Surviving in Apocalypse with Children

Unity

In a room tens of kilometers from Xieshui City, there were numerous survivors.

Each city and town had one or two bases. It goes without saying that those with abilities chose to go to the bases, while those without abilities hid wherever they could, surviving one day at a time.

In the room, there were probably over fifty survivors, and most of them were ordinary people without abilities.

Men, women, old, young, and children were all present, each starving and reduced to skin and bones.

A man walked in from outside, carrying some bits of food in his hands, a small amount far from enough for everyone.

Every person in the room stared at the food in his hands like hungry wolves that had not eaten for a long time.

“Grandpa, wake up!” A girl crouched in the corner and gently nudged the elderly man lying on the ground.

The girl was so thin that her clothes looked loose on her, as if she had lost several pounds.

The elderly man lying on the ground had a faint breath, clearly on the verge of collapse.

The old man was already quite old, and coupled with days without food or water, he was obviously suffering from extreme hunger.

“Grandpa, Grandpa,” the girl cried heartbrokenly, her tears falling like rain.

Hearing the sobbing, the man furrowed his brows and walked in the direction where the girl was crying.

The room wasn’t that big to begin with, and with his long legs, he quickly arrived at the girl’s side with a few steps.

The girl sensed a person coming over and lifted her head to look over. She looked at the man with tears still hanging on her eyelashes, seemingly seeing a savior. She clung to his legs and sobbed, “Big brother, can you please save my grandpa?”

“Oh.”

“Wuwu…”

The man frowned and fixed his eyes on the girl clinging to his legs, feeling a bit displeased.

“Brother, please save grandpa.” Qiao Xiaotian knew that only this man could save her grandfather. He was the one who brought them here, and he was also the most capable.

“You let go, and let me take a look.” The man had a cold and expressionless face as he looked at her. He didn’t seem interested in saying much.

The girl immediately released her grip on the man’s leg upon hearing his words. Then she stared at him expectantly, hoping he could save her grandfather.

Wu Xiaoyi, the capable man Qiao Xiaotian referred to, was a police officer in Xieshui City.

Out of a sense of responsibility, Wu Xiaoyi believed that he should help these people. They were all citizens of Z Country, and unity was essential to overcome these difficulties.

Although he could have left on his own to go to a safe base, he chose not to. He even saved many survivors along the way.

All the people in this room were brought here by him.

Wu Xiaoyi was a patriotic and peace-loving man. His choice to become a police officer was driven by the desire to protect his country and do what he could to help.

Wu Xiaoyi squatted down and checked the old man, finding that he was not seriously injured.

Apart from catching a cold, not eating and drinking for a long time was the main issue, causing the elderly man’s health to be on the verge of collapse.

Wu Xiaoyi took two packs of bread from his pocket and gave some water to Qiao Xiaotian, saying coldly, “Your grandpa is fine. Just in shock from not eating and drinking for too long.”

Other people in the room looked enviously and greedily at Qiao Xiaotian.

Wu Xiaoyi was an ability user, both a spatial ability user and a mental ability user.

The food in his spatial ability was not abundant.

Even if he shares all the food with him, it is barely enough.

He distributed the food to everyone, with more for those with more people in their group and less for those with fewer people.

There were complaints and grumbling from some people, but they were all frightened by Wu Xiaoyi’s cold gaze.

Wu Xiaoyi didn’t have to help them. He helped them simply because they were all citizens of Z Country.

The thought of leaving also flashed in Wu Xiaoyi’s mind before, but out of instinct, he chose not to.

After everyone in the room had something to eat, they all sat down quietly and began to eat.

The roar of the zombies outside went from initial fear to numbness.

The girl opened the packaging of the bread, tearing the bread into small pieces and feeding them to her grandfather.

She had lived with her grandfather since childhood. They depended on each other. Her parents worked elsewhere, and since the apocalypse, they couldn’t be contacted.

Originally, they thought of going out to find her parents, but they couldn’t deal with those zombies, so they followed Wu Xiaoyi here.

The girl had just turned eighteen, but due to her baby face, she looked much younger, and everyone mistook her for a minor.

Qiao Xiaotian had deep affection for her grandfather, and now that something happened to him, how could she not be sad?

Compared to this place, the situation was much more comfortable where Wen Xiaoxiao was.

They don’t have to worry about food or clothing, and they were able to live comfortably.

After a few days of rest, Cheng Yao could already get out of bed and walk around.

Cheng Yao was a sunny boy who loved to laugh. His sister, however, was a shy girl.

“Mom, I want to eat cookies.” Wen Xiao ran out of another room with chubby legs, looking incredibly cute.

The five children were not as thin as the kids outside but rather white and fat, with tender skin. They had gained many pounds compared to before.

