A message appeared on the app while Wen Ke’an was debating whether or not to respond.
The platform took advantage of the summer vacation period, when many people were available to host a competition.
Wen Ke’an took a quick look at the competition rules. It was in the form of teams, with the option to build your own. The competition was based on a point system, with the top three teams receiving corresponding rewards.
“Hey, do you want to participate in the competition together?” Wen Ke’an texted a classmate.
Dashuaibi was her classmate on the app who came online late at night when everyone else was sleeping. Wen Ke’an wasn’t in a rush, so she solved a few puzzles before going to sleep.
Wen Ke’an awoke the following morning to the words “Sure” from Dashuaibi, which was in line with her expectations.
The competition was scheduled to begin the following day. Wen Ke’an looked at the competition’s prizes. The first-place award was a total of 20,000 yuan, as well as a laptop for each member of the team. Wen Ke’an was in charge of registering her team, because a group had to have two or more members.
Wen Ke’an had intended to check her current Dashuaibi ranking when she mistakenly clicked into the platform’s forum. The forum was buzzing with activity now that most students were on vacation.
The majority of the debate focused on students from the No. 1 and No. 2 Middle Schools. The impending problem-solving tournament was the current hot topic.
[All students from No. 1 School, assemble!!!]
[Are there any experts who want to team up with me? We require an expert to lead!]
[Calling all No. 2 School geniuses!!] Let’s take over the top spot!!!]
Wen Ke’an cast a quick glance around at the other teams. The largest team already had fifteen members, the majority of whom were leaderboard classmates. Many teams were already battling silently against one another.
Wen Ke’an was unconcerned about the competition. She was in the final stages of studying for her examinations, which were a month away. Wen Ke’an had several other responsibilities in addition to her usual practise.
There had been no problems with the family business in the previous days. The situation with Li Yueyue was getting worse, and it was also stated that there was involvement during the city’s Food Inspection Department inspections. As a result, she was temporarily unable to run her stall.
Perhaps as a result of this episode, their business got a good reputation. Because of the rumours, many people came to purchase their braised meal.
Wen Qiangguo’s health had much improved. Wen Ke’an took her father to the hospital for a thorough check-up, fearful that he would experience health difficulties like in his former life. Her father’s health was generally fine, and the results were positive.
Wen Ke’an advised to her parents that they take a day off once a week to avoid exhaustion. Wen Qing agreed to Wen Ke’an’s suggestion because she was concerned about Wen Qiangguo’s health.
Wen Qiangguo, perhaps accustomed to being busy all the time, couldn’t sit still even during his relaxation. Wen Ke’an was working on an issue in her chamber when she noticed a fragrance coming from the garden. She put down her pen and stepped outside to take a look.
Her father was frying chicken feet and pig’s head meat in the yard.
“Dad, what exactly are you doing?” Wen Ke’an approached and gazed down attentively.
When Wen Qiangguo saw his daughter arriving, he laid the spoon down and smiled, “A customer mentioned that our products are too limited, so I’m experimenting with some new items.”
Wen Qiangguo removed one of the chicken feet out of the pot, let it cool for a moment, and offered it to Wen Ke’an, saying, “Try it and see how it tastes.”
Wen Ke’an bit into it. The chicken feet were delicate and wonderful, yet there was something missing that left her unimpressed.
“How is it?” her father asked with anticipation.
Wen Ke’an paused for a moment before saying, “I think it’s not as impressive as the taste of your braised duck wings.” The chicken feet have a good flavour, but they taste too ordinary. This flavour can be found in many places.”
After listening to Wen Ke’an’s words, Wen Qiangguo also took a taste. After a while, he nodded and said, “You’re right. It’s delicious, but it lacks our own unique touch.”
Wen Qiangguo selected some grapes for Wen Ke’an in the garden, instructing her to return to her room and study first. He added that once he was through cooking them, he would call her to eat them.
Wen Ke’an went back to her room to study and revise her notes.
Wen Ke’an eventually opened the study app after finishing lunch in the afternoon. The platform was bustling, and the competition had already begun. Some self-study rooms even offered live study sessions where users worked together on live broadcasts to solve problems.
