Surviving in Apocalypse with Children

Outsider

The little boy had a dream. In the dream, he watched as his sister, a man, and five children happily gathered together, talking and laughing. He, on the other hand, felt like an outsider. Everyone ignored him.

Wen Mo woke up and went to the bathroom. He noticed a bed not far away.

When he got closer, he found a little boy lying there, not sleeping very soundly.

Wen Mo tilted his head, feeling a bit confused. How come there was an extra bed and a person in the room after he woke up?

He glanced at the bed where he had slept again. His mom was still there. The same goes for his younger siblings. So what happened?

He shrugged off the strange thoughts and trotted into the bathroom.

After coming out, he stopped looking at the little boy and climbed onto the bed. He looked at his mom and then went back to sleep.

The sleeping positions of several people were not great, and they were scattered all over the place, especially Wen Xiao, whose sleeping posture was terrible.

His little leg was stretched onto Wen Heng, and his head rested on Wen Xiaoxiao’s arm. Occasionally, he would smack his lips, and a suspicious liquid was flowing out.

In stark contrast with the bed placed nearby.

The little boy suddenly opened his eyes, showing a face full of fear and uneasiness.

There was a slight sheen of sweat on his forehead, and his hair was a bit damp from perspiration.

With wide, anxious eyes, he looked around the room.

Eventually, his gaze fell on another bed.

On that bed lay his sister and her children.

After he woke up, he couldn’t sleep anymore. He lay on the bed and felt the warmth around him. His eyes stayed fixed on Wen Xiaoxiao and the other children.

He was more sensible than most people. In his time in the orphanage, he learned to read people’s expressions.

Wen Xiaoxiao had slept for a long time. As the children woke up, she remained asleep.

“Brother, why hasn’t Mom woken up?” Chubby little Wen Bei poked Wen Xiaoxiao’s face.

“Sister, don’t disturb her.” Wen Heng took Wen Bei’s hand away.

“Is Mom still sleeping?” Wen Yang asked.

Wen Xiao yawned and rubbed his eyes with his chubby hands, tears still hanging on his eyelashes.

Wen Mo nudged Wen Heng with his arm and whispered, “There’s a little boy in our room.”

Wen Mo secretly pointed to the bed not far away.

Wen Heng looked over and indeed found someone there!

The children on the bed were whispering to each other.

The little boy secretly observed them through the seams of the blanket and felt that they were quite cute.

Wen Xiaoxiao was finally awakened by the noise made by her mischievous little ones.

She opened her eyes groggily and looked at the babbling babies sitting on the bed.

“Brother, who’s that over there?” Wen Bei blinked her big bright eyes and then pointed in the direction of the unfamiliar boy with her chubby little finger.

“I don’t know.” The other children shook their heads. They had also just noticed him today.

“Let’s ask Mom when she wakes up,” Wen Yang suggested.

The children didn’t notice that Wen Xiaoxiao was already awake at this time and heard their conversation.

“So, it’s her little brother they are curious about!”

“But come to think of it, she seems not to know her brother’s name yet.” Wen Xiaoxiao lay on the bed, silently pondering.

From picking him up to returning home, she hadn’t asked him for his name.

“Last night, she was exhausted, so she didn’t ask him.”

“Let’s wait until he wakes up and ask him! If he doesn’t have a name, I’ll give him one.”

And so, Wen Xiaoxiao cheerfully made her decision.

“Wow~ Mom, you’re awake!” Wen Xiao exclaimed in surprise, his chubby face smiling. Wen Xiaoxiao couldn’t help feeling that he seemed mischievous.

  1. M&M's says:

I feel bad that Wen Xiaoxiao’s little brother feels so insecure even after finding out he has a sister. I was also wondering the entire time if he was going to have a name because so far it’s always been “little boy” when referring to him, lol. Hopefully Wen Xiaoxiao and the children will give him a sense of security and the family love he was deprived of in the orphanage.

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀
