CHAPTER 5: HERE, NOW, AND YOU (IX)

Part 105

The carriage departed in the morning and ran without stopping until the sun set. She entered the small road into the forest and ate, drank, slept, and drank and slept in the moving carriage. She used the medicine in the bottle so ignorantly that she didn’t even want to imagine what the ingredients were, but she endured it and drank it. Was it a medicine that hits your tongue and makes you come to your senses? She had to regain her stamina somehow. When she felt tired, she also stretched. The muscle pain all over her body was still there, but as time went by, she was able to move more and more. When the sun had completely set and it was getting dark, Homer stopped his carriage. As she stepped out of the carriage, she found herself in a forest with a pleasantly cool breeze blowing. She stretched out, taking a deep breath of the clear forest air, but her whole body creaked. She tapped him on the waist and Homer, who was making a bonfire, asked anxiously:

“Are you having a hard time?”

“No. Homer must be having a hard time. Driving a carriage all day.”

“This is no problem.”

Homer smiled kindly as he boiled water over the campfire. As the sun set, it was quite chilly, so she sat by the fire to warm herself, so they offered her some hot tea. When did they get all of this in such a short amount of time? As she drank warm tea and looked at the crackling bonfire, not only her body but also her heart melted little by little. She had been through some really weird things these past few days. No, she was still going through it. Who would have thought that on this fine autumn night, she would be having a bonfire with Homer in a forest she had never been to before? Adrian, who came back, and she roasted sesame seeds and squeezed sesame oil and it wasn’t enough, so what were we doing?

What on earth did Hegel do wrong and act so crazy? It was clearly Hegel who stopped the guy who was swinging a knife at me. He even gave him some bread, saying he had to eat it since it wasn’t poisonous, and he looked really excited, still calling Adrian his lord and telling him nonsense about how he was going to make him emperor.

‘If you like Adrian so much, why do you do something that hurts him? When he becomes Emperor, will he be happy?’

Just imagining what Adrian was doing right now made her heart ache like this. Her heart hurted this much, and it hurted even more when she thought that Adrian would also be hurt this much. Knowing that the person you like was going to be hurt, and then putting him through this? That’s funny. You have to make it so painful that it hurts you to death, and those who say that this is all for you should be labeled as idiots. You hurt our Adrian, so you have to do it twice.

Her heart becomes sharp, but it quickly becomes heavy. She could tolerate being angry and upset, but how could she endure missing something? She missed Adrian. Did he eat his meal? Was he sleeping well? It’s not going to be as bad as last time, was it? It shouldn’t be like that. She could see Adrian’s face through the flames, so she lost her mind for a while, then felt his gaze and raised her head. Homer was looking at her with his face sparkling in the light.

“Oh, I’m sorry. I haven’t even said thank you yet. Homer, thank you for coming to save me.”

“Did I save Damien?”

“Sure?”

When she asked him the obvious and tilted his head, his beautiful face became blurry. Homer shook his head, not with a bright smile, but with a vague, blurred smile.

“I couldn’t save Damian. I can’t get it myself. I knew it, but it hurts a little.”

When she was speechless, he tried to hide his expression and avoided eye contact as he put something into the boiling pot. She didn’t know everything. Likewise, she still didn’t know what’s on his mind. But, she knew he liked her. She knew that he saved her from danger, followed her wishes, and worried about her. She couldn’t answer what she didn’t know, but answer what she did know.

“Homer saved me. I want you to know that I appreciate you so much. Thank you for always being a good person to me.”

“You are a good person.”

“Anytime.”

Homer shook his head and laughed haha.

“The Duke is a pretty person.”

And he smiled very prettily and looked at her. She shrugged her shoulders and answered.

“What can I do? The bean pods won’t come off.”

Homer burst into laughter again at her words. They looked at each other, laughed, and shared a well-cooked stew. The many issues that could not be confirmed were put aside for a moment, and a light talk continued.

“Is that Homer’s house?”

“Yes, my hometown.”

“I see. What about your family?”

“Everyone is dead.”

“Sorry. I asked you something pointless.”

Homer smiled faintly, saying it was okay. It seemed like it was a house with small children playing with small dolls. She didn’t know what to say and looked at him with an apologetic heart, but Homer spoke first.

“The Viscounty of Gorgen was originally the County of Beelzeb. Not long after it was changed to Viscounty territory, I came to Midok. Even though the house is now empty and there is no one left, I can’t dispose of it, so I stop by from time to time. Now I really have to dispose of it.”

She guessed she wanted to put it down now. The traces of precious people who couldn’t be with them now can make those who couldn’t let go of their memories hurt. Her heart ached because her gaze looked into the distance and seemed lonely. Sometimes words of comfort could be rude, so she couldn’t say anything and just patted Homer, who was sitting next to her, on his arm.

“After dropping Damian off at Midoc, I think I’ll leave.”

“Yes? Why?”

“I killed the crown prince.”

Uh? Didn’t Adrian kill him? Did he just say…? No, whether it’s Adrian or Homer, it’s not these people who were bad, so why leave Homer behind?

“Why is that? Was it a situation where either Homer or Adrian had to be killed? There are other bad guys I ordered to kill, but why Homer? Don’t go.”

“Haha. They will be punished. But anyway, since he died by my sword, I will have to be punished too. I want to run away before then.”

