SweetHeart in Honeyed Desire

Chapter 10 : Bakery

Tang Mi burst into laughter at what Fu Xin said. She took a while to laugh it out, then stood up from the sofa. “I’m going to take a shower first then head to bed. It’s been a long day today, you should go sleep too.”

“Okay.” Fu Xin shortly responded. She hesitated a bit but still asked, “Tang Tang, do you still like Lin Che?”

Tang Mi turned her head around then raised her brows, “I think he and He Si Qi suit each other quite well.”

Fu Xin gave her a gesture of approval. “That’s what i thought too.”

Both of them grinned at each other, Tang Mi suddenly felt a little more comforted. In this era of fire, theft and fake friends, to be able to meet Fu Xin, it really was a blessing.

That night, Tang Mi had good dreams. Director He, however, would be waking up to bad news.

“Dismissed? Why are you dismissing me for no reason?” Director He shouted from inside the HR department manager’s office. His hands gripping his dismissal letter, personally handed to him by Luo Hao.

“For no reason?” Luo Hao lightly laughed out, “You should know best what you’ve done.”

Director He’s expression swiftly changed, he then innocently asked Luo Hao, “What have I done?”

Luo Hao stood up from the sofa and walked right up to him. “I don’t want to waste time on you either. He Si Qi from Shi University is your relative, it doesn’t matter whether she was influencing you or if you were purely trying to defend her, this was all for your personal reasons. During the interview, you deliberately accused Tang Mi, preventing her from entering Yu Shi. As a Personnel Director, to do something so unprofessional, this company does not think you are eligible to remain at this post.”

Director He’s face went white. It was indeed He Si Qi who had asked him to do that as a favour, but he thought it’d just be a small issue. Never did he think the company would personally investigate him this far.

He bit down on his lip and looked at Luo hao, “He Si Qi is indeed my niece. She was the one who told me about Tang Mi’s plagiarism. However, you can’t just use this to judge my character, Tang Mi had definitely plagiarised, I don’t think what I did was wrong.”

Luo Hao laughed, “Whether or not Tang Mi had plagiarised should have been none of your concern. Not to mention the police always gives a person in custody a chance to represent themselves. You didn’t even want to listen to her side of the story, are you sure there was nothing personal involved? The Personnel department is an important part of this company, we need someone who can execute more professional judgments.”

He walked out right after. Director He shouted out after him, “I demand to see CEO Yu!”

“Our deepest apologies, CEO Yu is not at the office today.” Luo Hao looked back at him, “The Finance department will give you three weeks worth of salary, let’s leave on good terms, but if you do continue to stir up trouble, I’ll have to call security to escort you out.”

Director He’s mouth twitched but he said no more.

Tang Mi was still sleeping soundly during all this. Her phone next to her head suddenly started to ring, kicking her whole body into shock. She fumbled around for her phone, her eyes struggling to open, and picked up the phone, ” Hello, who is it?”

“Sweet heart, still in bed?”

Yu Xin’s voice channeled through the headset with a rich, warm scent.

Tang Mi’s sleepiness suddenly disappeared, she kicked away her blankets and sat up. “Yu… Sir?”

Yu Xin laughed, “I’m waiting for you in front of your apartment.”

He hung up. Tang Mi held her phone, still trying to find her lost soul. In front of my apartment….waiting for me for what?

She jumped onto the floor, not even caring about slippers, and pulled her window curtains open. Next to the telephone pole was an eye catching Lamborghini, Yu Xin’s body leaning against the car with his head tilted towards the apartment in front of him. Seeing Tang Mi’s face emerging from the window, he mouthed the words ‘sweetheart’ to her.

Tang Mi: “…”

She cursed to herself. She had seen this scene too many times in movies.

However, never did she think there’d be a day where she would be the main female protagonist.

She closed the curtains and rushed to get changed. At the door she was putting on her shoes whilst brushing her hair in front of the mirror.

Yu Xin raised his brows as he saw her come out, “That quick? I thought girls take at least half an hour to get ready.”

Tang mi could only laugh in response. As if she had the guts to make the boss wait downstairs for half an hour.

“Mr Yu, did you need me for anything?”

Yu Xin smiled at her, his dimples emerging from his cheeks, “You haven’t had breakfast yet, what would you like to eat?”

Tang Mi kept kept staring at his dimples, in a daze she said, “There’s a pork rib noodle shop at the end of the road, it’s really good.”

Yu Xin helped her with the car door, slightly turning his body, “After you, Sweetheart.”

Pork Rib Noodle shop had been in business in the little district for over a decade, it always received good reviews, the pork rib soup being the crowd favourite. The little shop had slowly expanded over the years, its business prospering by the day.

Of course, in the many years of business, it was the first time the owner had a customer drive in with a Lamborghini.

It had already passed peak serving time, the store only had a couple left sitting inside. The Lamborghini that parked outside was shining light from all seven colours of the rainbow

“Woah, a Lamborghini!” gasped the lady from the couple sitting near the door.

Her partner sitting opposite her turned his head and snorted. “So what? Those who drive these sorts of cars are usually “Little Emperors” that have a face you can’t even bear to look at.”

After a short ‘ping’, Yu Xin shut the car door and walked out. The lady’s eyes lit up even further.

The man’s expression froze. “Those who usually look that handsome and drive those sorts of cars are usually very arrogant and inconsiderate of others. Do you think there’d be anyone else that would pamper you like I would?”

Yu Xin helped Tang Mi with the door and they both walked towards the store. “Sweet heart, what would you like to eat?”

“I want a 100 gram rib with noodle soup, you?”

“I’ll have what you’re having, did you want anything else?”

“Mm, the xiaomai next door are also quite nice, I just don’t know if they have any left.”

“I’ll go have a look for you, find a seat in the meantime.”

The man: “…”

The owner of the shop had subconsciously been listening to the young couple’s conversation and had a hunch that they’d break up right after they finished their meal.

The dumplings next door had indeed been sold out so Yu Xin brought back some steamed dumplings instead. Since they had ordered only 100 grams of meat, Tang Mi was worried Yu Xin would still be hungry so only ate one dumpling. Yu Xin chuckled as he placed a dumpling into her bowl, then looked up at her. “Sweet heart, I’ll be sad if you get hungry.”

Tang Mi: “…”

She felt as if a layer of red was dyed into the dumplings.

“Check please!” The man sitting nearby suddenly yelled. He slammed down the money and grabbed his girlfriend then walked out with without looking back.

“What’s wrong with him?” Tang Mi couldn’t understand.

The owner went to clean up the table and whispered, “Their relationship probably isn’t sailing too smoothly.”

Tang Mi: “…’

After the two had finished their noodles, Yu Xin escorted Tang Mi out of the little suburb.

Tang Mi tilted her head towards him and asked, “Where are we going?”

Yu Xin answered, “I wanted to have another taste of your cakes, but since our restaurant is busy, I made a reservation at the Happiness bakery for today.”

Tang Mi was going to suggest going back to her place to bake but then thought it didn’t seem too suitable to ask Yu Xin to go there. So in the end she could only respond with an OK.

He probably already took that into consideration, is that why he booked the bakery?

Happiness was considered quite popular for DIY bakers. The utilities and equipment inside were all available to use and they charged in relation to what you baked. Tang Mi had used their services a few times back when she was still in university and had a fairly good impression of the place.

Yu Xin starting to chat to her whilst driving, “I’m sorry, you were supposed to have a day off today but I dragged you out to bake.”

Tang Mi shook her head. “It’s alright.” In reality, she was pretty happy to be able to see CEO Yu’s dimples.

“I’ll remember to pay you for overtime.”

Tang Mi grew a little suspicious as she blinked past the road Yu Xin drove by. “If we’re going to Happiness, shouldn’t you have turned at the previous road?”

Yu Xin chuckled at her, “Slow down sweet heart, we obviously have to take the longer route.”

Tang Mi: “…”

Even though that’s what he said, Tang Mi saw a slight frown on Yu Xin’s tilted face and couldn’t help but feel there was something off about it.

Am I thinking too much?

She shook her thoughts away. Yu Xin had indeed took them around the block before stopping in front of Happiness.

Once she walked in, she put on the apron from the bakery and asked Yu Xin, “What kind of cake would you like to eat?”

Yu Xin chuckled, “I’ll eat anything you make.”

Tang Mi’s flushed a bit then gave it some thought. “How about I teach you? Um.. What about a fruit tart?”

 What about a fruit tart?"

Yu Xin grew more interested

Yu Xin grew more interested. “Sounds great.”

“Okay, wash your hands first. We’re going to start with the dough.”

Yu Xin washed his hands and put on an apron. Tang Mi couldn’t help but laugh as she watched. He started to laugh when he saw her laugh as well. “What is it?”

“Nothing, it’s just that this look actually kind of suits you.” If it was Yu Yi on the other hand, she wouldn’t have imagined this kind of result from just wearing an apron.

Tang Mi felt this scene was kind of strange. They’re the same person but also completely different.

“When mixing you need to be aware of the batter’s state. Don’t knead it so hard your hands get sticky with dough, follow me, use the palm of your hand to quickly press on it. That way the dough won’t be too tough.”

Yu Xin had been watching on the side and then couldn’t help but lament, “Your hands are so beautiful, even after doing this kind of work your fingers are still so slender.”

Tang Mi gave a short laugh. “Not just that, I also haven’t gotten fat, Fu Xin is always jealous of me.”

Yu Xin stared at her, and in a small voice he whispered, “I’m jealous of Fu Xin.”

“What?”

Tang Mi tilted her head towards him. Yu Xin chuckled a bit then asked, “What happens after we knead the dough?”

“After kneading it we need to roll it flat like this, then wrap it with plastic wrap and cool it for an hour.”
After Tang Mi placed the wrapped dough into the fridge, she awkwardly turned to Yu Xin and asked, “What should we do for the next hour then?”

Yu Xin felt there was so much that could be done, but after giving it some thought he smiled and raised his brows at Tang Mi. “What happened between you and Lin Che?”
