Surviving in a School of Ghost Stories

Chapter 36

I stared blankly at the open window, shocked, and then turned to Easton.

“Senior, do you know why Raven is acting like this?”

“Well, I don’t know either. So could you tell Raven…”

“It’s difficult to convey anything. He doesn’t listen to others.”

“It’s hard for me to meet him to tell him…”

“I’m sure it is. He’s an expert at running away. He’s so agile. Unfortunately, there’s nothing I can do to help.”

Come on, let me speak!

Easton folded his arms and looked me up and down with an incredulous expression.

“You two really don’t look alike.”

“Who doesn’t look alike?”

“You and Raven don’t look alike, Senior.”

I’ve heard that a lot since childhood, so it didn’t bother me much. Siblings don’t always look alike, right?

Then Easton said something I didn’t understand:

“Don’t try so hard in this school.”

“I don’t know what you mean.”

“No matter how hard you try here, the ones who really succeed are separate anyway.”

Easton looked at me pitifully and patted my shoulder.

“Hang in there, senior. I genuinely wish you the best.”

Something felt strange, but seeing that Easton was genuinely cheering for me made it awkward to respond.

I wanted to refute, but Easton had already said goodbye and walked away.

Even after that, I came to the 1st year S class several times, but it was difficult to catch Raven who was desperately running away.

Later, I was banned from approaching within 100m of the building due to complaints from 1st year homeroom teachers that I was disrupting the class atmosphere.

And that news spread quickly throughout the school.

On a holiday afternoon.

Sally suddenly came to our room.

“I knew you’d all be cooped up in your room! Let’s go down to the village together to refresh ourselves!”

She smiled and strode into our room.

Erica, who was rolling on the living room floor with the black cat with yellow eyes, frowned.

“Why would Melody go to the village with just you, Sally? You two aren’t close.”

“We are close. And Erica, you’re coming too, right?”

“Right. We are close.”

Erica got up from her seat, holding the black cat as if she had been waiting for this.

I checked the cat’s eye color. It was yellow. After staring blankly at the cat, I answered a bit glumly.

“I didn’t say I was going.”

Sally narrowed her eyes and looked me up and down, then shook her head as if it wouldn’t do.

“Well, you might think differently after getting scolded by money.”

“Why would money scold me…?”

“Follow me if you’re curious. This Sally needs to give Melody a good scolding with money.”

Why do I suddenly need to be scolded with money?

Not knowing what was going on, I was dragged out by Erica and Sally.

The two women who had glared at each other as if they would be eternal rivals seem to have become quite close after the elevator ghost incident.

To go to the village on weekends, we needed to get a leave pass, which was in the main building.

And in the main building lobby, there was the student bulletin board.

“Oh? Wait a minute.”

Sally couldn’t pass by it and stopped. And I soon found out why.

There was another story about me on the student bulletin board.

Saint Gloria Private School Student Bulletin Board

Bulletin Board for Continental Year 902, September 10th

It seems like the transfer student and Crazven are playing tag these days, does anyone know why they’re doing this?

⌎Just leave it. I go to school these days to watch their tag game.

⌎I am curious when Crazven will be caught.

⌎Isn’t anyone curious why they’re playing tag?

⌎What’s the point of knowing? As long as it’s fun

⌎The future of the school is dark

⌎Then brighten it up

“Melody, you’ve been doing something really fun.”

Erica’s face remained expressionless, but she seemed intrigued.

Sally was about to add something, but someone spoke to me before she could.

“Hastings. I was getting annoyed because we kept missing each other whenever I tried to find you, but here we meet.”

I turned around to see a familiar face.

A 4th-year male student with a cold face that looked like he had rarely smiled in his life, wearing intellectual glasses. It was Weston Campbell Lauderdale.

Senior Weston frowned upon seeing Erica. He seemed to know that she was a student council member.

I was reminded once again that the disciplinary committee disliked the student council.

“So you’re with a student council member.”

“She’s my roommate.”

Senior Weston looked back and forth between Erica and me, then sighed while running his hand through his hair.

After examining me carefully, he spoke in a calm tone.

“I heard you suddenly disappeared from the girls’ dormitory, but I’m glad to see you’re fine.”

Despite his cold and chilly tone, his eyes were quite kind.

“Everyone in the committee was worried. Make sure to at least greet Father Miella, especially.”

Only then did I remember that I hadn’t greeted the disciplinary committee members.

I had agreed to keep watch in the lobby on behalf of the male members who couldn’t enter the girls’ dormitory, but then disappeared. No wonder they were worried.

I looked at Senior Weston with slightly apologetic eyes.

“I’m sorry. I had an urgent matter that day and was in a rush.”

Senior Weston tilted his head with a look of incomprehension.

“What on earth were you doing that made you leave your post and forget about it until now?”

“It was because of us. Melody did nothing wrong.”

At that moment, thinking that Senior Weston was interrogating me, Sally stepped in to defend me.

Then Erica, who had been quietly observing the situation, chimed in.

“That’s right. Sally and I were fighting in the lobby, and Melody just got caught up in our fight.”

Hearing this, Senior Weston’s expression showed that he now understood the whole situation. It seems he had seen Erica and Sally fight more than once or twice.

“Anyway…”

He shook his head, looking back and forth between Sally and Erica.

“Be careful in the village.”

“Yes, Senior!”

“Understood.”

“Sorry for causing worry.”

Sally and Erica greeted him first, and I followed last.

Suddenly, I thought we looked like little birds chirping at their big brother.

Senior Weston must have had a similar thought, as he let out a small chuckle.

“Alright.”

He coolly left the scene.

We then quickly got our leave passes and left the school, avoiding the gazes of students who were paying attention to us.

Noah Eugene Eglinton was reading a book in the student council’s office.

Just then, Easton burst open the office door with a bang. With a casual movement, he slung his bag over one shoulder and asked Noah.

“Senior, I saw the student bulletin board the other day. What’s your relationship with Hastings?”

“Raven?”

“Not Raven Hastings, I mean senior Melody Hastings. You’re pretending not to know when you know everything.”

Noah closed the book he was reading.

“I think it’s time to officially start our plan.”

“We were talking about Hastings, why are you suddenly changing the subject?”

“I am talking about Hastings. She can see ‘them’. As naturally as breathing, even in everyday life.”

“So what does Senior Hastings have to do with our plan… Wait, what? What does Senior Hastings see? She sees them? And as naturally as breathing?!”

Noah nodded at Easton’s astonished question.

“How is that possible? Even I, with shaman bloodline, can only see them under specific conditions. Even my brother, who has shaman blood, can’t see anything. Even clergy can’t see them as naturally as breathing.”

“That’s why we need to keep her by our side, right?”