“Nonsense. Who punishes Homer? I will speak carefully to Adrian and the princess. I’ll at least write a petition!”

“I am grateful, Damian, but I think my work is done now. I was called the king’s dog.”

Since the king and the crown prince were dead, the dog should also disappear. She was so upset that he referred to himself as a dog with a lonely face, so she slapped him on the arm where she had patted him a little while ago. Homer looked at her with wide eyes.

“What nonsense are you talking about? The royal provincial administration is in a mess right now, so how can a first-class administrator get rid of it? All Homer did was keep up with the crown prince? That’s not true. It’s even more impossible now that there’s no crown prince. Homer has a lot of work to do, so where are the high-quality people thinking of running away? never.”

As she spoke firmly, Homer looked at her with even wider eyes, and after a long moment, he burst into laughter. Why did Homer run away? Even if he gets an award, he should get a very big one. It’s a bit weird to say this to a dead person, but he’s a bit of a kid anyway, huh? It was like that, right? They said the princess was a sinner who needed to be punished. Even if it’s a problem because he’s a royal, can’t we just say that Homer was active? When she meets the princess, she has to lie down and tell her not to punish him. There will be at least a one-person protest in front of the main palace.

While she was making her decision, Homer, who had been laughing with his face down between his knees, raised his head again with a refreshed face.

“Okay. Because there is no crown prince anymore. There must be a lot more to do.”

“Of course!”

After thwarting Homer’s escape plan and taking a short rest, they prepared to set off again. He told her to rest in the carriage, but Homer said he would drive the carriage all night, so she was worried, but the moon was bright, so there was no problem. What she was worried about was Homer’s stamina for driving all night, not the lighting issues. Come to think of it, he also had a knife fight with militiamen. She thought he would be similar to her because his profession was an administrator, but it turned out that Homer was also of a different race than her.

As she got into the carriage, she looked up and saw that the moon was shining beautifully.

‘Just wait a moment, Adrian. I’ll go get you soon.’

* * *

Jenny was sobbing in front of a bundle of hair lying on the table. Adrian handed it to Jenny for confirmation. There was no way she wouldn’t recognize Damian’s hair, which she looked at and smoothed more often than her own face. Franz, standing in the doorway with a face as if he was about to cry, looked at Jenny, who covered her face with her hands and shook her shoulders. Franz approached Jenny, who was crying so hard that she couldn’t even touch her cut hair.

“Sister. If you cry like that, your wounds will open again.”

Jenny sharply slapped away Franz’s hand, which was heading for Jenny’s shoulder. He had a wet face and was glaring at her.

“Do not touch! I don’t want to see you, so why do you keep acting like this?”

Franz, who had a surprised face, had tears in his eyes. One side of Franz’s face, who was looking down at Jenny with his eyebrows furrowed and his face as if he was crying, was bruised and swollen. Jenny was offended again by that sight and turned her gaze away from Franz. When Jenny turned away, Franz felt even more upset. On the day Damien was kidnapped, Jenny had already fainted when they arrived at the duke’s residence after forcing him into a carriage. Franz’s heart seemed to stop as he watched Jenny losing her life, staining her bed with blood until the Bigor family’s doctor came rushing in. No, the moment she saw Hegel stabbing Jenny with his sword, she felt like her heart had already stopped.

Franz was a soldier who had seen countless people die, and he knew that the blood flowing down Jenny’s dress would soon take Jenny’s life. She didn’t know how many worries were going through Franz’s mind in those few seconds as he looked at Damian, who was heading towards Hegel, telling him to save Jenny. She didn’t know about Ethan or George, but they were still not up to the level of Thierry and Hegel. No matter how long it takes, the palace has already been taken over by them. In the end, after being defeated by Hegel, he became the second and Jenny was sure to die. In the midst of countless conflicts, Damian became distant, and Jenny, who had been calling for Damian with tears in her eyes full of resentment, was forcefully brought back and saved. However, since opening her eyes, Jenny has not tried to look at Franz. The doctor was so angry whenever Franz showed up that he even banned Franz from entering the hospital. Franz barely turned and came out of the room, leaving Jenny crying again while ignoring him. Ethan, who was waiting in front of the door, looked at Franz’s red, bloodshot eyes and clicked his tongue.

“Did they say the young lady’s hair is right??

Ethan, who was about to turn away from Franz, who nodded, clicked his tongue again when he saw one of Franz’s swollen cheeks.

“Did you apply some medicine? Is this something that is missing in the end??”

“It’s okay because my lord takes great care of me.”

The molar that had been shaking for a while after being hit by Adrian eventually fell out. Nevertheless, Franz knew that Adrian had been very patient. Edan agreed with him. If he had really hit it hard, it wouldn’t have been his teeth that would have fallen off, but his jawbone.

“Is Jenny still very angry?”

“I can’t forgive myself either, but my sister will do it even more. Brother, is there any news from our lady yet? “My lady, I’m sure you’ll be safe, right?”

Franz asked pleadingly, with tears welling up in his red eyes again.

“Of course you idiot! He will be back soon. certainly.”

“I will kill that guy with my own hands.”

Ethan sighed inwardly when he heard Franz muttering evilly. The youngest child’s eyes, which were always bright, were filled with venom.
