Surviving in Apocalypse with Children

Willing

This way, there will be something for his son to eat.

Cheng Yi pondered for a moment and then opened the door.

Two young people stood outside the door. They were dressed neatly and possessed an outstanding aura.

Wen Xiaoxiao observed Cheng Yi. He was a tall man with a square-shaped face. He exuded a sincere and simple aura. His face was a little haggard, and he was dressed in dirty clothes and even had a faint unpleasant smell.

“Brother, are you willing to join me as my driver? I will provide accommodation and food.” Wen Xiaoxiao stated her offer without beating around the bush.

After hearing this, Cheng Yi found the offer feasible. Being an ordinary person, having someone willing to take them in naturally meant he was willing.

After a brief hesitation, Cheng Yi nodded, his voice slightly hoarse as he said, “I’m willing.”

Yun Jiao, who was squatting on the ground and crying while caressing her son, did not clearly hear their conversation.

However, Cheng Yue caught the words, and her eyes shimmered with a glint of hope.

“Big brother can be saved,” she thought to herself.

At thirteen years old, Cheng Yue had matured considerably through these experiences. She looked at Wen Xiaoxiao with a face full of gratitude.

Wen Xiaoxiao then laid down a few rules for Cheng Yi.

“Then you’ll have to follow my rules. First, you must listen to my orders and not betray me. Second, if you want to leave, I’ll agree, but you can’t take anything with you. Lastly, I can provide you with food and shelter, but don’t forget your roots.”

“Can you abide by these three rules?” Wen Xiaoxiao asked Cheng Yi with a serious expression.

“I can, I promise.” Cheng Yi replied without hesitation.

“Alright, tidy up a bit. I’ll wait outside for you.” Wen Xiaoxiao said.

After saying this, she went outside to wait, and Cheng Yi gently patted his wife.

“Jiao’er, let’s go! Our son is saved.” Cheng Yi said softly to his wife.

Yun Jiao lifted her head and turned to look at him, her eyes were teary, slightly red and swollen.

“What are you saying? Is it true?” Yun Jiao’s voice trembled with excitement, slightly raised and choked with emotion.

“Yes! Just now, a young girl and a young man came and asked me to be their driver.” Cheng Yi explained.

Before the apocalypse, he had also worked as a driver, so his driving skills were unquestionable.

There wasn’t much to pack, just a few pieces of clothing, some of which had been previously rejected by others.

They finished packing up. Cheng Yi carried his unconscious son on his back.

Yun Jiao held her daughter’s hand and followed behind her husband.

Wen Xiaoxiao watched them go out and said, “Let’s go!”

She led them toward the direction of the RV.

In no time, they reached where the RV was parked.

After getting inside, Wen Xiaoxiao briefed them on what needed to be done.

Having lost quite some time, it was already noon.

Seeing that someone was available to cook, Wen Xiaoxiao asked Yun Jiao to prepare the food.

The four of them shared a single room on the first floor of the RV. There were two beds in it, which was more than enough for them.

The RV’s large space inside meant they wouldn’t feel too crowded.

Cheng Yi laid his son on the bed, watched him for a while, and then went out.

Cheng Yue joined her mother in the kitchen to help. The aroma of the food reached her nose, causing her stomach to growl even more.

But she could only endure it and wait until mealtime.

There is not much food cooked, just steamed rice and three dishes, plus one soup. One meat dish and two vegetable dishes

Although there are only three dishes, the portions are quite generous.

Because Cheng Yao was still unconscious, the congee was the best food for him.

Yun Jiao carried the congee and went to the room to feed her son.

Seeing his mouth move, Yun Jiao’s heart eased considerably.

After feeding a bowl of congee to her son, Yun Jiao had her meal as well.

Once they were full and refreshed, they resumed their journey.

  1. M&M's says:

With the addition of Cheng Yi’ family, how many rooms does that leave unoccupied in the RV? I’m trying to determine if she’ll take any more people based on the number of rooms, but at this point, I’m going to guess she has the help she needs for their party.

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀

Fourteen people so far. I did a bit of research.

I found a YT vid of a double-decker bus conversion with a couple bed, a bathroom, and two bunk beads in the upper story. By looking at his plans, you could stretch that to 5 bunks and a single adult-sized bed. Downstairs had kitchen, couch, and a chair, with a fold up table for 4.

(There is also something called a “sleeper coach”, where one side of a single story bus has top/bottom bunks and the other is a single row of seats and a bathroom. It can hold 14, but nothing else.)

In Chapter 8, WXX’s RV was shown as having 185 sq meters, which is not a measure of volume. Assuming Author-nim meant cubic meters, it still doesn’t fit the physics. A standard double decker bus has approximately 100 cubic meters of space.

So, using WXX’s chapter 8 dimensions and removing 4 bathrooms, you could fit 14 people comfortably. But only if you weld two double-decker busses together. Either 6 meters wide or 26 meters in length. 🚌🚌 or 🚍🚍

A more realistic approach might be to pick up other vehicles into a convoy of sorts. Maybe other RVs or a large capacity van or lorry so some sleep and some drive, and they split sleeping and food preparation in WXX RV, making everything less cramped. Even better if someone could drive a fuel tanker! ⛽️