Wen Xiaoxiao picked up Wen Xiao and felt that he had gained quite a bit of weight. She pinched his little nose, laughing and saying, “Look at how chubby you are. You ate so far that you have become a rpund dumpling. In a few more years, Mom won’t be able to carry you.”

Wen Xiaoxiao said jokingly to him.

Wen Xiao wasn’t happy. Pouting his cute mouth into a round shape, his big round eyes gazed at her, then he said softly, “Mom, I’m not fat, I’m cute.”

Who said you’re cute, you little chubby boy.

Bo Yiliang smiled as he watched the two. “My son is really cute. It seems that he inherited this trait from me.”

Wen Xiaoxiao chimed in, “Pfft, clearly, I gave birth to him. How did it become your ‘seed’? You have such a cold face every day. I didn’t see that coming.”

Wen Xiaoxiao stopped teasing him and took him to the kitchen to find some cookies.

There is no way. These five children were all foodies, and it was unclear whom they took after.

Wen Xiaoxiao seemed oblivious to the fact that she was also a foodie.

Carrying Wen Xiao back to the room, she saw the other four playing with puzzles obediently.

After placing Wen Xiao down, she arranged the cookies and small cakes on the little table.

This small table was prepared for the five of them, as they would have some snacks and fruits every day.

Wen Xiaoxiao retrieved some fruits from her space. They were apples, grapes, and peaches.

Of course there were more fruits in her space, but she couldn’t take them all out. It would be suspicious if she really did that.

Except for the five children, no one had entered her room.

Thinking about all the fruits in her space, she considered bringing them out to share.

After contemplating for a moment, she entered her space and took out five foam boxes of strawberries and other vegetables she had grown in the space. They were all tender and juicy.

The same goes for the small kumquat trees. She prepared five foam boxes.

Thinking that even if these weren’t fruits for this season, no one would suspect her. After all, she had a plant ability to accelerate their growth.

She moved them out without any pressure, thinking, “Oh, I am such a clever little fairy.”

Wen Xiaoxiao was quite pleased with herself. This way, they could enjoy fruits without needing to hide them.

It’s not that she was stingy and refused to give them food, but it is just that she didn’t want them to know about her space that could grow plants in faster time.

That was her golden finger. Besides the five kids, she didn’t want others to know it. It would make her uneasy.

She was already uneasy because of the mysterious transmigrating into this world. Accepting it calmly like others was difficult.

It’s not that she was being hypocritical, but since she has already arrived here, she can only go on.

Shaking her head, she thought about the empty room beside hers.

When she came out of space, she walked to the empty room next to her room and brought out strawberries, kumquats, and small tomatoes from her space.

After looking at the empty room, she added ten more foam boxes.

She entered her space again, dug up some small tomatoes in five boxes, and thought about putting them in her room.

Feeling quite accomplished after doing all the tasks, Wen Xiaoxiao happily looked at the ripe strawberries, juicy and sweet.

The kumquat trees were also full of golden fruits.

The small tomatoes were vibrant and red, small, sour and sweet. They were also delicious.

Wen Xiaoxiao took a fruit basket and entered the space to pick some strawberries, kumquats, and small tomatoes to give to the children.

As for the fruits in the room, you can also eat them, but it was better to pick them up from the space.

With the fruit basket slung over her arm, she returned to the room. She smiled at the five children. “Darlings, do you want to eat strawberries, kumquats, and small tomatoes?”

The five children lifted their cute little heads and replied, “Yes!” at the same time.

Mother will take away the fruits on the table, and they can eat them after washing.

“Good.”

Wen Xiaoxiao put the remaining fruits on the table and went to the bathroom to wash the kumquats and small tomatoes, then placed them on the table.

“Mom went downstairs.” The five children nodded and went back to their little games.

Wen Xiaoxiao came out of the room, handed the fruit basket to Pei Xi, and said, “Xiao Xi, please wash the fruits in the kitchen.”

“Okay, Sister Wen.” Pei Xi took the fruit basket and went to the kitchen to wash the fruits.

Several people looked at her with puzzled expressions, wondering why there were still fruits. After the apocalypse, fruits were mostly rotten and inedible.

Jiang Fuci curiously asked, “Xiaoxiao, where did these fruits come from? Aren’t fruits no longer available?”

    Thanks for the chapter ☺️

  2. M&M's says:

For someone so concerned about not wasting food because they need to conserve their resources, Wen Xiaoxiao sure is very easy on wasting resources to make cookies and cakes for the children when they don’t technically need them. On a side note, I wonder how all those ordinary people will survive with only Wu Xiaoyi supporting them. It’s good that he wants to help many people, but he should only help when he’s capable of providing for them sufficiently or then no one will survive at the rate they’re going with more and more people and less available food to go around.

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀
