CHAPTER 5: HERE, NOW, AND YOU (VII)
Part 103
On Monday morning, nobles gathered together with heavy faces. Following the guidance of the militia, the nobles who filled the throne room approached Adrian to say hello, but ducked to avoid his murderous actions. When all the nobles gathered, Adrian climbed up onto the throne room platform. Hennessy and Doyev stood side by side behind Adrian. Adrian opened his mouth, radiating cold air.
“I assume you knew the general situation and attended, so I will get straight to the point. Anyone who thinks it is unfair for me to sit here, please come forward.”
Even Abu could not open his mouth even though he was pressured by the energy of Adrian, who was standing right next to the king’s seat and looking down at the nobles. Most of the nobles shared looks in their eyes and were in trouble. Now that the crown prince was dead and gone, there was no one more suitable for the throne than Adrian. He was clearly a member of the royal family, possessed outstanding skills, and was highly trusted by the royal people. Although he had heard rumors that his fiancée had been captured and that he was being manipulated by those behind the scenes, many nobles thought it was just an excuse for him to ascend to the throne. It seemed absurd that he had no choice but to become king in order to save a captured woman. While everyone was muttering, Duke Galleon spoke up for the first time in a long time.
“I believe that Duke Bigor is the more worthy owner of the throne than anyone else. The Galleon family will actively support Duke Bigor’s ascension to the throne.”
As he looked down at him, he saw Galleon Hennessy share a look. Although it was only a brief moment, the two clearly confirmed each other’s meaning and nodded. Adrian looked back at Hennessy, who was smiling, and furrowed his eyebrows. There was a part of me that believed. When Duke Galleon steps forward like that, public opinion changes only for a moment. Sure enough, many nobles moved to their seats behind Duke Galleon and added their voices. Some nobles who saw the monarch’s image in Adrian’s actions during the war actively took part.
“Duke Bigor, who saved Laurentyne from danger, is truly destined to become king.”
“Who else but the Duke would say he is qualified?”
Among the nodding nobles, Duke Donovan stepped forward to object. There is a definite law in the Laurentian royal family. How can Duke Bigor, a descendant of the late king’s second son, be a worthy successor? He shares the same views as Duke Canodovan, has his eyes set on Princess Lemina, or remembers Adrian, who ran for Damian in the form of a ghost. The nobles stood behind Duke Donovan. The Laurentian nobility was almost split in half. Duke Galleon raised his voice and listened.
“If Duke Bigor is not worthy, then who are you going to put on the throne? Are you going to keep the throne empty like this?”
“What can you say, when the eldest son of the deceased King is still alive!”
“All the residents of Midok saw that His Highness the Crown Prince’s neck was caught in a substance. Lord Donovan, don’t talk nonsense!”
“The Crown Prince is not the eldest son of the previous king. Have you forgotten? Duke of Galleon. Who was the first descendant of Ortega IV?”
Duke Galleon thought of Lemina and snorted.
“The princess is a woman!”
“There is no law anywhere in the royal law that says a woman cannot ascend to the throne.”
“Absurd!”
Duke Galleon shouted fiercely, and a soft old man’s voice came from the end of the throne room.
“It’s not nonsense.”
All eyes gathered behind them, and as they entered the throne room, they made their way after checking who had spoken. Among them, there were nobles who bowed their heads to show respect. An old scholar with a long white beard entered the throne room with his son. The dean of Laurentine Academy, where not only the royal family but also most nobles study, appeared. He walked slowly and continued speaking softly but firmly.
“This is a conclusion reached after a long period of study by academics. The first line of succession to the throne is the king’s eldest son, that is, the first descendant of the king and queen. The first queen of Ortega IV was Queen Helen of the Galleon family, his descendant, Princess Remina, is the undisputed successor in name and reality.”
“That’s nonsense!”
Duke Galleon shouted, but the dean refused to give up and continued.
“I declare on behalf of the Laurentian community that the rightful heir to the throne of Laurentyne is Remina He Stein Hegemony.”
While all the nobles were speechless with their mouths open in shock, the son narrowed his eyes at Adrian from behind the dean. Adrian also responded by nodding his head slightly. For today’s appearance, my son ran around until his feet were sweaty. On several occasions, he visited old school leaders who had vowed never to deal with each other again and tried to convince them. When the war broke out and the Crown Prince’s lack of qualifications and Princess Remina’s leadership were revealed, things became easier. It took a long time to convince the dean, but it was definitely effective. Many nobles who had served the dean as a gift at the academy during their childhood were unable to openly protest and kept their mouths shut. As the situation progressed like this, it was Hennessy who was frustrated. The nobles, who knew that Hennessy was the one who overturned the royal palace, glared at him harshly, and those who heard about the situation from Duke Donovan raised their voices and unanimously argued about Remina’s legitimacy. As the plan to confirm Adrian’s enthronement at today’s meeting began to go wrong, Hennessy muttered in a low voice into the back of Adrian’s head.
“If things continue like this, no good will come to you.”
“I cannot ascend to the throne without the approval of the nobles.”
“If you don’t take the throne, your little girl won’t be able to come back. Is that okay?”
Adrian looked back at Hennessy with red-hot eyes, but Hennessy smiled wickedly and said,
“We’ll have a banquet on Friday. That’s when we’ll announce your enthronement. I can’t wait any longer.”
While Adrian gritted his teeth and controlled his anger, the Duke of Galleon, who shared a look with Hennessy, came forward.
“Well, even so, you don’t even know where the princess is, right? If you want to claim her right to succession, she should have been present at this event. A living cow!”
You can’t just wait for a princess you don’t know.
“What nonsense! Of course, stay strong!”
“Does the duke know where the princess is? He should have brought her here! It’s unreasonable for someone who doesn’t even attend this important event to be crowned king!”
Several nobles, who were more focused on Adrian’s throne than the unfamiliar queen, nodded, and Duke Nodovan was sobbing but could not come forward. These are the guys who put the crown prince’s head on the line for a spectacle. In a situation like this, he couldn’t be sure what they would do if they found out where Remina was. While meeting the heavy gaze of the Duke of Donovan, Adrian opened his mouth, which had been tightly closed.
“On Friday, we are holding a banquet. If the princess does not appear, we will assume that she has given up her right to succession and announce her enthronement. Anyone who wants to disobey, come forward now.”
After finishing speaking, Adrian looked over the heads of the nobles on the podium, and the nobles who were making noise closed their mouths and lowered their eyes. Hennessy left the throne room, giggling, and the Duke of Galleon looked around him a few times and followed him out. The other nobles also left the throne room, looking closely. In the empty throne room, Duke Donovan approached Adrian, who was staring at the floor with his red eyes.
“It’s obvious that they will try to harm Remina as well.”
“You must not be exposed to them. Please do not attend the banquet.”
“I think so too, but then the Duke has no choice but to ascend to the throne.”
“Duke Galleon seemed to have colluded with them, but the other nobles were looking at me. The Duke, please meet them. If more than half of the nobles do not agree, he cannot be crowned. Please gather opposing opinions.”
“What are you going to do with the ball?”
Adrian could not answer Duke Donovan’s question. What was he going to do? A strong headache came over me as he felt the torn nerves of having to find Damian. Adrian’s face turned pale as he gritted his teeth and endured it. Will he be able to slit the head of Remina, who is in the same situation as Tyrellius? He wanted to say this was ridiculous, but Damian’s face came to mind as well. If he had to choose between the two, his choice was obvious. therefore. Before that, he had to find Damian somehow.
“Lord Donovan. If I’m really going to do something crazy, cut me down. Command of the entire army will be transferred to Cale. Cale will do a good job of cleaning things up.”
“Duke. What do you mean!”
Duke Donovan shouted in surprise, but was speechless when he saw Adrian with the face of a dead man. Red eyes were trembling. Adrian walked out of the throne room. It was Duke Donovan who raised his hand to catch his back, but he could not catch him.
* * *
Hennessy and Doyev, who were the owners of the palace, led the militia and started preparing for the banquet by intimidating the palace officials, and the palace was already in disarray. Although Adrian left the palace on horseback, he lost track of where to return. The steps towards Duke Bigor’s residence where Damian had disappeared were extremely heavy. She said that without her, the Dukes of Bigor, Midoc, and Lorenta gradually lost their meaning. Adrian was dying with his eyes open, as his throat was slowly being constricted by formless fear.
Ethan, who greeted Adrian as he entered the mansion, couldn’t even say hello and kept his mouth shut. He didn’t even dare to look into his lord’s eyes, where the light was fading away, suppressing his anger that had nowhere to go. He barely managed to speak as he mechanically followed Adrian toward the office.
“George is here.”
Adrian, who walked quickly without responding, kicked in and George, who was standing in front of the table, turned around and said hello.
“Did you find out something?”
“Hegel was wandering around the river all night last night. I watched as he searched the eastern area as if he was looking for something, and I found two bodies of militiamen. After that, we continued searching until morning.”
After hearing George’s report, Adrian tapped the table and was lost in thought. Information is still lacking. It’s still far from enough.
“George, can you get out of the castle?”
When Adrian asked, George answered with his remaining eye shining.
“Of course. My lord, we will scan east along the river Lorraine.”
Adrian looked at George’s face for a long time as he confidently answered. It was Midok’s outer castle that did not fall even during the war. In the face of the danger of having to climb over the castle wall to escape the blockaded castle, George nods his head with an unflattering expression.
Adrian said, concluding the complex review.
“Do it.”
“Don’t worry.”
After George comforted Adrian with a stern face and left the housekeeping room, Adrian patted the desk and was lost in thought.
Ethan spoke carefully.
“Are you the leader? Master?”
Adrian stopped tapping his desk and washed his face. It would be Homer. He would have found Damian by chance, saved him, and ended up stabbing him. There is no way Homer would have been attacked by the militia, but Hegel was there. And, he was searching the riverside. If Damian is what he was looking for, it means she fell into the water.
Winter is coming, on the cold Lorraine River.
He wanted to jump into the river right now, he wanted to run east, but he couldn’t do anything because he was not sure about this either. Damian’s face appeared vividly before my eyes the whole time. If he concentrated, he felt like he could hear a voice in his ear. Her face and her voice are wet. Adrian found it difficult to swallow his tears.