Wen Ke’an began by looking up her ranking. She spent roughly four hours every day on this platform, frequently solving different questions in the evenings. However, because her problem-solving efficiency was quite high and her accuracy rate was likewise high, she frequently accumulated a substantial number of points.
Many students had begun to take the tournament seriously, causing Wen Ke’an’s ranking to plummet significantly. She was currently about the forty-fifth position in the entire city. She subconsciously checked her teammate’s ranking. Her teammate, who frequently came online at night, appeared to have a considerably higher ranking than hers.
Wen Ke’an felt she couldn’t keep her teammate back. As a result, she began spending more time on the platform every day. Solving more difficulties was beneficial, and Wen Ke’an could notice her performance steadily improving.
Wen Ke’an’s ranking had improved dramatically after spending several days answering more difficult issues. Her teammate and she were neck and neck in the top twenty. Furthermore, their team had risen to the top twenty in the group standings.
Wen Ke’an had spent the entire evening problem-solving. She intended to lay down her phone and sleep after debating the final question with Dashuaibi. However, she was receiving multiple notifications that mentioned her at that time.
Some unfamiliar classmates had tagged her in the messages. Wen Ke’an opened the notifications to read, and she discovered that a post had been made in the forum about her and her teammate.
[ Does anyone know the guy on the leaderboard, Dashuaibi, and Lemon? ]
[In just seven days, they’ve surged into the top twenty. How awesome is that!!]
[Could this be an alternate account of some big shot? Who are you really, big shot? @AnAnEatsLemonEveryday @TheWorld’sMostHandsome ]
Classmates speculated about several important personalities from No.1 School in the forum. Wen Ke’an didn’t want to ruin their fun by guessing different identities, so she decided not to participate and just logged out of the platform.
Wen Ke’an’s recent days have been quiet and monotonous. She spent virtually every day studying, even jogging in the morning to practise her English listening abilities.
Wen Qiangguo had recently taken an interest in fishing. Every morning after his run, he would go fishing at a tiny lake in a local park. Wen Ke’an would occasionally accompany him, sitting by the side and studying while he fished.
The platform competition had reached its peak, and Wen Ke’an and her comrade had somehow proceeded to the finals.
Some of the platform’s challenges have recently gotten incredibly difficult. Wen Ke’an had been struggling with problems for a long time, unable to figure out how to fix them.
Wen Ke’an was fishing with her father one day when she came across a maths issue that baffled her. She’d tried everything, filling two pages of scratch paper, but she still couldn’t figure it out.
“Something’s not right here, the auxiliary line shouldn’t be drawn here,” just as Wen Ke’an was about to give up on the matter, someone in front of her spoke up.
Wen Ke’an opened her eyes and noticed the elderly guy who frequently fished with them. He was wearing spectacles and looking down at Wen Ke’an’s scribbled scratch paper. He pointed to a diagram she’d made and said, “The auxiliary line should be drawn here, and also add another auxiliary line on this side.”
Wen Ke’an suddenly understood thanks to the old man’s guidance. “Got it, thank you, Grandpa!” she murmured gladly to him.
Wen Qiangguo also had a good friendship with the elderly man, with whom he frequently fished and spoke. Wen Qiangguo would occasionally share some freshly made braised duck with the old man.
Wen Ke’an sought the elderly man’s advice on problem-solving after realising how skilled he was. Her ranking rapidly rose as a result of her ability to solve many more difficult issues, eventually breaking into the top five in the city. Her teammate, who was in sixth place, was also performing well.
Their point multiplier was stronger due to their tiny squad size, and they had now surged to second position in the group rankings.
Wen Ke’an’s examinations were coming, therefore she couldn’t stay online all the time answering difficulties. She decided to notify Dashuaibi ahead of time, so she opened a chat window with her teammate.
[ I’ll be preparing for exams in a few days, so I might not be online much recently.]
Her teammate happened to be online at that moment, and the response was immediate.
[ Where are you taking the exam? ]
[ At the No. 1 Middle School. ]
