Surviving in Apocalypse with Children

Zombie King

On the rooftop stood a man wearing tattered clothes.

No, to be precise.

That person is the “Zombie King.”

He was the leader among the numerous zombie groups and was capable of controlling many zombies to besiege a city.

Ordinary zombies have no thoughts, but the Zombie King was different.

It possessed thoughts and was the most outstanding among the zombie horde.

The Zombie King, with its grayish-white eyes, looked in the direction where the RV departed. When the space was used, it caught a whiff of a rich aroma, its mind occupied only with the thought of savoring a delicious meal.

Meanwhile, Wen Xiaoxiao was cooking happily in the kitchen, oblivious to the fact that she had attracted the attention of the Zombie King.

Wen Xiaoxiao flashed into the space and looked at the plump fish swimming in the river and the grass prawns. Seeing this, she knew exactly what dish to stir-fry.

She went inside the house, took out a wooden bucket, rolled up her sleeves and pant legs, removed her shoes, and stepped into the river.

The fish were plentiful, and Wen Xiaoxiao effortlessly caught them. Almost every fish weighed around four to five kilograms, some even reaching six to seven kilograms.

Wen Xiaoxiao grabbed two fish weighing around four to five kilograms each and put them in the wooden bucket. Then she caught numerous grass prawns and added them to the wooden bucket.

She cut a small bunch of garlic chives and planned to stir-fry them with the grass prawns.

She also picked some cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplants, string beans, and so on.

After coming out of the space, Wen Xiaoxiao processed the fish neatly. Her speed was very fast.

Once the fish was prepared, she moved on to the prawns.

Wen Xiaoxiao placed the prawns in a basin and rinsed them several times with clean water.

The small river in the space was already very clean to begin with, so a few rinses would be enough.

Next, she washed the vegetables, cut the green onions, ginger, and garlic, and set them aside.

After the fire was lit, the pot heated, and oil poured in. The aroma of sautéed green onions, ginger, and garlic filled the air. Wen Xiaoxiao gently placed the fish in the pot, frying them until golden brown. She added seasoning, poured in the flavorful water, and let it simmer over medium heat for a while.

Wen Xiaoxiao performed every action with precision.

She wore a pink rabbit apron around her waist, and as she moves, the apron swings back and forth.

Meanwhile, a few little ones were playing hide-and-seek, finding something to do out of boredom.

“Uncle, we’re hidden!” The children shout one by one.

Wen Runhan stood on the first floor. After hearing that they were hiding, he leisurely went upstairs.

“Brother, Uncle won’t find us!” Wen Bei whispered in Wen Xiao’s ear.

The two little ones hid under the bed, speaking softly.

“Sister, don’t talk.” Wen Xiao hushed, placing his chubby hand over his sister’s mouth.

Wen Bei obediently nodded and stopped speaking.

The other three children didn’t choose to hide under the bed like Wen Xiao and Wen Bei.

Wen Mo hid behind the door. As long as Wen Runhan pushed the door open, he would no longer be seen.

As the saying goes, “The most dangerous place is also the safest.”

So Wen Mo chose a common place to hide, which was the most dangerous but also the safest.

Wen Heng hid inside the closet. He placed a pillow on the bed to make it seem like someone was lying there.

As for Wen Yang, he nestled inside the blankets. Not just any blanket, but the one his dad used. He even stuffed another pillow into the blanket nearby to make it look like someone else.

Wen Runhan came upstairs and checked each room. If he didn’t find anyone, he moved on to the next room.

Wen Mo held his breath and listened to any sounds outside, knowing that his uncle was about to open the door.

Wen Runhan opened the door and entered. He inspected the room, found no one else aside from the fruits, closed the door, and moved to the next room.

The place where Wen Mo was hiding was where Wen Xiaoxiao kept the fruits.

Even though Wen Runhan hadn’t found anyone yet, he didn’t show any signs of discouragement at all.

  1. M&M's says:

Most of the kids are pretty clever in their hiding tactics, especially Wen Mo; he definitely takes after his father, lol. I’m pretty sure Wen Bei and Wen Xiao will be found first, though, since it’s too classic of a hiding spot.

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀
