Surviving in Apocalypse with Children

Strange Tension

After resting for a while, they continued their journey. After all, leaving early is always better, right?

The distance from City W to City B is around six to seven hundred miles when driving. Without zombies, you could reach it in just a day by plane.

But things are different now. If nothing unexpected happens, it will take about a month to get there. What a pity, that’s the reality they have to accept.

The car had already entered the city area. The once clean asphalt road had become dirty and stained with lots of marks, carrying a strong smell of blood.

The sky was getting dark, and the number of zombies around them was increasing.

“Roar, roar, roar…”

Wen Xiaoxiao frowned as she looked out of the window at the increasing horde of zombies. She still felt shocked. In just a few days, the number of zombies had grown so much.

Some of them had even leveled up, which is not a good thing.

Wen Xiaoxiao glanced at the five children who had fallen asleep and then looked at Bao Yilang who seemed lost in thought about something.

It was already past four o’clock at the moment. Inside the RV, it was undoubtedly the safest for them.

If they drove for one day and one night, they would reach the busiest part of the city, followed by the three cities, including City H, City S, City C, and finally City B.

Wen Xiaoxiao thought for a moment and decided to take on the responsibility of driving at night.

She said to the people in front of him, “After we have dinner, I’ll drive. You go and have a rest. Once you have rested, I’ll take a break.”

Qi Yan and Meng Qing, who were sitting in the front row, had no objections and thought it was a good idea.

“Roar!”

When the zombies heard the commotion, they rushed over. Their speed is much faster than before.

Their faces were unrecognizable, and the fangs in their mouths looked terrifying.

Qi Yan didn’t pay them any attention and just drove right into them.

“Bang…”

The sound of the impact woke up the five children.

But Pei Xi remained silent, as if he didn’t exist at all.

The RV was very quiet, and the air was filled with a strange tension.

“Roar…”

“Roar roar…”

The growls of the zombies were getting closer and closer.

Not far away from the RV, the survivors hiding in the nearby store revealed a glint of greed in their eyes.

The store’s entrance was blocked with something, and it wasn’t easy to break through it easily.

There were about ten people inside. There was a man in a suit who looked very elegant and polite. Just by looking at him once, he seemed to be a different person.

Aside from the man, there were three teenagers, around 17 to 18, two young women, and a married couple with two children.

The RV was slowly getting closer to their location.

Several people’s eyes lit up with joy, thinking that they were saved.

After training for some time, Wen Xiaoxiao’s eyesight was very good, so she naturally noticed their joy. But what did that have to do with her?

She quietly sneered in her heart. They have hands and feet, but they didn’t bother to make any efforts to survive. From the looks of it, they wanted her to bring them inside the RV.

Dream on!

She took Pei Xi with her because she saw that he could fight and face the zombies without backing down. In addition, she held a favorable impression of him, so she allowed him to go with her.

As for the people inside the store, she couldn’t care less about their fate. There are a lot of things to consider, not to mention the food. She didn’t like them coming in and being noisy, and they were still a burden.

Since the moment she became sensible and knew things, she has gone her own way, although she didn’t have many friends and wasn’t fond of talking.

Wen Xiaoxiao fell into deep thought as she thought about these things.

She was more curious about why she transmigrated here. Until now, she still didn’t know the answer.

When they passed by the store where those people were hiding, a knocking sound rang.

Wen Xiaoxiao was pulled to her senses by the sound. Her mouth curled into a disdainful and cold sneer.

Why should she save them for no reason?

She didn’t owe them anything, even though they were all from the same country.

Others were not her concern.

Wen Xiaoxiao was a cold-blooded person. She usually didn’t care about the people she didn’t like or were not familiar with.

She only cared about her five children and wanted them to have a good life.

  1. M&M's says:

I agree with Wen Xiaoxiao that she can’t just take anyone along, especially not understanding their situation. Waiting around for someone to save them isn’t wrong either because each person has their own considerations and fears, but they shouldn’t expect it to be a given that others are obligated to save them, just like Wei Xiaoxiao shouldn’t expect others to have the same resolve as her to save themselves. It does make them seem of poorer quality, though, as they don’t even try to resolve their situation when they could have worked together to deal with the zombies in the early stage to flee toward a base, but it’s easier said than done.

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀
