Surviving in Apocalypse with Children

Setting Out

Although he hadn’t tried instant noodles before, the eight-treasure porridge he drank was delicious.

The porridge had a sweet taste due to the various ingredients, making it a delightful experience for someone who had never tasted it before.

After having a tiny bit of instant noodles, Wen Xiao knew that he wouldn’t be allowed more. He obediently returned to his seat and began sipping the eight-treasure porridge.

In the early morning, the sky outside was gradually brightening, and after a day and night of hail, it had finally stopped.

After finishing breakfast and packing up their belongings into the space, Wen Xiaoxiao and the others stepped out.

The RV emerged from the space. Everyone boarded the vehicle. Cheng Yi drove the RV and headed to City B.

As they drove, Wen Xiao could see the damaged houses and motionless zombies lying on the ground.

The others did the same, but they all remained silent.

The children fell asleep in the arms of Wen Xiaoxiao and Bo Yiliang.

The children slept for a long time yesterday afternoon. As a result, they had slept late the previous night. So upon waking up this morning, they felt sleepy again.

Now in the rocking motion of the RV, they drifted back into a peaceful slumber.

Aware of the cold weather despite the hail having stopped, Wen Xiaoxiao took extra precautions.

Instead of moving the children to a room, she laid them on the couch in the RV and covered them with blankets from the space.

Even Wen Runhan, who was over ten years old, succumbed to drowsiness. At this moment, he also fell asleep.

Seeing this, Wen Xiaoxiao gently arranged him on the couch and covered him with a blanket to keep him warm.

Gazing at the face similar to hers that now carried a healthy layer of flesh, though not as chubby as the other children, Wen Xiaoxiao couldn’t help but feel a sense of relief.

She recalled the first time she saw him. He was huddled up and shivering. Dressed in ragged and thin clothes, his little face was dirty, and his body was very thin because of malnutrition. It had been a heartbreaking sight.

But thankfully those days were behind them. She believed that their future days would only get better and better.

Wu Xiaoyi watched the entrance gate. Thinking of Wen Xiaoxiao and the others who had been away for more than half a month, he couldn’t help feel a bit worried.

Thinking about everything Wen Xiaoxiao had done, even a grown man like him felt a sense of admiration.

Although he didn’t know the details of how she managed everything, he still found her remarkable.

Despite the day and night of hail falling outside, none of the houses had collapsed or suffered damage. They remained intact. It was as if they were untouched by the natural disaster.

The weather had turned cold, but no one was freezing.

Wen Xiaoxiao had left behind plenty of warm clothing and thick blankets.

Wu Xiaoyi observed the happy smiles on the faces of the elderly, children, and adults.

Initially, when the hailstorm began, there was a sense of fear. They had finally found a safe place to stay, but there was concern that the houses might be damaged by the hail.

But to their surprise, a magical scene appeared. The hail seemed to divert away from the houses as if blocked by an invisible force.

Unknown to them, it was a protective barrier. Anything harmful to human beings, especially during dangerous situations, would be kept out.

Although they didn’t understand the mechanism behind it, everyone knew that this place was the safest. It was without a doubt.

    Thanks for the update.

With such a base, I wonder if everyone else would try to move from their current bases to the magically-protected one. The only concern is that even though the base can expand to accommodate the number of people, not everyone would be appropriate inhabitants and too large a population inside could lead to difficulty maintaining order. I suppose Wen Xiaoxiao could always purchase another base, but I don’t think she’ll end up going that route. Another concern for the base is living necessities like clothes, beds, blankets, cooking equipment and utensils, bathroom items like soap and toothbrushes, etc. and whether there is self-sufficient electricity, gas, and water. Hopefully this magical base will be described in greater detail for all these particulars, as I’m curious how these concerns will be addressed in the future.

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀
