in her tracks until the next instant.

A young man dressed in white was standing nearby under the cover of a tree. He looked at her quietly as the breeze made light work of his hair.

He had just been on her mind, and in an instant, he had materialized in front of her. In shock, Wen Ke’an blinked.

The young man beneath the tree smiled at her when she turned around and faced him.

Jin Ming had to remind Wen Ke’an to continue her warm-up exercises before she was able to ask, “Wen Ke’an, what are you doing?”.

Wen Ke’an could have sneaked away to find Gu Ting if it had been any other day by taking advantage of the teacher’s inattention. But since the physical education test was today, she was unable to leave.

The 800-meter run was the last test for Wen Ke’an. She felt noticeably exhausted after finishing it, perhaps from her lack of recent exercise.

Jin Ming approached and put her hand on Wen Ke’an’s shoulder, asking, “Aren’t you tired?”

Wen Ke’an shook her head, “I am.”

Wen Ke’an’s face wasn’t flushed or panting like the other students who had just finished the run when Jin Ming turned to look at it. “Why do you seem fine? You hardly look tired,” she questioned in a perplexed tone.

Many of the students had run the 800 meters by this point and were too worn out to stand up. With only a few sweat beads on her forehead, Wen Ke’an nonetheless seemed to be relatively composed.

Wen Ke’an gave it some serious thought before saying, “I’m tired, but not really tired.”.

As she moved forward, Wen Ke’an continued her conversation with Jin Ming. She spotted a small package close by, under a sizable tree. Wen Ke’an approached it, knelt down, and took it.

Jin Ming walked over and said, “It’s water and a towel. Even band-aids are available.”

Gu Ting brought these items for her. Wen Ke’an had finished her sit-ups when he left because he had to attend to something else and couldn’t stay with her the entire time.

Jin Ming grinned and said, “Wow, that’s so considerate.”

Was it a secret admirer who gave it to you?

Wen Ke’an responded with a smile, “I think I have a considerate friend, like a guardian angel.”

Just before the next class, Wen Ke’an and Jin Ming relaxed outside under a tree. Wen Ke’an was about to stand up to head to the assembly, but she wasn’t prepared for an unexpected disturbance in the neighborhood.

What’s going on over there? Jin Ming also turned to look in that direction.

“It appears that someone was hurt,” Wen Ke’an commented after a brief period of observation.

Wen Ke’an finished speaking, and shortly after, they noticed a few teenagers in dress-coded school clothes. The boy on the right was slowly assisting the boy on the left who had a broken leg.

They were in the ideal place to watch the chaos, and soon several of the girls from their class rushed over. Knowing what was going on, the head of the literary and gossip committee muttered, “The boy on the left injured his leg while running, and it’s quite serious.”.

Everyone started to assemble for assembly after they left.

Jin Ming turned to Wen Ke’an and said, “That person looks really familiar. Could it be Ji Xingran?” as she suddenly remembered something.

“I couldn’t see clearly,” Wen Ke’an said, rubbing her eyes.

Due to the seriousness of the accident, several physical education teachers had also arrived at the school hospital. There were many people in the cramped infirmary.

After examining Ji Xingran’s wounds, the school nurse said, looking up at Ji Xingran’s homeroom teacher, “The injury is quite severe; we should inform the parents.”.

The homeroom teacher nodded and said, “All right.”

The school nurse was currently cleaning Ji Xingran’s wounds. It hurt to clean the deep wounds because they were so deep. Ji Xingran, on the other hand, sat silently without saying a word and appeared emotionless.

Ji Xingran abruptly said, “No need.”

The homeroom teacher paused and asked, “What?”

“You can let them know, but they won’t come,” Ji Xingran muttered as he lowered his gaze.

Ji Xingran couldn’t go to school because of how badly he hurt his leg. He missed one class while he was in the hospital, and the homeroom teacher later paid him another visit.

“The wound still needs to be properly bandaged. You’ll have to wait a while here in the school hospital. Your father said someone would pick you up after school,” said the homeroom teacher.

Ji Xingran answered apathetically, “Okay.”

It was clear that he wasn’t in a good mood right now. The homeroom teacher consoled the patient before leaving the hospital.

When word of Ji Xingran’s accident spread through this high school, many female students came to see him during their free periods because he was regarded as the school heartthrob.

Ji Xingran was irritated and avoided eye contact with anyone.

After being silent for a brief period, Ji Xingran heard a man’s voice say, “Ran-ge.”. His classmate is at the desk.

“It’s self-study time right now, and the homeroom teacher asked me to come and take care of you, Ran-ge.” The desk mate grinned, but quickly explained, fearing Ji Xingran might chase him away, “It’s self-study time right now. I finally get to stop studying during self-study, so don’t shoo me away, hehe.”.

The desk neighbor was a chatty fellow who would continue to talk if Ji Xingran didn’t respond. The coworker asked, “Ran-ge, what’s going on with your parents? Haven’t they come back for a long time?” as he cast a quick glance at Ji Xingran.

Since they were junior high school classmates, the desk neighbor knew a little bit about Ji Xingran’s past.

The desk neighbor gave it some thought and then decided to change the subject after observing that Ji Xingran was unwilling to talk about it.

“By the way, Ran-ge, is it true that the campus beauty doesn’t like you anymore? In the afternoon, she clearly saw that you were hurt, but she didn’t even come to check on you.”.

Wen Ke’an was never Ji Xingran’s favorite, and many people were aware of this. It should make Ji Xingran happy that Wen Ke’an is no longer bothering him.

The moment his desk neighbor said this, he understood something wasn’t right.

Ji Xingran ought to be happy in theory, but unexpectedly, he appeared somewhat menacing and darkened his expression.

“What’s wrong with you?” the desk neighbor inquired after backing away.

Ji Xingran’s eyes grew even more icier as he said, “Get out,” without knowing what words had offended him.

Ji Xingran sat motionless on the hospital bed as the infirmary once more went silent.

Ji Xingran murmured, his eyes growing even more menacing, “She said she’d like me forever” he murmured as he hid himself in the shadows.
